🔥 WACO FIRE: Answering the Call Waco firefighters had a busy week protecting our community! A couple of the calls our crews responded to included a house fire in Waco, where they rescued numerous pets from the home. One cat even received oxygen at the scene. Across town, additional Waco Fire personnel were called to battle a brush fire. Thank you to our Waco Fire crews for your dedication to keeping our community safe, two-legged and four-legged residents alike! 🐾🚒

City Hall Selfie Day! City Hall Selfie Day is an annual celebration of public service and the people who make local government work. Employees are encouraged to take a picture in front of City Hall and local government buildings. With employees serving Waco from so many locations, one building could never capture the full picture of our organization. We encouraged our team members to share selfies from the spaces where they work and serve each day. These faces represent the dedication, talent, and care that keep Waco moving. ⚠️ Heads Up: Major Traffic Impact in Waco As part of the My35 Waco South construction project, TxDOT and its contractor will begin removing the South Valley Mills Drive direct connect to northbound I-35 at midnight on Friday, Aug. 7. The work is expected to take approximately 24 hours. This removal marks a major project milestone and prepares the area for construction of the future Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). 🚧 24-hour closures include: • I-35 main lanes between New Road and 12th Street • Crossings at 17th and 18th Streets • Valley Mills Drive • Irving Lee Street/Primrose Drive The Irving Lee Street/Primrose Drive underpass will remain closed through Aug. 22 for drainage and utility work. Meet Waco’s New Assistant City Manager Join us in welcoming David Olson, PE, as the City of Waco’s new Assistant City Manager, beginning August 31. David brings more than 20 years of experience in engineering, infrastructure and municipal leadership. Most recently, he served as Assistant City Manager for the City of Temple, where he helped lead major infrastructure, utility, transportation, economic development and capital improvement initiatives. In Waco, David will oversee Infrastructure Services, Public Works, Customer Engagement and Development Services. His technical expertise, collaborative leadership style and commitment to public service will help support Waco’s continued growth. Welcome to Waco, David! 🎉

Waco Police Department Gives Back 🎒 The Waco Police Department held its annual Back to School Bash last Saturday, providing 1,500 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to local students. Children also received free haircuts, Kona Ice, and other resources to help students start the school year feeling prepared and confident. This event is one of the many ways Waco PD shows its love for our community. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success! 💙
