If you somehow aren't already loving the amazing journey of Split Fiction, this final chapter is going to change your mind.

Chapter 8, simply titled Split, is hands-down one of the most technically impressive and creative levels in a video game you will ever see.

8 Best Co-Op Sandbox Games

Building something pretty next to your friend's dirt hut has never been easier than with these games.

Let's briefly set the scene. Rader is fed up with Zoe and Mio trying to break out of his machine, so he takes matters into his own hands. Ripping a hole into their bubble, he inserts himself into their stories and becomes a god-like character in the process.

Now, it's up to Mio and Zoe to break out of his grasp and wreck his machine before he gets to them first.

If you're trophy hunting in Split Fiction, there's nothing here to look for. So simply sit back and enjoy this insane ride to the finish.

Spoiler Alert: This is one of the coolest levels in gaming history. This guide will completely spoil it.

Split Up

Right off the bat, you'll notice that Mio and Zoe are trapped in their own worlds that are running parallel to one another. We'll figure this out in a bit.

For now, do some simple platforming maneuvers until you meet back up with your buddy.

Split Fiction Split Buttons

Interestingly, Zoe and Mio can actually see and interact with each other, but they can only perceive one another within their own worlds. Trippy!

Stand on the buttons/stumps in front of you, and the cranes/trees further behind will swing your way to reveal grappling points. Cross the gap.

You'll eventually come to your first puzzle of Chapter 8. Mio needs to grab hold of the small cart in front of her and push it to the edge of the arena just below the platform above.

To Zoe, this cart is actually a bouncy mushroom that she can use to reach this ledge above.

Once here, Zoe can kick down a tree, which lowers a satellite tower in Mio's world for her to climb up.

Mio can interact with a control panel, and you're through the next gate.

Split Fiction Flower Ride

Hitch a ride on the propeller/flower in front of you, and you'll reach a platform.

From here, you'll take a short slide down to your next puzzle.

You'll find a large robotic arm in Mio's world that's doubling as a giant, carnivorous plant in Zoe's.

Mio has another control panel here and can follow Zoe's movement with the robot/plant. On the ground is a power node on a cable. In Zoe's world, this is a small, orange flower.

Zoe needs to stand next to this node/flower so that Mio can attack it with the robot/plant.

Upon impact, the power node will explode, and another gate will open for you.

Split Fiction Split Squares

Ahead are two pink squares in Mio's world that are connected to power cables. Mio needs to stand on one while Zoe uses Mio's screen to figure out where the other square is in her world.

Once both players are in place, a platform rises to proceed.

Here, Zoe must jump into the water and grab hold of the floating, wooden platform.

After dragging it back to Mio and having her jump on, you'll notice a wall of lasers appears on Mio's stage. These lasers cannot damage Zoe, but will kill Mio on impact.

Time this move well, and have Zoe move the platform to the other side of the first laser. Mio will have to jump over them at the correct moment.

Next, Mio can climb a vent on the left wall. While Mio waits at the top, Zoe can drag the platform across the second laser wall. When it's safe, Mio can jump down and pull the level at the end of the room.

This triggers a waterfall to raise both players to the next puzzle.

There's a flaming door in Zoe's world preventing you from moving any further on. Mio can jump on a laser beam turret to the left.

On the right, Zoe has the ability to pull a level and dump water into paper lantern-style fish. Mio must shoot one of these water-filled fish right when it's above the flaming door in Zoe's area.

Here's how to get this done the easiest:

  • Zoe dumps water into a fish.
  • Zoe runs around to the other side to show Mio the water-filled fish heading over the flaming doorway.
  • Using the yellow wire above the door in her own world as a guide, Mio fires her laser turret right as the fish in Zoe's world is directly above the fire.

You just need to do this successfully once, and you're on your way.

Split fiction Geyser Fan Split

Jump up the giant fan/geyser that opened up behind the fire door.

Split fiction Door Open 2 Split

At the end of a bridge is a giant door that both players can push open together.

Subchapter 1 is completed. Things are about to get weirder.

