After a competitive selection process, five companies have been selected to join gBETA Huntsville, our free seven-week pre-accelerator program supporting early-stage founders as they gain traction, sharpen strategy, and prepare for growth. This spring’s cohort includes: • Argonath, Inc. – Automatically generates authorization evidence from software execution, eliminating manual documentation and enabling organizations to deploy secure software at mission speed. • PaperPlay – A payments and tax-reporting platform helping live music venues instantly pay artists and automate 1099 reporting. • Sustain360°™ – AI-powered decision intelligence helping manufacturers and defense contractors identify supply chain vulnerabilities, critical minerals exposure, and climate risks. • The ARAH Company – Wearable, hands-free lighting systems built for precision professionals including beauty artists, tattoo artists, and medical practitioners. • Watts.ai – AI agents and engineering tools helping government and regulated organizations automate technical workflows and adopt AI responsibly. 🌊 ⚡Building from research to real-world traction isn’t a straight line and Lance McMullan knows that firsthand. As Founder & CEO of Sitkana, a Juneau-based company building hydrokinetic devices that generate electricity from tidal currents, Lance entered gBETA #Alaska with an early prototype and a plan to sell power from #tidalcurrents. Through customer discovery and hands-on mentorship, he re-evaluated the business, making a critical pivot: shifting to leasing the equipment instead of selling the power. Lance credits the program with helping him “zoom out” by moving beyond the product and research to think holistically about the business, refine communication with stakeholders, and build the discipline needed to navigate commercialization. Today, Sitkana has secured dilutive and non-dilutive funding, developed multiple full-scale prototypes, and is engaging its first customer with their newest prototype. Lance’s advice to fellow researchers? 🌊 Be open to change if something isn’t working.  🌊 Start early with non-dilutive funding.  🌊 And don’t go it alone; Strategic partnerships can accelerate both credibility and progress. This is the power of pairing research with the right mentorship, network, and commercialization roadmap.
