Environmental contamination does not always follow predictable pathways, especially in historic urban settings. At a former dry cleaner site in downtown Brazil, Indiana, EnviroForensics helped guide a complex project through the Indiana Department of Environmental Management Voluntary Remediation Program to achieve regulatory closure. The site presented several challenges, including: • Historic fill materials creating atypical groundwater behavior • Contaminant migration through a deteriorated sewer lateral • Vapor intrusion concerns in neighboring commercial buildings • Multiple impacted media requiring coordinated investigation and remediation Through a phased and adaptive remediation approach, along with close coordination with IDEM and neighboring property owners, our team helped secure approval of a Certificate of Completion and Covenant Not-To-Sue. The property has since been sold, and the building has been incorporated into the operations of a neighboring restaurant, allowing the site to remain in productive commercial use. Learn how this complex site was investigated, remediated, and brought to IDEM closure. https://lnkd.in/gHF5fERk #EnvironmentalConsulting #SiteRemediation #VaporIntrusion #BrownfieldRedevelopment

Every Indiana community has them: the empty lot, the boarded-up building, the old factory or dry cleaner that’s sat untouched for years. These Brownfields may look like liabilities, but they’re actually one of the greatest opportunities for economic growth, housing, and revitalization in our state. At this year’s AIM Ideas Summit, EnviroForensics CEO Stephen Henshaw, LPG, shared how Indiana municipalities can turn these contaminated and tax-delinquent sites into productive community assets. Our latest blog post outlines the roadmap: ✅ Identifying viable sites ✅ Funding environmental cleanup through insurance and legal tools ✅ Limiting liability ✅ Preparing for redevelopment Read the full article to see how cities like Wabash, Lebanon, Mishawaka, and Indianapolis are already reclaiming what’s been left behind. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gryqavKy #AIMIdeasSummit #Brownfields #CommunityRevitalization #Indiana #EnvironmentalLeadership #EconomicDevelopment

Federal environmental regulations may shift, but for businesses that use solvents or handle hazardous waste, the risks are long-term, especially when it comes to legacy contamination and property value. EnviroForensics’ VP Matthew Bono advises that even in a more relaxed regulatory climate, known or suspected contamination can impact refinancing, redevelopment, and future sales. Forward-thinking operators are using this window to assess environmental exposure, understand local and state requirements, and explore historical insurance coverage that could help offset cleanup costs. https://lnkd.in/e4ZJBaXe

The Wisconsin Supreme Court just affirmed the DNR’s authority to enforce environmental cleanup requirements without going through a formal rulemaking process. This has serious implications for site owners, municipalities, and anyone dealing with legacy contamination. We break down what this ruling really means—from the evolving role of PFAS enforcement to how historical insurance reconstruction can help address emerging liabilities. https://lnkd.in/gNJUSP59

Over the past few weeks, the EPA has announced major updates to its PFAS Action Plan—introducing stricter guidelines for industry discharges, extending drinking water compliance deadlines, and expanding support for impacted communities. While the new direction shows promise in holding polluters accountable and building capacity for long-term solutions, concerns remain around regulatory rollbacks and delayed protections for GenX and PFBS. In our latest blog post, we break down: • Key changes to the 2019 PFAS Action Plan • What drinking water systems need to know about the new compliance timeline • The EPA’s evolving stance on enforcement and technical assistance • Why scientific justification still matters in regulatory decisions. https://lnkd.in/gQ5rhtRX