A Warm Greeting

After stepping through the giant double doors, take a second to get your bearings. Your worlds are still divided down the middle of the screen with one big difference.

Mio and Zoe can now pass freely across the center line on your TV screen and instantly travel between worlds.

Head forward and cross over to Zoe's side to dodge a bank of lasers.

Split Fiction Split First Rader

Finally, you'll meet Rader and his terrifying form he's taken on since entering the machine with you.

He'll throw an airplane at you, which breaks the stage and sends you into a frantic slide downwards.

Your goal here isn't too complicated. You simply need to slide back and forth across the screen each time one of the worlds throws a hazard your way.

Dodge a saw machine on Mio's side. Dodge some thorns on Zoe's side. Easy enough.

Next, you'll start freefalling. Glide right to dodge a helicopter and crash into some water on Zoe's side.

A great white shark will head straight towards you. Don't switch back over just yet, however, as Mio's side will send you plummeting to your doom.

Right before the shark swallows you whole, a ship with grapple points will appear on Mio's side. Quickly switch over and grapple on.

You'll dangle around for a few seconds before coming to another grapple point that both players need to latch onto simultaneously.

You'll reach your next section while riding either hoverboards or broomsticks, depending on the side of the screen. Again, weave back and forth to avoid obstacles.

Dodge some dragon fire and avoid a dropoff or two.

Split Fiction Rader Run End

Rader will pop back up once again and send you to your next subchapter.

Face-To-Face

Split Fiction Face To Face

Face-To-Face is one of three boss fights with Rader. First, you'll need to catch up to him.

As you're sliding down a new platform, he'll send pink shockwaves and walls directly at you. These will kill you on impact, so jump and weave like there's no tomorrow.

Split Fiction Split Rader Slide

Thread the needle on some wall/shockwave combos to keep pushing forward.

Split Fiction Rader Split Fight Falling

You'll start skydiving once again and will need to pass through orange gates that get smaller and smaller as you get closer.

Pass through three successfully, and it's time for some face time with Rader.

Though Rader has a health bar at this point, you still cannot damage him.

His first move is to launch pillars from above that leave gaping holes in the floor. Avoid the red landing spots for these pillars and survive as best you can.

Rader will destroy the floor with many different moves from now until the end of this chapter. The floor always repairs itself, however. Don't panic if you're running out of room.

Next, deadly pink spots rise from the floor. Avoid them as they ascend.

Rader will now fold the floor into a cylinder and begin rotating the entire arena.

He'll spin it left, then right, then left once more before this move ends. Move with his rotation and avoid the pink spots in the process.

Next, you'll need to dodge shockwave after shockwave of pink walls of death. After leaping over a couple, you'll notice some shiny objects with button prompts appearing on your screen.

These are glitch fragments, essential to taking Rader down.

Work together to collect all the fragments while avoiding the shockwaves.

Once every piece is collected, a reconstructed glitch will form at the middle of the map.

Both players must button-mash a prompt at the glitch.

Rader will stop you short before filling your button prompt meters and send you both flying backwards.

Mio can grapple back to the stage, and Zoe can grapple/wall run.

Once back on solid ground, run straight back to the glitch and button-mash once more.

Rader will throw more shockwaves at you as you try to do this. As long as you're locked into the button-mash QTE, you won't be damaged.

The glitch bestows two machine guns upon Mio and Zoe. Finally, you can deal some damage.

Fire as much and as often as possible at Rader and chip away at his HP. He'll start throwing more attacks, but just keep shooting.

He'll launch a zipper-like wave that leaves giant gaps taken out of the stage, along with more shockwaves you should have a decent handle on by now.

He can also slam the ground, causing the floor to shift up and down in various places. This will make it more difficult to keep hitting him with bullets, so move around to get the right angle.

His giant pillars from the sky will also return and create more holes in the floor.

Survive and shoot him as often as possible to end this phase of the fight.

Split Fiction Split Rader Slap

With a giant slap on the stage, Rader sends Mio and Zoe both back into their separate worlds.

Worlds Apart

Split Fiction Worlds Apart

The bulk of this next subchapter takes place in an isometric, top-down view.

