Toby Fox Has Deltarune Chapter 6 Release Update and Denies Fan Theory

Toby Fox has provided an official update on Deltarune Chapter 6's release date in his newsletter, as well as shutting down a popular fan theory that's likely to disappoint people who are playing the Weird Route.

As of the time of writing, Deltarune Chapter 5 has launched, and unlike the previous Chapter 3 & 4 duo, it didn't end with a release date reveal. This has made fans worried that Chapter 6 is still a few years off, especially considering how long it has taken to get here, with Chapter 1 launching all the way back in 2018.

In Toby Fox's Summer 2026 newsletter, he gave a new update on Deltarune Chapter 6, including details about its length. Thankfully, Fox gave a reassuring release window for the next part of Deltarune, with fans likely to be returning to the Dark World next year.

Deltarune Chapter 6 Should Launch In 2027

According to Toby Fox in his newsletter, when talking about Deltarune, he said, "I believe we will be able to release Chapter 6 in 2027." While he didn't narrow down a specific timeframe, it still means that fans will be waiting a year and a half at most to experience the next part of the story, as Fox has usually been accurate with his predictions regarding the release windows for the game.

Surprisingly, Toby Fox also confirmed that Deltarune Chapter 6 won't be released as a bundle with Chapter 7, as many fans had speculated, which had been done with Chapter 3 & 4. The reason for this is that the Weird Route ends with the reveal that the story will continue in "Chapter 7 Route B", so fans thought there would be a direct continuation in the next update.

The fact that Chapter 7 isn't launching alongside Chapter 6 is likely to disappoint a lot of fans, as it means that those playing the Weird Route won't be able to continue the game, at least not until 2028 or 2029 at the earliest, as the Deltarune team is still busy working on Chapter 6.

Fox also revealed that Chapter 6 would be a shorter, more straightforward story. This means it's likely to focus on Noelle's reaction to the existence of the Dark World, and the potential passing of her father. Fans are likely to be disappointed by this reveal, as they're expecting something on the epic scale of Chapter 5, but if it means the story actually progresses and isn't just more fan theory bait, then it will be worth the wait.

One aspect of Chapter 5 that was also explained in the newsletter is the origin of Flowery's "Jarona" voice clip. Many fans had assumed it was a reference to "My Sharona" by The Knack, but Fox revealed that it was actually something his older brother used to say when they were kids, while mimicking anime-style attacks, which fits perfectly with Flowery's characterization.

It's strange to think that Deltarune has been told over the course of a decade, with fan theories and works being the lifeblood of the franchise. Much like watching Game of Thrones in its heyday, Deltarune has attracted a passionate fanbase who are obsessed with seeing all the questions answered. The true question is whether Fox can stick the landing, considering the hype he has built. However, Fox also made Undertale, one of the best video games ever made, so if anyone can pull this off, it's him.
