So as promised the other day, The Butz Family of Companies started doing the Lidar ground scans on the Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School Blackbox theatre jobsite. In the video below, we are showing you the power of an iPad in the hands of a Jobsite Superintendent in the field! Utilizing the DroneDeploy software that covers the Aerial data and also the Ground data capturing all compiled into one Data collection point! Folks, it doesn't get any easier than this, PERIOD! We lost all navigation the moment we got off the highway. No cell service. No GPS. Three vehicles — a pickup, two enclosed trailers, and a media van. We were trying to find our church partner in the middle of a disaster zone. Every road we turned down had a downed power line or a fallen tree. Information we couldn’t get in real time. I needed the most direct, safest route to our destination. And I needed it fast. That’s when it hit me — what if I could see ahead? After that deployment I made a decision. I was going to solve this problem the right way. I studied. I tested. I earned my FAA Part 107 commercial drone license. Then I bought my own drone. In 2021, on our return deployment to Lake Charles, Louisiana — I put it to work. Using a DJI Mavic 2 Pro and DroneDeploy I mapped flooded neighborhoods from the air — identifying areas of greatest need, routing volunteers and materials efficiently, and sending real time aerial data directly to the local emergency operations center and back home to Virginia Beach. It completely changed our deployments. Added an entirely new dataset. Gave our ground team a perspective they never had before — a view from above the chaos.
