A little bit of love can go a long way in a competitive RPG like Pillars of Eternity 2, and its soon-to-be suitors will have you drooling for their attention.
From warriors to wizards, this game's lineup of companions offers plenty of opportunities to build romantic connections and fall in love.
No one can resist a good gaming romance, and the romances in Pillars of Eternity 2 do not disappoint.
Whether you're looking for love or are just curious, this guide will walk you through every romance option in the game, including which flirty dialogue options and choices matter most!
All Player Romance Options in Pillars of Eternity 2
Though their romantic storylines aren't as fleshed out as many fans might like, Pillars of Eternity 2 offers a variety of romance options to choose from.
There are three male suitors and two female suitors in the game's lineup of eligible bachelors and bachelorettes, so no matter what gender floats your boat, this game's got your back!
One important thing to keep in mind, however, is that Pillars of Eternity 2's romance feature seems to have been added in almost as an afterthought; it's not like other RPGs that have specified "routes", or deeply intertwined storylines centered around your romantic relationship.
Although romance is technically possible in this game, it's incredibly subtle, and there's almost no "right" way to do it - no specific set of dialogue options, no particular actions or inactions that will set you on their romantic route, nothing.
Because of that, there isn't really a specific method of romancing the character of your choice, other than simply being as helpful and friendly to them as possible, and choosing the flirtier dialogue options when available.
That being said, romance is still well worth the effort in this game, as it allows players to see certain sides of characters that they might have otherwise never known existed.
Here are all of Pillars of Eternity 2's romanceable NPCs and their backgrounds:

Xoti |

Serafen |

Most of these characters' romantic storylines can be unlocked merely by choosing dialogue options that lean toward a romantic outcome, so you shouldn't stress yourself out too much about winning them over.
How to Romance Aloth Corfiser
The Wood Elf
For the most part, Aloth's romance is one of the lengthier ones in the game, though not much more so than any of the other NPCs. Aloth is a bit of a flighty bird when it comes to romance, so once you've made him a companion, you'll want to give him his space and take things slowly when pursuing him.
As a companion, you'll have a lot of dialogue options to choose from when interacting with him; many of these dialogue options will be flirty, especially as you progress through his companionship.
In order to completely romance Aloth, choosing these flirty dialogue options is important, but make sure you don't choose any that make it seem as though he doesn't have a choice in the matter or seem too pushy.
Choosing options that let him know you're interested but are still open to giving him his space is how you'll spend your happily ever after with Aloth Corfiser in Pillars of Eternity 2.
How to Romance Maia Rua
The Island Aumaua
Surprisingly, Maia is one of the more complex romances in Pillars of Eternity 2, but not for the reasons you might think. Instead of merely choosing romantic dialogue options and getting friendly with her, you'll also have to go on a bit of a fetch quest for her bird, Ishiza.
At some point during your pursuit of Maia, you'll become tasked with finding Shark Meat for Ishiza. Thankfully, getting your hands on the fishy treat isn't too difficult; it can be bought from a small shop in Sayuka, which can be found just northwest of Neketaka.
Maia's romantic dialogue options should become available once you've acquired and handed over the Shark Meat. From there, all you have to do is keep up the romantic pursuit and she'll be as good as yours!
How to Romance Tekēhu
The Marine Godlike
Given how flirtatious Tekēhu's character is, it's almost no surprise that he's one of the easiest to romance in Pillars of Eternity 2. In fact, he's also the fastest character to romance in Pillars of Eternity 2; you can get into Tekēhu's pants almost right from the start, which is crazy when you stop and think about how long other characters' romances take (especially Aloth's).
All you have to do to endear yourself to Tekēhu is respond to his flirtatious dialogue and keep him close, just like you would do with any other character that you were trying to romance.
Once you've got him in your clutches, get ready to get love-bombed pretty much every time his face pops up on your screen, because if you thought his dialogue was risqué before, then nothing will prepare you for how scandalous it gets after you're dating him.
How to Romance Xoti
The Savannah Human
Xoti is similar to Tekēhu in the sense that she's romanceable pretty early on in the game, though she's not quite as easy to win over as he is. Xoti is a bit of a lover at heart, and she will develop crushes on other in-game NPCs if you don't lock her in as soon as possible.
In addition to steering her away from potential competition, you'll also want to steer clear of any cynical or skeptical views of Eothas, or any of Eora’s gods, really. Insulting her beliefs isn't a great way to get on her good side, so as long as you remain empathetic and respectful, you should be in the clear.
For the most part, Xoti values kindness and altruism above all else, so kind-hearted Watchers are almost guaranteed to hold a special spot in her heart. As long as you're nice and respectful of her beliefs, you shouldn't have any problems romancing Xoti in Pillars of Eternity 2.
How to Romance Serafen
The Wild Orlan
Serafen's romance is a bit unique in the sense that it's not much of a romance at all. It's possible for players to have a one-night stand with him, but not much of anything else past that.
Most of the other companions will begin to subtly make advances on the player after they finish their quests, but Serafen is one of the only ones who doesn't.
You'll have to spell it out for him and choose overtly suggestive dialogue options if you want him to notice you. Even then, however, all of your hard work will only result in a singular, casual encounter that will amount to almost nothing in the end.
The only instance where this tactic will not work is if the Watcher is a Fire Godlike; if that's the case, then Serafen will turn you down in fear of his fur getting burned, which is fair.
Do Romances Affect the Main Quest?
While romance can absolutely add depth to the game’s narrative, it won't directly impact Pillars of Eternity 2's main questline in any way. You may have very different experiences based on which companion you choose to woo in each playthrough, but the game's core story remains largely unaffected by your romantic choices.
That being said, romancing certain characters in the game can greatly influence how they react to certain decisions you make during key moments in the story, which can certainly change your perception of the questline's narrative.
These types of NPC reactions don’t derail the main questline in any way, but they can certainly add intense emotional stakes for the player, especially if your decisions end up conflicting with your partner's values.
All Possible Companion Romances in Pillars of Eternity 2
The romance feature in Pillars of Eternity 2 is unique for many reasons, another of which is that the companions can and will form romantic attachments to each other outside of the player.
Xoti, for example, will go on to form up to two romantic attachments if not pursued by the player soon enough.
Once these characters are locked into relationships of their own, it's impossible to break them up and get them to fall in love with you instead, so you probably shouldn't try getting any funny ideas about becoming a homewrecker in this game.
Here are all of the companion romances in Pillars of Eternity 2:
Xoti and Edér
Relatively early in the game, Xoti confesses that she's begun to develop a small crush on Edér, which is understandable given their similar backgrounds and upbringings.
However, this small flame isn't destined to become the inferno of love that many Xedér shippers might've hoped for; instead, it will eventually fizzle out, and the player will be free to pursue Xoti without any further complications.
Xoti and Maia
Once Xoti's romantic feelings for Edér dissipate, she'll approach you about her newfound feelings for Maia (she really wastes no time when it comes to romance).
As long as you encourage her romantic feelings, make sure both are in your party, and frequently try to take them to Neketaka to spark the right dialogue interactions, these two should fall in love with each other in no time!
Konstanten and Fassina
This romance can only take place in the Seeker, Slayer, Survivor DLC. To get their romance up and running, you'll first need to make sure that both of them are in your party.
At some point, you'll be able to initiate a conversation with Konstanten by asking, “Has the journey been everything you thought it’d be?” This prompts him to admit his growing affection for Fassina, which will spark their romantic affair for the rest of the DLC.
Supposedly, there are also romantic dialogue interactions that have been found in the game's files between Iselmyr and Edér, though their romance has yet to be confirmed as canon.
