We’re proud to announce the Bay Area’s first Regional Climate Action Plan, a collaborative approach to moving the Bay Area toward a carbon-neutral future. 👏 🌎 bit.ly/3MmoGUw 🤝⚡ Developed with extensive input from a variety of stakeholders, this plan uplifts local efforts and fills critical gaps to ensure climate action is efficient, equitable, and impactful. At a time when climate protections face uncertainty at the federal level, regional leadership is more important than ever. The plan outlines strategies to reduce climate pollution across key sectors including transportation, buildings, energy, waste, and natural and working lands while improving air quality, creating jobs, and strengthening community health. 🏙️🌱 #ClimateAction #CleanAir #BayArea #ClimateLeadership

The country's first regional air pollution control agency.
About us
The California Legislature created the Air District in 1955 as the first regional air pollution control agency in the country, recognizing that air emissions overflow political boundaries. The nine counties of the San Francisco Bay Area form a regional air basin, sharing common geographical features and weather patterns, and therefore similar air pollution burdens, which cannot be addressed by counties acting on their own. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is the public agency entrusted with regulating stationary sources of air pollution in the nine counties that surround San Francisco Bay: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, southwestern Solano, and southern Sonoma counties. Vision A healthy breathing environment for every Bay Area resident. Mission To protect and improve public health, air quality, and the global climate. Core Values Excellence - Air District programs and policies are founded on science, developed with technical expertise, and executed with quality. Leadership - The Air District will be at the forefront of air quality improvement and will pioneer new strategies to achieve healthy air and protect the climate. Collaboration - Involving, listening, and engaging all stakeholders, including partner agencies, to create broad acceptance for healthy air solutions. Dedication - Committed staff that live and believe the Air District’s mission. Equity - All Bay Area residents have the right to breathe clean air. 🚨 The Air District has fined Anheuser-Busch $2.3 million for multiple air quality violations at its brewery in Fairfield. Violations include elevated emissions and issues with the incorrect installation and operation of emissions monitoring. This action ensures accountability and reinforces the importance of compliance for all facilities operating in our region. 🔍📊 Penalty funds will be allocated to projects that reduce air pollution and improve public health in impacted communities.

Women’s History Month invites us to reflect not only on progress at a national level, but on the culture we are building here at the Air District. Over the past decade, women’s representation has grown from 37% of staff to 45% today. Women now make up 53% of our managers and 50% of our executives. These milestones reflect meaningful progress, made possible by women whose contributions strengthen our mission, support our communities, and elevate those around them.

Bay Area Air District reposted this
Today is a historic hot and hazy day in the Bay Area. Across California, rising heat and air pollution are colliding in ways scientists warn could become more common. But there is hope! Cities have the power to change our air quality—and San Francisco is one of them. Since 2010, fine particle pollution here has dropped by over 20%. San Francisco was recognized by Breathe Cities as a global leader making real progress. That progress is driven by cleaner transportation, stronger environmental standards, and sustained action across the city. Days like today are a reminder of what’s at stake. The question isn’t whether change is possible… it’s what’s can we do next to build on this success? Click below to learn more about this good news. https://lnkd.in/gU-WcPEj

The Air District recently joined policymakers, local leaders, and sustainability experts at the CivicWell Policymakers Conference in Yosemite National Park to discuss solutions for healthier communities and a more sustainable future. 🌱 The Air District was represented by board members Mayor Juan Gonzalez and Supervisor Otto Lee as well as Principal Deputy Executive Officer Meredith Bauer and Deputy Executive Officer Viet Tran, who shared perspectives on regional efforts to improve air quality, reduce climate pollution, and support community-driven climate solutions. The conference brought together policymakers from across California to exchange ideas and advance strategies that protect public health, strengthen local resilience, and accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy. 🤝 We appreciate opportunities like this to collaborate with partners and local leaders working toward cleaner air and a healthier Bay Area for all. #CleanAir #ClimateAction #BayArea #PublicHealth #Sustainability
