15 Best PS Plus Extra Games To Play Now

On June 13, 2022, Sony launched a new and improved PlayStation Plus in North America. Split into three tiers, this model combines the previous version of PS Plus with PS Now; depending on which level someone subscribes to, they will gain access to certain services and games.

• PlayStation Plus Essential ($9.99/month): This tier is the equivalent of the old PS Plus. A subscription includes online access, monthly free games, and discounts.
• PlayStation Plus Extra ($14.99/month): Along with the Essential tier benefits, Extra provides access to hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games.
• PlayStation Plus Premium ($17.99/month): Along with the Essential and Extra tier benefits, Premium includes a library of classic games (PS3, PS2, PSP, and PS1), trials, and cloud streaming in certain regions.

PS Plus has over 700 games covering more than two decades of PlayStation history. Such a huge collection can be overwhelming, and the PS Plus app does not make it very easy to browse through the library; as such, it can be useful to know this tier's highlights before investing in a subscription. Each month, Sony adds a handful of new games, most of which are PS5 releases. Let's take a look at some of the best PS Plus Extra games.

1 Final Fantasy 16 (New PS Plus Game – June 2026)

The Biggest New PS Plus Game Of 2026

With Kingdom Come Deliverance, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, and Sonic X Shadow Generations, June 2026's PS Plus lineup delivers quality across a wide range of genres. As big as all three of those games are, Final Fantasy 16 comfortably towers over them as the month's standout release, along with being among the best new PS Plus games of 2026.

Now, it should be said that FF16 moves away from the franchise's traditional JRPG structure, playing out like an action game with light RPG elements. Rather than controlling a party in turn-based combat or swapping between multiple fighters in real-time battles, FF16 features a solitary playable character, Clive. While companions join him, they act on their own and cannot be issued commands or anything of the sort. These changes might not be exactly what every fan wants from Square Enix's massive series, but I would still advise giving FF16 a try to see if its dark medieval story, epic large-scale Eikon battles, and fast-paced combat hit the mark.

Full disclosure, Devil May Cry is my favorite franchise of all time, so I was always predisposed to falling in love with FF16. However, I found the hybrid combat in the FF7 trilogy to be more engaging, and I probably should not have gone into FF16 hoping for something similar.

Go in with your mind open and free of expectations.

2 Final Call: Risk of Rain 2

Leaving PS Plus Extra In July 2026

Nothing lasts forever, and that extends to PS Plus games. Every month, a few titles depart Sony's service, and they hurt. In June, Red Dead Redemption and We Love Katamari Reroll left PS Plus, and they were hardly the only departures. If there's something you have been putting off playing, don't believe it will always be around, as a time will come when that's no longer the case.

Fortunately, Sony tends to give a month's notice for departures, providing enough time for subscribers to complete one or two titles. The July exit squad includes Get Even, Tropico 6, Source of Madness, and Roki, along with a few more names. The upcoming month's biggest retirement will be Risk of Rain 2, arguably one of the best games on PS Plus Extra. Honestly, I'm almost hesitant to recommend newcomers to start now, as I know full well that a month is nowhere near enough time to get your fill of Hopoo Games' masterpiece. However, RoR2 goes on sale fairly frequently, so it might be worth trying it out to see if a purchase could be required in the future.

3 Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar's Open-World Masterpiece Is On PS Plus

Well, you cannot get much better than arguably the greatest open-world game of all time, or at least a top contender. Now, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a massive deal regardless of the circumstances, but it should be noted that Rockstar's masterpiece was already part of PS Plus Extra, but it left the service in November 2024. That is about 18 months ago, so it is cool to have the game pack. Considering rumors of a GTA 6 reveal have been making the rounds, this arrival would give you something to play while waiting for that game to release. Or, it could be a complete coincidence.

What is there left to be said about RDR2? If you have never stepped into this universe, I heavily recommend playing the original Red Dead Redemption, which is also on PS Plus Extra, before jumping into the second entry. Yes, RDR2 is a prequel, but that is irrelevant. Otherwise, this game is for anybody looking for an immersive Western that tells a best-in-gaming story featuring characters you will come to love (or hate). The controls and gameplay can take some getting used to, though.

4 Marvel's Spider-Man 2

The Most Super Game On PS Plus Extra

Insomniac's full Spider-Man trilogy can be played with a PS Plus Extra subscription, and they combine to provide more than 50 hours of superhero greatness. When it comes to picking the best of the bunch, a strong argument could be made for all three of them; however, there is absolutely no point in doing that when we can just recommend all three games.

Spider-Man has received his fair share of great games over the decades, but Marvel's Spider-Man and its sequels are the most complete packages, delivering fantastic web-swinging, satisfying combat, quality visuals, and mostly decent stories. All three games are set in New York, and they recreate the city pretty darn well. While none of the open-worlds have amazing optional content by the standards of the genre, moving through them is so much fun that they are still a blast.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has the most divisive story in the trilogy, but it also fine-tunes the gameplay to near perfection. You also get to play as Miles and Peter, both of whom have nuances that set them apart from each other.

5 Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Maybe The Best Turn-Based RPG On PS Plus

I am almost hesitant to recommend Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Why? Because it will be the only game you play for a month or maybe even two, and that is only if you average at least 15 hours of gaming per week. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's franchise is known for its lengthy campaigns that combine an incredible main story with an absurd range of optional quests, but Infinite Wealth took things a few steps further. This is, by far, the longest entry in the franchise, one that will dominate your life and become your everything for a while.

