  • The City of Decatur Fire Department is currently hiring firefighters! Join our team of skilled and dedicated firefighters for the opportunity to serve the Decatur community while upholding the department’s high standards for safety and public service.  City of Decatur firefighters receive a $3,000 signing incentive, along with our full benefits package that includes pension, supplemental retirement, paid leave, and access to a range of employee support programs.  Our firefighters have the opportunity to earn respected individual and specialized designations, and the City actively supports those efforts through paid training and time off for professional development. Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a minimum age of 18, and candidates must be either EMT-, firefighter-certified, or both. If you have one certification but not the other, the City is willing to sponsor whatever certification you're missing while paying you during your training. Our team plays a key role in community risk reduction through inspections, building codes, and prevention efforts that keep residents safe. As a result of our intentional efforts, we may not respond to a high volume of fires, but our EMS calls save lives every day. Decatur's Fire Department also holds an impressive ISO Class 2 fire protection rating. This role goes beyond emergency response. You’ll make a meaningful impact by connecting directly with the community through hands-on education and engaging City activities.  Decatur firefighters receive a starting salary ranging from $50,856 to $53,435 with opportunities for periodic 2.5% step increases. If you have your EMT-A and firefighter certification, you may be eligible to be boosted to the next pay level. Ready to make a difference? Apply now at decaturga.com/jobs .