The additional tweak to this one is that the line down the middle of your screen will twist and shift based on whichever character is further ahead on screen. This is disorienting at first, so move around a bit to get used to it.

Rader will pop up again and break some of your platforms. No big deal. Keep moving to the right.

Split Fiction Split Lever Turn

You'll find a lever that both players need to turn in order to open your next gate forward.

Here, Mio has to avoid fire and paths blocked off by debris, while Zoe has to avoid falling into piles of thorns.

Take it slow here. Both players simply running ahead too quickly will cause the line on your screen to move too much, more than likely causing a few deaths.

Slowly and methodically work your way forward. You should take alternating turns.

One player moves ahead as far as they can while the other is stationary. Switch roles, and repeat this process as many times as necessary.

Split Fiction Split Snake Statues

Next, Zoe can press a button to open the mouths of three snake head statues. Mio can pull a switch to fire some lasers.

The laser beams manifest in Zoe's world as stone posts that will wedge themselves in the open mouths of the snake statues.

Zoe can leap across the orange ends of these posts, and you can both move along.

Split Fiction Split Shells and Bombs

Here, Zoe has to jump on top of turtle shells to cross a river. Mio needs to cross conveyor belts and avoid bombs as they come her way. Keep moving to the right.

After pressing a couple of buttons on a platform, you'll switch perspectives once again. You need to climb this pseudo-Ice Climbers vertical stage while a deathly void of Rader's creation below creeps towards you.

Speed is the name of the game here, so the line on your screen that transitions between sci-fi and fantasy will start going a bit haywire.

This is designed to distract you, but you don't need to let it win. The stages in both worlds are 100% identical. Even though they obviously look different, it takes the exact same platforming on either side to make it to the top.

Stay calm, and reach the glitch at the top of the stage before the void catches you.

Split Fiction Split Rader Big Smash

At the last second, Rader will crush the stage once again and send you tumbling to your next challenge.

Cross Section

Split Fiction Cross Section

One of the most visually striking sections of the game, Cross Section is definitely a lot to look at. The floor you're standing on will constantly morph into different shapes and sizes while revealing constant hazards you can't step on.

In general, you're aiming to stay on the lilly pads. Piranhas, as you should expect, will kill you instantly.

Your giant lilly pad panel will shrink to a small square and move around the screen. Move with it and stay on top.

Split Fiction Split Lillies

Rader will show up to mix things up once you've sufficiently traversed the lilly pads enough.

Split Fiction Split Truck Jumps

On this screen, you'll have to jump from space truck to space truck while hazards quite literally rain from the sky.

You'll see a giant raindrop fall onto a truck, which will immediately expand into pits of lava, sawblades, or more piranhas.

These circles of death shrink back down in no time, so hop around the trucks until this phase is done.

Split Fiction Split Divided Screen

Suddenly, you'll find yourself on a pleasant forest floor. Don't be fooled, however, you're not safe yet.

A sweeping line on the screen will rotate counter-clockwise and reveal a new hazard on each quadrant of the screen.

Head to the top-left square to survive.

Split Fiction Split Clockwise Hazards

Now, the entire screen will begin spinning like a windmill in a clockwise direction. Stay on the lilly pads and you'll be fine.

Split Fiction Split Rader Screen Close

Alright, Rader is tired of this nonsense. He'll literally close the screen and drop you back into another boss encounter.

Fight A God

Split Fiction Fight A God

Inside a volcano, Rader now wields a giant fire sword.

First, he'll sweep back and forth three times with his new blade. Jump over each swipe.

Next up are three overhead smashes from his blade. Avoid the giant impact zone on the ground.

Be extremely careful, as these smashes also shoot waves of fire in both directions after impact. You'll need to dodge the strike and immediately jump over the fire waves.

From here, Rader's moveset will repeat. Once again, you'll notice glitch fragments collecting on the floors.

Keep dodging and grab all the fragments. Once reconstructed, button-mash on the glitch.

This time, Zoe and Mio will be given giant, futuristic swords that would make Cloud Strife proud.

