Have you been enjoying the most recent content drop for Helldivers 2? Well, keep enjoying it - because the devs won't be looking to add more content for a hot minute. The game has bigger issues, they say, and they need to take some time to address them.

"Into the Unjust', the update that released early last September, saw powerful new bugs get added to the game. Players enjoyed the new experiences, but the devs at Arrowhead Studios felt a bit sour.

New Helldivers 2 Update Patch Hive Worlds

The game's director, Mikael Eriksson, discusses how the team felt in a video on Helldivers official Youtube channel (thanks, Eurogamer).

"After the last big update, Into the Unjust, we experienced more issues than what we were comfortable with," he explains. "Players felt it, we felt it, and I would say the feedback that we've got has been very justified.

Helldivers 2 is in need of performance improvements. One commenter on the video describes a "collective sigh" from players when enemies "run through yet another wall" - and while that particular bug is certainly worth squashing, the needs of the game stretch far beyond that.

Many bug patches will be relatively easy to get done, but solutions to the game's framerate issues are described as "tricky".

"We're taking this very seriously and we are focusing way more now on addressing these issues to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen again," Eriksson says. "We have made the decision to push some of our content and feature updates a little bit into the future while we're addressing these things to make sure that we can get to a much more stable state that we can believe in."

We are already making really big improvements and I'm confident that we will get there.

Details on these new fixes will arrive "hopefully quite soon," though no exact timeline has been given.

Helldivers 2 Performance Fixes Will Take Time, But Players Are Hyped Anyway

Helldivers 2 Xbox

Back-end performance improvements are rarely enough to make a snazzy trailer out of. They don't help promote the game or draw in new players, and you certainly can't charge money for them. But if done well, they can really improve the lives of already-enfranchised players, and potentially bring back players whose attention has lapsed. They're nice treats, and ones that are a touch rarer than most would like.

So when they arrive, and especially when devs say they'll dedicate themselves to it for a period of time, players make a show of appreciation for those efforts. And that's exactly what we see from the Helldivers community.

"Can’t wait to play again when the performance update hits!" Another comment on the video reads. "I couldn’t deal with my pc hard crashing all the time, so will be fun to come back."

The precise extent of these fixes will have to wait until Arrowhead has more to say on the matter, but it sounds like they're aiming for big, sweeping changes here.
