Life Without Diet Related Disease

About us

With more than 165 years of healthcare experience, Dohmen has found a way to combine the rigor of business with the heart of philanthropy. After exiting the life sciences in 2018, Dohmen’s shareholders donated their shares, converting Dohmen from a multi-generational family-owned business to an organization wholly owned by a private foundation. The Dohmen Company Foundation focuses on creating a social return in pursuit of its vision of life without diet-related disease. The Dohmen Impact Investment Fund will invest $60 million over the next five-ten years to accelerate the growth and impact of for-profit social businesses with proven food solutions that improve human health. Our vision: Life Without Diet-Related Disease As a private foundation, the Dohmen Company Foundation advances its vision via three unique strategies: 1. Broadening access to healthful food via our grant process 2. Building awareness of food as the most effective health intervention via communications 3. Buoying for profit food solutions using our impact investment fund

Updates

  • Today marks a meaningful step forward in advancing Food Is Medicine. For too long, medically tailored meals have demonstrated strong outcomes but have not yet been fully integrated into the healthcare system. The MTM Sustainability Blueprint – released today – helps bridge that gap, outlining what’s needed to move from promising pilots to sustainable, system-level change. We're proud to support this work alongside Food is Medicine Coalition and partners. #FoodIsMedicine #FIM #HealthcareTransformation

Announcing the Medically Tailored Meal (MTM) Sustainability Blueprint! Today, FIMC, in partnership with the Harvard Law School Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation (CHLPI) and with support from the Dohmen Company Foundation, announces the release of the MTM Sustainability Blueprint, a first-of-its-kind framework designed to support the integration of medically tailored meals into the broader healthcare ecosystem. This Blueprint lays the groundwork for how #MTMs can align with existing Medicaid quality standards and healthcare structures— establishing guardrails for program design that promote quality, consistency, equity, and long-term sustainability. This is a major step forward in ensuring that MTMs, a proven, lifesaving intervention, can become a sustainable part of healthcare nationwide. We’re grateful to the many stakeholders, advocates, and partners who contributed their expertise to this effort. Read the full Blueprint here: https://lnkd.in/eGue5Yun #foodismedicine

  • We’re proud to partner with Eat Real Certified in a $3 million, three-year investment to improve the health of children nationwide.    At the Dohmen Company Foundation, we believe public schools represent one of the most powerful intervention points to prevent diet-related disease. School meals shape lifelong habits. And for millions of children, they provide the majority of daily nutrition.    Eat Real has demonstrated that measurable, scalable improvements in school food are possible. Through this partnership, we’ll expand their K-12 certification program and launch research connecting improved diet quality to outcomes in student behavior, mental health, and metabolic health.    We’re honored to work alongside a team committed to transforming children’s health from the inside out.

Today, we’re so proud to share that Eat Real has received a $3 million, three-year investment from Dohmen Company Foundation to transform K-12 school food nationwide. This is the largest investment in our history — and it comes at a pivotal moment. 30 million children rely on school meals for half of their daily calories. For some, it’s all of them. By making each of these meals more nutritious and delicious, we can fight the rise in ultra-processed food-related illnesses, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and fatty liver disease in kids. Together with Dohmen Company Foundation, a private foundation guided by a vision of life without diet-related disease, we will: • Expand Eat Real’s data-driven K-12 certification program nationwide • Reach an additional 1 million students • Launch new research examining how improved school nutrition impacts behavior, mental health, and metabolic health • Deepen our work in high-need states and large districts We share a bold goal: to eradicate diet-related disease — and we believe America’s public schools are the most powerful place to start. This partnership is about more than food. It’s about measurable change in children’s health, well-being, and futures. We’re deeply grateful to Rachel Roller and the Dohmen team for their leadership and belief in what’s possible! Read more: https://lnkd.in/gzePJ-an

  • We’re pleased to share our 2025 Impact Report, capturing the growing, nationwide impact of our Food Is Medicine work. In 2025, our efforts reached more than 712,800 people and supported food education for over 462,100 schoolchildren. Since 2019, Foundation-supported efforts have contributed to 33.7 million nutritious meals served, with our impact spanning all 50 states and Washington, D.C. The report highlights how our three strategic pillars — Research and Public Awareness, Strategic Grantmaking, and Impact Investing — are scaling Food Is Medicine solutions nationwide and bringing us closer to our vision: life without diet-related disease. This work is possible because of strong partnerships, shared commitment, and a belief that addressing the root causes of disease — starting with food — can create lasting change.
