Please join us in congratulating the Marion Fire Department on achieving Accredited Agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) yesterday. CFAI is dedicated to assisting the fire and emergency service agencies throughout the world in achieving excellence through self-assessment and accreditation to provide continuous quality improvement and enhance service delivery for their communities. “This achievement is an endorsement of our City’s commitment to always reach higher and provide the best quality of service to our community,” said Marion Mayor Nick AbouAssaly. “I applaud the agency for embracing this process and leading the way to excellence.” The department is one of more than 300 agencies to achieve Internationally Accredited Agency status with the CFAI and the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc. During Marion's 32nd annual State of the City Address, Mayor Nick AbouAssaly highlighted the progress and forward-looking initiatives that make Marion a place where people and businesses thrive. “Marion’s progress isn’t about building just to build; or growth for its own sake,” said AbouAssaly. “It’s defined by how Team Marion generates momentum and uses that momentum to create real value for people and expand the positive ways they can experience life in our community.” A perfect example of this is the recently completed Central Plaza in City Square Park.

It's City budget time! Through careful planning and ongoing cost-containment efforts, the City of Marion’s proposed property tax rate for FY 27 would decrease from $14.89684 to $14.54508 per $1,000 of taxable value – representing a reduction of approximately $0.35. The Marion City Council will hold the first of two public hearings regarding the maximum property tax rate during a special meeting on March 24, 2026, at 4 p.m. at Marion City Hall (1225 6th Avenue, Marion). As required by recent legislation, Linn County will be mailing each property owner an individual statement regarding the proposed levies (including City, School, County, etc.) and the combined property tax rate being proposed. While "investigating," Kid Mayor Dash discovers the awesome events, beautiful parks, miles of trails and seasonal celebrations that set Marion apart. He also encounters the hardworking people who keep the city running and the neighbors who make it feel like home.