Besides quantity, Infinite Wealth also delivers quality. Set in Hawaii and splitting its time between two protagonists, the story builds on Like a Dragon and The Man Who Erased His Name, emphasizing both Kazuma and Ichiban. The latter is the primary focus, but the former gets his moments in the spotlight as well. Honolulu is gorgeous, huge (by Yakuza standards), and densely populated with content, including sub-stories that are regularly incredible. The turn-based combat isn't that unusual for the genre, but it is all-around great.

6 The Last Of Us Part 1

Possibly The Best Game On PS Plus

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us brought the PS3 era to an end on the strongest possible note, producing an industry-defining game that has gone on to produce a big sequel and a highly-regarded TV adaptation. While the original release is not on PS Plus Premium, subscribers can check out the PS4 remaster, which is fantastic. PS5 owners can also play The Last of Us Part 1, a 2022 remake that gives the classic release a pretty thorough makeover. Honestly, if someone has already played through the original or remastered versions, they might not get too much out of the remake since the best part, the story, is unchanged. However, newcomers can just jump into this iteration.

The Last of Us follows Joel and Ellie as they go on a harrowing journey through a post-apocalyptic United States, all in the hopes of finding a group that might be able to create a cure using the latter's immunity to a fungus that has eradicated most humanity. Blending stealth, melee combat, and exploration, the gameplay sections are intense, visceral, and relatively challenging. More importantly, the story and characters are phenomenal, comfortably among the best in PlayStation history.

7 Bloodborne

No, This Is Probably The Best Game On PS Plus

Boasting a Gothic aesthetic and reflex-based combat that demands aggression from players, Bloodborne delivers a kinetic experience that shines on a visual, auditory, and gameplay level. Naturally, FromSoftware's masterpiece is not an easy game, but it is one of the most rewarding PS4 exclusives. Consequently, it is easily among the best games on PS Plus, while also being a personal favorite of mine.

Although not devoid of technical and performance issues, Bloodborne's environments, combat, boss designs, atmosphere, and storytelling are arguably among the very best in the Soulslike genre, if not just action RPGs in general. Therefore, I recommend pushing through the first hour or so until you start to get used to the lower framerate compared to more modern releases.

Both versions of Demon's Souls are also on PS Plus.

8 Cyberpunk 2077

The Long Road To Redemption Leads To One Of The Greatest Open-World Games Ever

In 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 was the most controversial game on the market, particularly the PS4-era version. The PS5 iteration was always playable, but certain issues kept it from being an ideal experience. Jump forward a few years, and CD Projekt Red's sci-fi RPG has made a near-full recovery, not only establishing itself as the ultimate comeback story but also proving successful enough that even iterative updates like the upcoming 2.3 are capable of sparking widespread excitement.

Set in the impressive Night City, Cyberpunk 2077 blends clever character writing with an ambitious overarching storyline and enjoyable first-person gunplay that is backed by augmentation options. The game is not very difficult by any stretch of the imagination, but V can be turned into a walking god that destroys everyone, which is fun in its own right. If this is your first time trying Cyberpunk 2077, you are in store for what should be a fantastic experience.

9 Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

Well, Aloy's First Adventure Is Back On PS Plus Extra

This is a bit of a strange one. Of course, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is the biggest April 2026 new PS Plus game, and by quite a margin. After all, we are talking about a massive console exclusive that launched a franchise that is still going strong and will hopefully produce many more great sagas. Frankly, HZD should be on PS Plus in some form or another, and it was frustrating (but understandable) when the non-remastered version was pulled from the service in 2024, just a couple of months before its improved iteration became available.

Still, subscribers had Horizon Zero Dawn for years before it was taken away, and that included the complete edition with "The Frozen Wilds" DLC. Because of this history, it is a bit difficult to get too excited about this new arrival, just because we are essentially getting a game we already had at one point.

That out of the way, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is one of the best open-world games on PS Plus, and the genre isn't really necessary. If you have only played Forbidden West, I would definitely recommend going back and playing its predecessor, especially since the remaster adopts quite a few elements from the sequel. HZD looks gorgeous, plays well, and tells a slow-burning but great storyline.

10 God Of War Ragnarok

One Of The Best PlayStation Console Exclusives On PS Plus

A direct sequel to 2018's God of War, Ragnarok brings the franchise's Norse saga to an end, or at least I assume that is the case. As suggested by the title, the story revolves around the pending onset of Ragnarok, an end-of-the-world event said to coincide with the destruction of the realms and the gods. Kratos wants to stop that, but he is also on the cusp of war with Odin; in the meantime, the All-Father is trying to bring Atreus to his side.

Gameplay-wise, Ragnarok plays similarly to 2018's God of War, albeit with a few tweaks and the introduction of a new weapon. The combat is still crunchy, satisfying, and intense; that said, if someone hated the system in the previous game, they likely will not get too much out of the sequel. While Atreus is still the main companion, Kratos is also aided by a few other characters, all of whom have unique abilities that are fun to use in battles. The campaign is fairly long and generally ambitious, blending character-driven moments with an epic sense of scale. Ragnarok also comes with Valhalla, an epilogue mode that is just all-around brilliant.
