Municipal Credit Union

Financial Services

Our members are New York City's everyday heroes. We are proud to be their credit union.

About us

Municipal Credit Union has been serving the financial needs of our members since 1916. The credit union was chartered in response to the concern of New York City Mayor, John Purroy Mitchel, who wanted city employees to have a way to save at reasonable rates and a low cost borrowing alternative to loan sharks. MCU started out with one branch in the Municipal building using handwritten ledgers. At the end of the first year, nineteen charter account holders had combined deposits of $570. Today, we have 16 branches, over 630,000 members and $4.7 billion in assets. Our corporate mission is to build lifetime quality financial relationships with each member by providing competitive products and excellent service. Equal Housing Opportunity Lender. Federally Insured by NCUA.

  • Municipal Credit Union is proud to share that we’ve achieved the Gold level of the Cigna Healthy Workforce Designation, advancing from Bronze just one year ago. This recognition reflects more than a milestone — it’s a testament to the intentional steps we’ve taken to strengthen how we support our people. At MCU, we believe a high-performing organization starts with a healthy, supported workforce. Over the past year, we’ve continued to invest in initiatives that prioritize: • Physical and mental well-being • Meaningful, accessible benefits • A culture where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered Progress like this doesn’t happen by accident — it’s driven by our #ONETEAM and a shared commitment to continuously raising the bar. And we’re just getting started. If you’re looking to join an organization that actively invests in its people and culture, explore opportunities with us: https://lnkd.in/dCZvgiXm

2025 marked the MCU Foundation's second full year of operations and brought great accomplishments.   As April is #NationalVolunteerMonth, we wanted to highlight the many volunteers from the MCU Foundation board and Municipal Credit Union who have taken time from their busy days to help our neighbors.   MCU employees' volunteering efforts supported our community partners: The Bowery Mission, Children's Aid, City Harvest, and Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley. Through 13 events, 146 employees dedicated 317 volunteer hours, driving tangible progress in health, hunger relief, and community development.   Working together, we are bringing the MCU Foundation mission to life. We look forward to another successful year in 2026 as our Foundation, board, and staff will continue to grow and expand these volunteer initiatives.   Please take a look at our full 2025 impact report below.   #CommunitySupport #GivingBack #NYC #MCU

  • Recently, Chief Lending Officer Michael Savino sat down with The Wall Street Journal to provide keen insight into the key factors to consider when choosing the right mortgage lender, as well as solid context on the importance of local versus national lenders. “It's not about finding the lowest rate,” Savino says. “It's about finding a partner who really understands your market, can explain options clearly and help you make an educated decision that supports your long-term financial well-being.” We are proud to have Mike leading our lending team and to have his expertise featured in this informative article. • To round up Women's History Month, we are highlighting Susan Ng, Manager of Fraud Investigations. Susan leads a team of skilled investigators to stay ahead of emerging fraud trends - working to ensure the protection of MCU and our members at the highest level. The biggest piece of advice she carries with her through her work in fraud and beyond: keep asking "why". "Whether you’re digging into a fraud investigation or trying to understand a process issue, don’t accept the first answer at face value. As someone on my team likes to say, trust your spidey senses — that instinct is often the first clue that something deserves a deeper look." #WomensHistoryMonth #CareerAdvice #NYC #MCU #ProfessionalDevelopment

  • Next for Women's History Month, we are highlighting Patty Pena, Senior Manager of Business Development. Patricia guides the overall strategy of the business development team, expanding community and municipal relationships while driving measurable revenue outcomes for MCU. Her advice: communication is key to success and growth! "Establishing clear expectations is essential; it lays the groundwork for an environment where open communication thrives. By fostering this atmosphere, team members feel empowered to engage in genuine two-way feedback sessions. These discussions provide valuable opportunities to exchange ideas and address challenges collaboratively." #WomensHistoryMonth #CareerAdvice #NYC #MCU #ProfessionalDevelopment

  • Continuing with Women's History Month, we are highlighting Shante Brown, Senior Manager of Consumer Lending. Shante ensures the profitable expansion of MCU's consumer loan portfolio by applying a prudent lending philosophy. Drawing from her past experiences has been invaluable to Shante's success and the mentoring efforts she provides to colleagues. "If I were to offer two key pieces of guidance to newcomers, they would be: go easy on yourself and remember that greatness can't be rushed. While many people aspire to quick success, few are prepared for the hard work it takes to truly achieve it." #WomensHistoryMonth #CareerAdvice #NYC #MCU #ProfessionalDevelopment

  • We are proud of all the work that The MCU Foundation does for our community, including the charities that it partners with. They recently presented City Harvest with a $200,000 grant to support their efforts to rescue more than 86 million pounds of food this year and deliver it to a network of soup kitchens, food pantries, and community food programs across New York City. The Foundation's expanded gift reflects its longstanding commitment to uplifting New Yorkers in need by addressing critical challenges like food insecurity.

We are proud to have presented City Harvest, one of our valued community partners, with a $200,000 grant. This donation will help to feed more than 465,000 people for a day. There to present the grant to City Harvest were MCU Foundation President & Executive Director - George Chacon, MCU Foundation Director - Cania Infante, MCU Foundation Member Representative - Kyle Markland, and MCU Foundation Director - Michael Savino. We could not be happier to expand on our partnership with City Harvest and assist them in their daily efforts to combat food insecurity in NYC. "Too many hardworking people in this city are being forced to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table. Increasing our support for City Harvest is one tangible way we can help ease that burden and invest in the well-being of the communities we serve," said George Chacon, President of the MCU Foundation.
