  • From clinical psychologist to training AI models. Here’s how it happened. Another story from our #JourneyToHire series. Pablo Antonio Cifuentes Gramajo, a clinical psychologist with a PhD in psychotherapy, never planned to work in AI. But today, he’s helping train mental health AI models with the support of Crossing Hurdles. Here’s what his journey looked like: • Got interviewed by AI for the first time and found it surprisingly personalized • The process was fast, structured, and easy to follow • Worked on training AI using his core expertise in psychology • Managed tasks with flexible timelines and clear communication • Received secure payments after client feedback But the biggest lesson? Don’t apply randomly. Apply where your skills actually fit. Pablo didn’t switch fields. He simply applied his existing knowledge in a new way. That’s where the real opportunity lies. • Not every career move needs to make sense at first. Another story from our #JourneyToHire series! Congratulations to Amarachi Peggy Kalu who is now working as an AI trainer and data annotator across multiple projects, navigating flexible, short-term engagements in a completely new way of working. She came across the opportunity through LinkedIn, and what followed was a process that looked very different from traditional hiring interviews with an ai agent, skill-based tests, and quick turnarounds. From there, things moved fast. Some projects lasted a day, others stretched across weeks, all with tight timelines and intense work, but with that came consistency in payments and clear communication throughout. One thing she pointed out stood out: Ai-led interviews helped her feel more at ease, removing pressure and bias, and making it easier to just focus on doing the work well. Her advice? Build your resume in a way that reflects everything you’ve done, you never know what might click. Moreover, stay active on LinkedIn, because visibility matters more than you think. This journey shows that opportunities today don’t always look traditional and being open to new formats can open completely different doors. What's a skill you’ve built that could open new doors for you? Stay tuned for more stories from #JourneyToHire 🚀

  • Not every hiring process needs to be long, complicated, or unclear. Another story from our #JourneyToHire series! Congratulations to Pramana Chattopadhyay, who is now working as a Bengali AI Trainer, stepping into a new way of working in the AI space. After applying, the process began with a short interview with an AI agent. Midway through, the conversation shifted to Bengali, testing practical language ability in real time. A couple of days later, the next step followed: a skill-based assignment. The task involved working with damaged audio, cleaning it and setting it to the required loudness and peak levels. A hands-on evaluation, focused purely on ability. Within about a week, the offer came through. Contracts were signed, formalities completed, and work began soon after. What stood out the most to her was how easy and smooth the entire process felt, from application to onboarding. This journey reflects how hiring today is becoming more skill-focused, efficient, and accessible. What part of a hiring process matters most to you as a candidate? • What recruiters often look for vs what many candidates assume After reviewing thousands of profiles and interviews at Crossing Hurdles, one thing is very clear: A lot of candidates are trying to impress… while recruiters are just trying to understand you quickly. Here’s where things usually get lost 👇 1. Experience Candidates: “Any experience should count” Recruiters: Look for relevant experience or transferable skills (skills you’ve built in previous roles, even in completely different domains, that still add value in this role) Example: A teacher moving into corporate training can highlight presentation, curriculum design, and audience engagement. 2. Work descriptions Candidates: list what they were responsible for Recruiters: look for what actually changed because of you Example: “Handled social media” → “Planned and scheduled 20+ posts/month, improving engagement by 40%” 3. Career gaps / transitions Candidates: worry that gaps or career switches will be seen negatively Recruiters: try to understand the reason behind them and what you did during that time Example: “Career break” → raises questions “Took 6 months off to upskill in data analytics and completed 3 hands-on projects” → shows intent and direction If your profile doesn’t clearly show where you fit, you lose attention. Because recruiters are simply asking: Does this person fit in this role? What’s one thing you’ve changed that made your profile easier to understand?
