What a remarkable evening! We had the privilege of hosting an exclusive roundtable with Mr. Keishi Hotsuki, Vice Chairman, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group; Board Member, SMBC Nikko Securities; Board Member, Japan Society, and our esteemed Honorary Mentor, for our U.S.-Japan Mentoring Program participants. On May 12th, Japan Society launched the inaugural event of the Japan Society Innovation Series in partnership with Remarkable Ventures, bringing together leaders from across the U.S.-Japan innovation ecosystem for an evening of discussion, collaboration, and networking. The evening featured opening remarks from Douglas Peterson (Vice Chair, Board of Directors, Japan Society) and Jonathan Axelrod (Co-Founder and Managing Partner, ERA and Remarkable Ventures), followed by a panel discussion moderated by Murat Aktihanoglu (Co-Founder and Managing Partner, ERA and Remarkable Ventures). Distinguished panelists included Eiko Ooka (SMBC Fin Atlas Beyond Fund), Hernan F. (Marubeni Power), Christian Sassmann (Suntory Holdings Limited), Tyler S. (Presidio Ventures/Sumitomo Corporation), Ryo Tateishi (Mitsubishi Corporation Americas), Kenji Togasaki (IINO LINES), Kazutoshi Ukon (Mitsubishi Electric Corporation), and Jeff Chen (Asahi Kasei Ventures). The highlight of the evening was the startup pitch session, where U.S. startups presented directly to Japanese corporate venture leaders and investors. These exchanges underscored the importance of creating spaces where innovative ideas, strategic investment, and jcross-border partnerships can come together in meaningful ways. A huge milestone at Japan Society! We hosted our largest young audience ever: 3,500 school children. 🏫✨ Expanding access to the arts is a core part of our mission. Here is a look at our recent educational impact: 🔹 80% of visiting students come from underserved communities, thanks to our initiative providing free access for Title I schools. 🔹 Over 200 educators were served in our 2025 Teachers Program, receiving vital resources to teach about Japan in their classrooms. We couldn't do this without our incredible community. Every workshop and cultural exchange is powered by the generosity of our supporters.
