I've given Terraria several chances over the years, on multiple platforms, since it's release, ...and it's simply never clicked with me either. It looks and sounds just up my alley, but AI just can't get into it or enjoy it that much.

No Betrayal at Krondor? It was more innovative than any three of these picks combined (minis maybe Planescape Torment). We've truly lost our way. Pathfinder WotR is a great game, but a copy of a copy of a copy compared to Betrayal at Krondor. Utterly lacking anything novel or original by comparison.

To me it reads as a gamer's *honest* opinion about games that are otherwise in a comically oversaturated medium filled with shilling.

You say that there's "totally" a place for this kind of criticism...but where would that be if not a site that reviews video games? Only positive reviews allowed, or what? Any criticism of something that isn't AAA is "punching down" is a bizarre form of censorship. I didn't read this as in bad faith at all, despite my disagreeing with a few of their takes.
