Today, International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember the people we have lost to overdose, the families and communities carrying that loss, and the people who have survived. We also recognize the peers, staff, clinicians, outreach workers, case managers, and other frontline professionals who help people who use drugs access and remain connected to dignified care. At HealthRIGHT 360, this work is part of what we do every day. Overdose prevention includes the work of building relationships and making healthcare easier to reach through mutual aid, harm reduction, street medicine, sobering and respite, primary care, substance use disorder treatment, medications for opioid use disorder, contingency management, peer support, housing, and connections to the broader services people need. We know overdose is preventable, and we know what works, but we cannot treat awareness as the endpoint. We need to keep expanding access to low-barrier, evidence-based care. We need public health messaging grounded in fact rather than stigma and fear. We need to listen to people who use drugs and center their experiences in the policies and programs designed to serve them. And we need to continue investing in the people who provide this lifesaving care. International Overdose Awareness Day is a day to remember, but it is also a day to act. CAADPE member HealthRIGHT 360 is on the stage today -- and they came ready. President and CEO Vitka Eisen, MSW, EdD (also CAADPE's Board Vice President), Managing Director of Residential and Treatment Access MaryAnn Swift, and Deputy Chief Behavioral Health Officer April Torres are presenting "Opening the Door Wider: Rethinking Substance Use Disorder Access and Retention." Low-barrier access. Continuity through stabilization. Retention after recurrence of use. The shirt says it plainly. The work says it louder. #DHCS20YearsSUDConf #DHCS2026SUDConf #SUDTreatment #BehavioralHealth #CAADPE #HealthRIGHT360

HealthRIGHT 360 staff and community volunteers came together on July 11 for San Francisco’s One City Day, taking on two projects across our programs. At our Integrated Care Center, 25 volunteers assembled 480 hygiene kits, including 82 menstrual care kits, and added personal handwritten notes of encouragement to each kit. At our residential step-down program on Treasure Island, 18 volunteers helped transform an outdoor space into a community garden, filling nine raised garden beds and 30 planters with more than 100 flowers, herbs, and other local plants. Thank you to the volunteers, staff, community partners, and donors who contributed their time and resources to make these projects possible. We appreciate everyone who spent part of their Saturday helping create spaces and resources that support the people and communities we serve. HealthRIGHT 360 celebrated the rededication of our remodeled Access and Engagement Center, marking an important step forward in expanding access to substance use disorder treatment and healthcare services for San Franciscans. We were honored to welcome Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, program alum Katie McFarlin, Dr. David Smith, Director of the San Francisco Department of Public Health Dan Tsai, Supervisor Matt Dorsey’s Legislative Aide Mahanaz Ebadi, community partners, staff, and supporters to celebrate this milestone and recognize the collaboration that made this project possible. When people arrive at our Access and Engagement Center, often after months or years of uncertainty, those first moments matter. A welcoming and accessible entry point can shape whether someone feels respected and ready to take the next step toward recovery. Informed by staff feedback and the experiences of the people we serve, the expanded fourth-floor space creates a more client-centered entry point while strengthening our ability to connect people to withdrawal management and treatment. We are grateful to Speaker Emerita Pelosi, our public and community partners, philanthropic supporters, and everyone who helped bring this project to life. Most importantly, we are grateful to our dedicated staff, who meet people at critical moments in their lives with compassion, dignity, and respect. Photos by Adriana Oyarzun Photography

Thank you to Assemblymember Ash Kalra and the 25th Assembly District team for visiting HealthRIGHT 360's Asian American Recovery Services facility in San José to learn more about the work we do to support the community. We had a great conversation about behavioral health and care for people who use drugs, including the success of California's Recovery Incentives Program for people with stimulant use disorder. We appreciate Assemblymember Kalra's longstanding partnership with HealthRIGHT 360 and AARS, dating back to his time as a San José City Councilmember and Deputy Public Defender, and his continued commitment to advancing policies that expand access to healthcare and treatment across California. #HealthRIGHT360 #AsianAmericanRecoveryServices #SantaClaraCounty #CAStateAssembly #behavioralhealth #expandingaccess #communitycare

A heartfelt thank you to Life Science Cares Bay Area for organizing the event and the compassionate employees at Terns Pharmaceuticals for generously donating their time, purchasing the backpacks and school supplies, and making a meaningful difference in our community. HealthRIGHT 360's African American Healing Center joined the Rafiki Coalition for Health and Wellness, HollyRock All-Stars, and more community partners for the Men's Wellness Bike Ride. Following the free ride around San Francisco, participants gathered for lunch with local organizations offering health information and resources.
