    Stronger collaboration between allies starts with bringing together the people, ideas, and technologies that advance our shared priorities.   It was a pleasure to welcome Mr. Seiichiro Takahashi, Consul General of Japan in Boston, and members of his staff to MITRE’s Bedford campus to explore opportunities to deepen technology and innovation ties between Japan and the United States.   Our discussions and laboratory tours focused on six priority technology areas where MITRE brings deep technical expertise and leadership: artificial intelligence/physical AI, quantum, semiconductors, bio/healthcare, nuclear fusion, and space.   During the visit, Consul General Takahashi introduced the Japan-New England Nexus for Innovation (J-NEXUS), an initiative to strengthen Japan-U.S. innovation collaboration by connecting researchers, industry, startups, and institutions across New England and Japan. We look forward to continued partnership and opportunities to advance shared technology, innovation, and national security priorities.

    Understanding where today's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems perform differently in the real world is an important step toward improving tomorrow's systems. The latest report from the Partnership for Analytics Research in Traffic Safety (PARTS) uses vehicle equipment data from automakers and police-reported crash data to identify conditions that warrant further research, including older drivers, curved and winter roadways, interactions with teenage non-motorists, and more complex lane configurations.     Protecting our nation’s critical infrastructure requires collaboration across government and industry. #TeamMITRE is proud to support the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) the NIST National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) in advancing practical cybersecurity solutions that help water and wastewater utilities strengthen their resilience against evolving threats.

    Americans rely on the clean water provided by their local utilities — for their homes and businesses. Increasingly, wastewater treatment plants are using internet-connected technology to improve their operations. But with any digital transformation comes the risk that bad actors could cause harm. Recently the FBI issued a public service announcement to warn critical infrastructure asset owners and operators that the water and wastewater sector is under attack. For decades, NIST has worked with industries including financial services, healthcare and manufacturing to improve the cybersecurity of our nation’s critical infrastructure and information technology more broadly. Today NIST National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) is collaborating with industry, utilities and technology providers to find practical solutions to mitigate the serious threats faced by water and wastewater utilities.     Strengthening the warfighting industrial base requires stronger collaboration across government, industry, and our nation’s allies and partners. At MITRE’s Beyond Barriers: Acquisition on a War Footing summit, government, industry, and research leaders came together to explore practical approaches for translating the Department of War's acquisition transformation strategy into action. Building on those discussions, our latest paper offers 27 recommendations to help strengthen international acquisition, improve supply chain resilience, and accelerate the delivery of critical capabilities.     I recently wrote the article below to offer my perspective on the future of America's science and technology enterprise for the century ahead. The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy recently released Science: A New Golden Age a report calling for a more ambitious, agile, and results-oriented approach to American science and technology. It argues that the United States should reduce unnecessary bureaucracy, organize more effectively around national priorities, and move promising ideas more quickly from research into practical use. The report enters a national conversation shaped more than 80 years ago by Vannevar Bush’s Science, the Endless Frontier. Bush’s work set in motion an American science and technology ecosystem whose impact has compounded across generations.  Science: A New Golden Age should be considered in that broader tradition. It offers a current set of proposals for improving how the United States organizes, supports, and applies its scientific and engineering talent. America does not lack ideas or ingenuity. The task now is to turn that extraordinary capacity into coordinated national strength and direct it toward the challenges that will define our shared future.
