Genomic sequencing can reduce healthcare costs by up to $80,000 per child per year for children with epilepsy while also improving how care is delivered. Fast Company just published an article from GeneDx Chief Medical Officer Dr. Linda Genen, MD, MPH discussing one of healthcare’s biggest challenges: patients, especially children with neurological conditions, who often spend years searching for a diagnosis despite the availability of advanced genomic sequencing—all while driving up healthcare costs. The article explores how using genomic testing earlier in the diagnostic journey can shorten the diagnostic odyssey, improve patient care, and significantly reduce overall healthcare costs—particularly by decreasing hospitalizations and emergency care while enabling more targeted treatment. As she writes, “When a technology improves care and reduces costs at the same time, the real question is not whether we can use it, but rather why it is not used broadly as standard of care.” Read the full article → https://lnkd.in/gkieYPJD

April is Autism Acceptance Month. Autism can be more complex than a single clinical diagnosis: • 74% of individuals with ASD have at least one co-occurring condition • Up to 37% of individuals with Autism and additional clinical features have an underlying genetic cause 90% of patients received negative results from at least one prior genetic test before exome testing. Exome sequencing can help uncover the genetic cause behind autism, helping providers guide care, identify co-occurring conditions, and support families with clearer next steps. As Women’s History Month comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the women who are shaping the future of genetic health here at GeneDx and beyond. We’re proud to be a company where 70% of our workforce are women, and where women are represented in leadership at the executive level. Every day, our teams are helping move the dial on what’s possible in genomics, working toward a future where answers come faster, care is more connected, and more people can live their healthiest lives. Here’s to the women helping to make that future possible. And to the next generation who will take it even further. 🚀

Big conversations are happening about the future of healthcare, and genomics is central to that future. Our CEO Katherine Stueland joined leaders at the Rock Health CEO Digital Summit, where healthcare leaders come together to have honest conversations about where healthcare is going and how we get there. She spoke on the panel “From Idea to Enduring” alongside Megan Zweig (Rock Health Advisory), Michael Esquivel (Fenwick & West), and Zach Hochstetler (American Medical Association), discussing what it takes to build, scale, and sustain innovation in healthcare. We’re proud to be part of the conversations shaping what healthcare looks like next.

Up to 1 in 3 cerebral palsy cases may have a genetic cause. Many patients with cerebral palsy also have additional neurodevelopmental or medical conditions. In fact: • ~50% also have intellectual disability • ~30% also have epilepsy • ~9% also have autism spectrum disorder These overlapping features may suggest an underlying genetic condition for some patients. On National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day, it’s a reminder that earlier genetic answers can help clarify diagnosis, guide care, and inform recurrence risk for families. At GeneDx, we are committed to empowering everyone to live their healthiest life through genomics. Learn more about testing options → https://genedx.co/4tanZgV

Exome and genome sequencing are transforming healthcare, but technology alone isn’t enough. Access, data, and reimbursement all play a role in whether patients get answers quickly. In the latest Podnosis podcast from Fierce Healthcare, GeneDx CEO Katherine Stueland and host Anastassia Gliadkovskaya discuss: • Expanding access to genomic testing • The power of the GeneDx Infinity™ dataset • The evolving reimbursement landscape • Where genomic medicine is heading next The future of health will be built on genomic insights—but only if we make them accessible, actionable, and connected.
