    In partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City, EXL delivered Shark Tank, style Professional Opportunity Days, bringing together college scholars and EXL volunteers. Through virtual and in-person engagements, students worked with mentors to develop and refine ideas, strengthen critical thinking, and build confidence in communication. The experience culminated in students presenting their ideas before senior leaders serving as “Sharks” and receiving real-time feedback and exposure to a corporate environment.     At EXL’s recent New York Retail Industry roundtable, one thing became clearer: scaling AI is not a technology problem - it’s a strategy and operating model shift anchored in value creation. Key takeaways from the discussion: ✅ Agentic AI is not a plug-in. It must be embedded into core workflows, not layered on as an experiment. ✅ Data readiness is shifting from pipelines to context. Leaders are building semantic layers, context graphs, and scenario-aware models so AI understands the business, not just the data. ✅ Talent and execution remain the bottleneck. Strategy without operational muscle does not scale. ✅ Architectural choices matter. Hybrid and neuro-symbolic designs that combine LLMs with rules and domain logic are proving more reliable and cost-effective. ✅ Trust is by design. Guardrails, evaluation, and governance must be built in from the start. Three powerful statements that emerged from the discussion: “AI is not a feature you deploy; it is a capability you build. And like every capability, it compounds.” “Most AI initiatives will fail not because the technology is immature, but because organizations are not redesigned to use it.” “As AI moves from experimentation to differentiation, speed to outcome becomes the only metric that matters.” We also discussed where this is already real in retail, with three use cases gaining traction: • Agentic commerce where AI agents manage discovery, conversion, and post-purchase journeys end-to-end • Dynamic pricing at scale across millions of SKUs, continuously optimizing for demand, margin, and competition • Autonomous supply chains that predict demand shifts, rebalance inventory, and adapt fulfillment in real time Appreciate the candid perspectives and energy from everyone in the room.
