Palm Elementary celebrated World Kindness Day with a perfect example of what kindness looks like in action — community partnerships that open doors for students. Scott Nelson from Achieve Credit Union visited the school to present a $5,000 check through their Community Impact Program. This support will provide meaningful learning experiences for Palm’s kindergartners and fourth graders, including upcoming trips to the Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. A strong reminder that when schools and community partners come together, small acts of kindness grow into big opportunities for kids. #WorldKindnessDay

Service. Teamwork. Impact. Lorain City Schools is proud to share that we’ve received a Guinness World Records certificate for our part in helping set the record for the largest donation of socks in one hour! Through a friendly staff competition, our employees collected over 10,000 pairs of socks to support Walls of Love, a Northeast Ohio nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those in need. Together, volunteers across the region donated 17,715 pairs to support families and communities. We do this kind of work not for certificates and praise, but because we believe giving back is at the core of who we are. 💙

Lorain City Schools is continuing to make measurable progress that reflects our commitment to students, staff, and the community we serve. From enhanced academic pathways to robust student support systems and innovative learning experiences, we are advancing the work that matters most for our scholars and their futures. In our May communications survey, many said they were not fully aware of the improvements taking place. We want to change that by making our progress more visible. This video is one of several pieces we'll share this year, including short features that center student voice and show the impact of this progress through our students' eyes. Our administrative and central office leadership team had a little fun today as we joined schools across the district in celebrating Halloween. Costumes aside, the joy in our buildings is very real. Moments like these remind us that creating a positive school culture starts with us. When students see their leaders show up with laughter, creativity, and a sense of community, it sends a message: school is a place where you belong.

Decoding Disabilities: Putting our intervention specialists in the shoes of students with disabilities. Our intervention specialists recently participated in Decoding Disabilities, a full-day training with the Educational Service Center of Lorain County that put them into the shoes of students with different disabilities. From vision and hearing challenges to emotional and cognitive deficits, educators experienced the frustration students can feel and the supports that help them succeed. 🚲 Shoutout to the PE teachers at Palm Elementary and Stevan Dohanos Elementary in Lorain City Schools for saying "Yes" to trying something new! This school year, their students will learn key bicycle and pedestrian safety skills using this giant Safety Tarp! It measures 45 feet x 60 feet and was hand-painted right here in Ohio by Electra Tarp in Canton! Thanks to our Safe Routes to School funding and my Lorain team lead, Kiara Williams for making this hands-on education possible! At Lorain City Schools, we’re proud that our staff bring their whole selves to work, and that includes the languages, traditions and stories that make up our community. This Hispanic Heritage Month, classrooms and cafeterias across the district were filled with the sounds, flavors and colors of celebration.
