I can see your point. A lot of the games from that era feel clunky now, personally. Even playing san andreas is only fun for the nostalgia. I feel like they got away with janky controls because we were so impressed with the scale of these 3d worlds/graphics at the time.
I will say, most fps' have not aged well, imo. Low frame rates, bad textures, empty landscapes, etc. make going back and giving games a real playthrough tough.
To me, most of the ps2 library sits in a weird space between fun vintage and upscalable classics. I think back fondly of my time with the ps2, but don't find myself wanting to play many games again. That's just me. 🤷🏾♂
