Final Fantasy 7: Revelation has been revealed, but not a lot of information has come with it so far. The mystery regarding what we'll see is meant to be part of the draw, so that we'll be surprised when actually playing the game and exploring a world that's both familiar and new.

Thanks to Gamescom, there's slightly more information about FF7 Revelation from an interview that IGN conducted with the game's director, Naoki Hamaguchi.

While some answers were basically that we'll have to just wait and see what happens in the last game, other answers to interview questions included confirmation that the Weapons will be included, and so will Chadley, unfortunately.

Chadley Has a New Role in FF7 Revelation

During the interview, Hamaguchi admits that he's aware of the players' reactions to Chadley in Rebirth, and that Chadley's primary role in that game was to guide the player to the various options for side content in the open world. However, Hamaguchi says that this role changes in Revelation, and Chadley will play an important role in the main story for this final part of the remake trilogy.

Hamaguchi says that this role changes in Revelation, and Chadley will play an important role in the main story.

Naturally, Hamaguchi didn't elaborate on what this means, and he didn't confirm or deny the theory that Chadley is planning to use all the battle data being collected to make himself more powerful than Sephiroth.

Regardless of what this role in the main story is, I know that there are plenty of players who aren't thrilled to hear this update, as Chadley being somewhat dismissible in Rebirth is what made him tolerable.

Updates About Exploring Gaia, the Weapons, and FITs Are More Exciting

Chadley wasn't the only topic in this interview, and the mention of his role only came up at the end because the interviewer asked about the theory of what Chadley plans to do with all the data being collected. The more interesting topics that were discussed included the ability to explore Gaia from the air and underwater, which adds a vertical element instead of limiting us to horizontal exploration, and how the Weapons are being featured.

The Weapons were created when Jenova crashed into the planet, damaging it. Their purpose is to keep the planet safe, so now that it's being threatened again, it makes sense that they make an appearance in Revelation just like they did in the original Final Fantasy 7. The question is which, if any, of the Weapons will be optional content, as Emerald and Ruby were optional bosses in the original game.

Hamaguchi also touched briefly on the FITs combat system. The FITs system is essentially the inclusion of outfits that you can equip on characters to change their job. There will only be four job options, but the idea of this system left some players concerned that the combat system would become too complicated, which is what the interviewer specifically brought up when talking to Hamaguchi. His response was that players don't need to worry about this at all, as the system will allow for more freedom in combat without making it complicated.

This new information adds to what we learned previously, such as the minigame formula for Revelations being different so that it doesn't feel like a repeat of Rebirth's content, and everything revealed reminds me why it took three games to remake FF7, and why remakes of other FF games done in a similar style could require even more parts.

So, while the idea of more Chadley isn't something I find thrilling, I'll admit that I'm still looking forward to the conclusion of this remake trilogy. A few annoying elements aren't enough to ruin a game, and I've played plenty of games that include sections I hated even when I enjoyed the rest. It's better to focus on all the positive elements and look forward to the experience of finishing the story of Cloud's group in Final Fantasy 7: Revelation.
