At 34, Cami Tuttle, a wife, mother of three and former nurse, knew the signs of a stroke, but never thought it would happen to her. Her first symptoms came in the middle of the night and quickly resolved. Trusting her instincts, Cami contacted her primary care physician at CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic in San Marcos, Dr. Mariel Bagley. Dr. Bagley identified subtle warning signs and immediately sent her to the emergency room, where teams confirmed she had a stroke, but there were still questions. After other symptoms arose, Cami was transferred to our Westover Hills facility, where specialists used advanced imaging to review her scans before she arrived, allowing the neurology team to prepare for immediate treatment. She was diagnosed with a hemorrhagic stroke caused by a microaneurysm and underwent a successful procedure. From emergency care to advanced neurologic treatment, every step of Cami’s journey across CHRISTUS facilities was connected through coordinated, compassionate care.

May was EXTRA snuggly in our NICU and Mother-Baby Unit as we celebrated our two-week Kangaroo-care-a-thon! Kangaroo care is a special method of holding a baby skin-to-skin, similar to how kangaroos hold their young in a pouch! For moms, it promotes bonding, boosts breast milk production, reduces anxiety, and enhances their ability to understand their baby's cues. Dads also experience bonding benefits, stress relief, and a sense of protectiveness. In total, our facilities logged over thousands of minutes of Skin-to-Skin during the two-week celebration!

We were honored to support one of our newest CHRISTUS Health communities by serving alongside the Mt. Pleasant Rodeo Association at their community rodeo. Events like these are a meaningful reminder of our commitment to caring for the communities we serve, both inside and outside the hospital walls. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of this tradition and help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all who attended. A special thank you to our dedicated CHRISTUS EMS Associates and athletic trainers whose compassion, professionalism, and service make a difference every day.

In honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we are celebrating saints like Saint Paul Miki, the Patron Saint of Japan and one of the first native Japanese Christians whose faith endured even in the face of persecution. As a Jesuit seminarian and gifted preacher, Paul Miki boldly shared the Gospel at a time when Christianity was outlawed in Japan. In 1597, he and 25 companions were arrested and crucified for their faith. From the cross, Paul continued to preach, stating just before his death “After Christ’s example, I forgive my persecutors. I do not hate them. I ask God to have pity on all, and I hope my blood will fall on my fellow men as a fruitful rain.” His courage and unwavering trust in God helped sustain the Catholic faith in Japan for generations. St. Paul Miki reminds us that even in the most difficult moments, faith, mercy and hope can leave a lasting impact.

We are proud to announce that CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances is the first facility in the nation to use the V2 Swoop Portable MRI inside an operating room! The groundbreaking procedure was performed by Chief of Neurosurgery Dr. Todd Patrick, marking a significant milestone in surgical precision and patient-centered care. By bringing advanced imaging directly into the operating room, the Swoop system allows surgeons to capture real-time images during procedures, improving decision-making, reducing the need for repeat imaging and enhancing overall surgical outcomes.

In honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we are celebrating saints like Saint Magdalene of Nagasaki. Born near Nagasaki, Japan, Magdalene endured the loss of her family to martyrdom, yet her faith only deepened. Magdalene taught catechism, sought alms for the poor, visited the sick and encouraged fellow Christians during intense persecution. After several spiritual leaders were martyred, she continued their mission and eventually surrendered herself to authorities in 1634 to strengthen the courage of others. She endured torture for 13 days before her martyrdom. Canonized in 1987, Saint Magdalene remains a powerful witness of courage, solidarity and unwavering love for Christ.

Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month holds special meaning across our health system. For Auxillia Anthony, revenue cycle optimization instructor, it's a time to reflect on how her background has inspired her to become a villager for her team. "In Indian culture, community means everything and supporting your peers is taken to the highest regard. Having those ideals instilled in me has helped me to elevate my team through collaborative efforts," Auxillia shares. "I bring a people-first perspective, thinking of what my students' needs are when I design instructional content and meet them where they are."