Split Fiction Split Sword Energy Attack

Your new blades shoot waves of damaging energy. Spam Rader with these attacks as consistently as you can to start draining his health bar.

Rader first move here will launch exploding sharks from the sky while pillars of fire move around the arena.

After this, he will smack the ground three times in a row with his trident, which sends a shockwave with each smash that you need to jump over.

These are the best and most puzzling games for best buds to play around in.

These moves will repeat until you get his health low enough.

Once he's just below 50% health, you'll move on to Phase 3.

As Rader is making his phase transition here, keep attacking him as much as possible. You can quite easily get his health down to 25% by the time he's ready for action again.

Now on the moon and in low gravity, Rader will start baseballing giant asteroids your way. These also leave temporary trails of fire on the ground you'll need to avoid.

Next, he'll begin launching missiles. Avoid their landing/detonation spots on the floor. Spaceship will also spawn and shoot lasers at you the entire time.

These two movesets will repeat until Mio and Zoe take Rader's health to zero once again.

While this stage is curved like a planet, you can still fall off the sides. This isn't Mario Galaxy.

Split Fiction Split Rader Falcon Punch

Tired of your shenanigans once again, Rader will punch Zoe straight out of your TV screen.

A New Perspective

Split Fiction A New Perspective

Mio is now trapped inside a TV, and Zoe is walking around the TV screen on the outside. Zoe can stomp on the screen and cause actions on the inside.

This is the gimmick of this subchapter. As Zoe, stomp on the red button on the gate. It will open, and Mio can proceed.

Split Fiction Split Zoe Stomp 1

Next, Mio needs to jump on the wooden crate. Zoe can stomp the green button above to send the crate up the rails.

This will need to be done repeatedly and steadily. The crate will slide back down if Zoe isn't stomping enough.

Once across, Mio can jump down.

Split Fiction Split Zoe Stomp 2

On the next screen, Zoe simply needs to stomp on all three platforms. Each will reveal a surface that Mio can jump onto in order to cross to safety.

Split Fiction Split Rader Bridge Break Again

An even more angry Rader will break the bridge Mio is standing on, sending her to the finale of this subchapter.

Split Fiction Split Zoe Many Crate Break

With a giant wall of deadly grinders closing in behind, Mio needs to keep moving to the right as quickly as possible. Walls of metal boxes and wooden crates will steadily come her way.

Zoe can stomp on the wooden crates to break them, which shortens each stack of metal boxes enough for Mio to continually jump further to the right. Survive until the boxes stop coming.

Zoe does not have to smash every wooden crate, so the Mio player should communicate with the Zoe player to let them know each time a stack is cleared and to move on to the next one.

Split Fiction Split rader Screen Punch

Surprise! Rader is back. He'll punch a hole in your TV screen for being so annoying and refusing to die.

Outside The Box

Split Fiction Outside The Box

Now, Zoe is trapped inside a tablet, and Mio will need to guide her out.

The gimmick here is that Mio can physically turn the entire tablet left to right. This action shifts and moves the objects in Zoe's world inside the tablet.

To start, Mio can tilt the screen to the left to slide a box to Zoe.

Zoe can use the box to climb the platform to her left.

Next, Mio tilts to the right to stretch the platform for Zoe all the way to a vine she can climb up.

Split Fiction Split Mio Tilt Room 2

In the next section, Mio just needs to tilt the screen left once and right once. This will cause two platforms on the walls to drop, which Zoe can use to climb to the next area.

Rader will destroy all but the center portion of the bridge up ahead. Mio can tilt the remaining piece to the left. After Zoe hops on, the whole structure can be tilted all the way across the gap to the right.

Inside a hanger, Zoe can jump onto a pole that Mio can slide to the right. Stop just before the beams of fire at the bottom of the screen.

Time it well, and Mio can tilt Zoe through the fire shooters just as each one turns off.

After the third fire beam, Mio should try to slow down the pole as much as possible by tilting left and Zoe climbs to the top of the pole as quickly as possible to avoid the giant sawblades at the end.

