About us

Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco is a community-based organization, offering youth ages 6-18 high-quality programs in first-class facilities. BGCSF’s skilled and caring staff expands a child’s world through inspiration, skill building, positive adult and peer relationships, and unique experiences both at the Club and outside the Club, while making every child feel heard, understood, valued, and loved. At BGCSF, we pride ourselves on being a core institution in the San Francisco community, with more than a century of youth development experience and a proven track record of helping young people become successful adults. All staff have access to cutting-edge Learning and Development training opportunities to strengthen professional skills and create growth opportunities within the organization. We focus on youth development, leadership, and management training. Many members of our management team got their start in direct service positions or as Club kids themselves. BGCSF places an emphasis on growing our team through those who know our organization best. Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

  • We are deeply grateful to Gap Foundation for honoring Doris's legacy through this renewed and expanded commitment to the Doris Fisher Imagine Scholarship Fund! This investment will continue opening doors for young people as they pursue higher education.

I've been reflecting on the celebration of Doris Fisher's life and legacy, and one thought keeps coming back: Doris believed deeply in creating opportunities for others. Her enduring spirit was evident throughout the event, as our employees wore white shirts —a staple she adored—with her iconic station wagon on display. Doris often said that Gap is "a store with a heart." She understood that talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn't always, and she was passionate about helping young people see what's possible for their futures. It's why I'm so proud that Gap Foundation has renewed and expanded its commitment to the Doris Fisher Imagine Scholarship Fund in support of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco with a new pledge of at least $500,000 over the next five years. Since 2021, the scholarship fund has helped open educational pathways for students whose journeys have taken them to UC Berkeley, Stanford University, The Johns Hopkins University, San Francisco State University, City College of San Francisco, and beyond — a reflection of Doris's belief that there is no single path to success, and that every dream deserves a chance. And with our San Francisco headquarters now illuminated in blue each evening, that legacy will continue to shine for generations to come. Deep appreciation for our Communications team, who brought the celebration to life so brilliantly.

  • Thank you to 2K Foundations for investing in our youth and community with the renovation of the basketball court at our Excelsior Clubhouse! We were excited to celebrate alongside Will Richard, Festus Ezeli, Ronnie Singh (Ronnie2K), and community members as our youth got the chance to experience the new court for the very first time. Partnerships like this help create opportunities for young people across San Francisco, and we’re grateful to 2K Foundations for helping make this space possible for the hundreds of youth who will use it for years to come.

A new court. A stronger community. 🏀💙 Last week, 2K Foundations unveiled a fully refurbished basketball court at the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco's Excelsior Clubhouse, revitalizing an important community space where hundreds of local kids can play, learn, compete, and grow together. While 2K Foundations has renovated more than 56 courts around the world, investing in our own backyard in San Francisco made this project especially meaningful. To celebrate the opening, we hosted a community event alongside Golden State Warriors guard Will Richard, NBA champion Festus Ezeli, and our very own Ronnie Singh (Ronnie2K). Will officially kicked things off by making the very first shot on the new court. 🏀 The event featured on-court mini competitions, prizes, free game codes, local eats, and plenty of smiles from the kids who will use the space every day. Special thanks to Rob Connolly and the entire Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco team for being incredible partners throughout this project and for the important work they do for the local community every day. #2KFoundations

  • A Life Well Lived: Remembering Doris Fisher With sadness, respect, and profound appreciation, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco remembers, honors, and celebrates the extraordinary life of Doris Fisher. Over the decades, Doris Fisher helped champion opportunities for young people across San Francisco through her enduring support of BGCSF and other youth-serving nonprofits. Her family’s legacy can be felt across generations of Club youth, and through the continued partnership between BGCSF and Gap Inc., and its affiliated brands. "I was extremely lucky to know the friendship of Doris Fisher for many, many years. Together with her husband, Don, the Fishers were always very generous to the Club, starting in the early 1960s. Their support was more than just financial, they were investors and collaborators in the mission and purpose of BGCSF. Both Doris and Don were very proud of the work this organization does with youth, families, and neighborhoods." - Rob Connolly, President & CEO of BGCSF We are deeply grateful for Doris' kind heart, her love of community, and her tenacity for fighting for causes she believed in.

  • Thank you to Charles Schwab for partnering with us on an exciting and educational Reality Store event for our youth! The Reality Store is an interactive financial literacy workshop that challenges teens to set goals, develop budgets, and make informed financial decisions based on changes in career, family size, and geographic areas. Each of our youth was assigned a career, family status, and a one-month salary, and learned how to manage their expenses for a month. Experiences like this are made possible through our continued partnership with Charles Schwab. For nearly two decades, they have supported our youth as the Presenting Sponsor of our annual Youth of the Year celebration, and as a partner committed to helping young people prepare for what’s ahead. Thank you, Charles Schwab, for your sustained leadership and investment in our youth!

  • As part of National Volunteer Week, we’re proud to highlight volunteers who show up consistently for our youth—like Matthew Chapman at our Tenderloin Clubhouse. A Power Hour volunteer, Matthew works with our members to support homework and build strong learning habits during out-of-school time, helping set the foundation for long-term academic success. “As a retired attorney, moving back to the city after being away for two decades, with my wife still working full-time and our twin daughters fully grown, I was looking for some community—and I found it at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco. Working with the first graders at Power Hour is a wonderful way to help out while spending time with some youthful energy. Definitely a cure for empty-nest syndrome!” Matthew’s story is a reminder that volunteering is impactful for both youth and the adults who show up for them. Through Power Hour, volunteers like Matthew help advance Academic Success, providing the support and encouragement young people need to thrive in school. Thank you, Matthew, for being part of the Tenderloin Clubhouse community!
