There's lots to lament and condemn about extractive data practices, but now it's time to build the alternative. Mozilla Data Collective is fighting for a future that is multilingual, multicultural, and multimodal. Led by the lionhearted E.M. Lewis-Jong, the team is incredible and the platform is taking off with thousands of users already. I'm so proud to serve on the board. Also, this is baby's first incubated company! (Me, I'm the baby.) Watch this space for more adventures, prototypes, and spin-outs from Mozilla Foundation as we work towards a more culture-forward vision of tech.
🚨SCOOP! So pleased *Mozilla Data Collective* launched as a UK company today. If we want a tech future that’s genuinely multilingual, multicultural and more human, we need to rethink how data is sourced and shared. MDC is a platform built around data agency, transparency and fair value exchange. If AI is going to work for everyone, the data behind it has to as well. With MDC: 🛠️ Builders get access to high-quality, ethically sourced data 📡 Organisations and communities stay in control of how their data is used 💎 Value is defined by the people - from public good to fair compensation Already, 160 organisations are sharing datasets across 300+ languages - from Afghan literature to Nigerian folktales - and are being used by thousands of public labs, journalists, researchers and tech companies, including UK startups. The UK has a real opportunity here: intentional, consent-driven, high-quality data sharing. Mozilla is building a pro-people AI ecosystem - and we really are just getting started. https://lnkd.in/eFwfnG8w Read the great Tom Bristow's Morning Intelligence for more! #startups #UKAI #AI #data