This next section is straightforward—Mio tilts left, Zoe jumps onto the rope, Mio tilts right, Zoe jumps down.

There's a platform immediately after, and the same process is repeated. The only difference is that Zoe needs to wait to jump off at the end of the platform until the platform smashes into a glass wall and creates her path forward.

Rader will begin another chase sequence with a red void wall approaching from the left. Zoe can jump onto a mine cart, and Mio can tilt it right down the tracks.

You'll reach a platform. Zoe needs to climb it while Mio positions the mine cart on the right side of the platform's edge. Zoe can now drop back onto the mine cart and continue on.

Next is a wheel. Mio needs to bring it to the left side of the screen, then send it back to the right after Zoe jumps on. Zoe will have to balance on top as the wheel spins to the right.

Rader will now trap Zoe between two giant lasers. This looks scary, but it's pretty simple. Zoe just needs to stay between the lasers as Mio tilts the screen to the right.

Eventually, the path right will end, and Zoe will need to jump to a platform on the left and Mio tilts left as well.

This process is repeated, and Zoe can try to interact with another glitch.

Split Fiction Split Rader Curb Stomp

One final time, Rader will break the party up and curb-stomp you into one last boss battle.

Final Showdown

Split Fiction Split Rader Parking Attendant

For his last trick, Rader will summon characters from the earlier chapters to try to finish Mio and Zoe off.

First up is the Parking Attendant. Rader will smash it into the ground repeatedly, creating shockwaves each time. Dodge and survive.

Split Fiction Split Rader Dragon

Next, Rader will pull a giant dragon head through a portal in the center of the stage. Navigate around the perimeter and dodge the fireball landing spots that will appear on the floor.

You'll notice glitch fragments at this point once again. Work together and collect them.

After button-mashing this glitch, Mio and Zoe will be given sticky bomb grenade launchers.

You know the drill by now—fire these at Rader as often as you can until his health is destroyed. Easier said than done this time, however.

Split Fiction Split Rader Ogres

Rader will now summon a hoard of ogres from the opening of the game, and they'll immediately charge at you. Mow them down ASAP. They'll die in one shot, so aim carefully.

Split Fiction Split Rader Robot Head

Next, Rader rips the head off of .exe-QT-3.14 and places it at the center of the stage.

The robot head will spin constantly while shooting out laser beams that you'll have to jump rope over with each and every sweep. All the while, Rader will be launching missiles your way as well.

Kill the robot head as fast as you can, and make sure to keep getting shots in at Rader, too.

Split Fiction Split Rader Sandfish

Back from your first side story, a school of sandfish will now be thrown your way. Shoot them, or simply dodge side to side.

Split Fiction Split Rader Treasure Traitor

The Treasure Traitor turtle is your next returning enemy. He'll throw pillars of energy your way as well as spiky turtle shells that bounce around in every direction.

Thankfully, Treasure Traitor doesn't have much HP here, so you can take him out with minimal trouble.

Split Fiction Split Rader Drones

Spinning sci-fi drones are next. They only move in two diagonal directions, so these are no trouble at all to dodge. You don't even need to shoot them. Simply dodge long enough, and Rader will get bored.

Split Fiction Split Rader Ice King

Rader's final summon is the Ice King. This time, however, he only has one attack. With a swipe of his paws, he'll launch waves of energy pillars at Mio and Zoe.

Dodge these attacks and take him down.

From here, this entire cycle starting with the ogres will repeat as long as necessary until you're able to drain all of Rader's health.

Stay focused and shoot as often as you can.

Rader will fall off the stage, so Mio and Zoe dive after him.

You'll skydive through several portals and will need to dodge debris, lasers, spacehips, and worms along the way.

You've finally reached the final confrontation. Rader will try to separate Mio and Zoe's worlds entirely.

Both characters will walk to the edges of the screen on their own. When the button prompts appear, both players just need to button-mash one last time to launch Rader back to reality.

Split Fiction Split Mio and Zoe End

This action will finally break Mio and Zoe out of the machine as well.

With that, you did it! Enjoy the final cutscenes of Split Fiction.
