About us
Lawndale Christian Health Center (LCHC) is a community-based nonprofit organization, that was founded in 1984 by Lawndale Community Church. We are dedicated to improving the health of Lawndale and the neighboring communities on Chicago's West Side. LCHC provides quality primary care services without regard for a patient's ability to pay and serves as a community resource for eliminating health disparities. Our values are an extension of the Christian Community Development philosophy, embodied by the words: Relocation, Reconciliation, Redistribution. Our mission is to show and share the love of Jesus by promoting wellness and providing quality, affordable health care for Lawndale and the neighboring communities. We believe that wellness extends beyond the exam room and work hard to make healthy options available to our staff, neighbors and ourselves.

Our CEO, Dr. James Brooks, and Dr. Wayne Detmer are featured in this Crain's Chicago Business article on the 340B Drug Discount Program. While 340B funds come under pressure, health centers and safety-net hospitals are coming together to express the impact it has in our communities. "'The savings from 340B was a major reason that Lawndale Christian was able to buy the former Walgreens site and make plans to bring a pharmacy back to North Lawndale, an extreme drug store desert,' James Brooks, CEO of Lawndale Christian Health Center, said in an interview with Crain's. 'Whatever savings we receive from the program, the truth is it goes right back into the community,' Brooks said. 'Health care begins with primary care and that's preventative care, and through 340B, we're allowed to provide that care for everyone.'" Read more: https://lnkd.in/giYTCRHa
