In the world of the Forgotten Realms within Baldur's Gate 3, you will be tasked with making some impossible decisions along to way. Whether you're trying to decide if you should spare the Nightsong or if you should kill the Dream Visitor, you're going to make some tough calls.
One thing that you have to decide on is if you want to start a romance with one of your companions during this time. While this may seem like a silly thing to do when the world is ending, maybe it will give your character the motivation they need to succeed. One NPC you can romance is Halsin.
Updated by Erin Rice on August 23, 2023: This update includes information regarding Halsin later in the game. It also includes some background information about him and some relevant links.
Where To Find Halsin
Halsin is the Wood Elf Druid that is actually the First Druid of Druid's Grove. This means that he is over everything that is happening within Druid's Grove. Unfortunately, Halsin went to investigate the Goblin Camp and never returned. His fellow Druids will beg you to go save him so that they won't have to deal with his replacement any longer. You'll need to make a choice here. You can either help the Druid's Grove out and save them or side with the Goblins. Siding with the Goblins will give you the companion Minthara; however, any hopes of having Halsin in your party are lost if you make this choice.
You can set out from the Druid's Grove and head straight to the Goblin Camp to save Halsin. Once you make it to the camp, you can find Halsin in the Warg Pens within the Shattered Sanctum. Once you free him, he will ask you to destroy the Goblin leaders so you can escape. If you take him with you, everyone in the camp will attack you on sight. If you go alone, you can sneak around and methodically take out each of the three Goblin leaders. Once this is done, Halsin will stay in your camp and be an option for romance. (Halsin is not a party member, he will only stand around in the camp.)
However, during Act 2, you will need to play your cards right if you want him to continue staying in the camp. Once you complete Act 2, he will say he needs to stay in the Shadow-Cursed Lands and rid the lands of the Shadow Curse. However, if you offer to help him, you can both travel to Last Light Inn and complete a short quest before he returns to your camp for good.
During Act III, there is a chance that Halsin will be taken hostage by Orin the Red, one of the main antagonists of the game. It seems that in order for this to happen, you will need Lae'zel in your party during Act III. If she is in the party, Orin will take Halsin hostage. If Lae'zel isn't in your party, she will become the hostage. This is important to note if you want to keep Halsin safe. (Though you can still rescue the hostage later.)
How To Romance Halsin
Halsin is much different than other members of your party. Since most romance options will be traveling companions, you will have an impact on how they perceive you all the time. However, Halsin stays in camp most of the time. This means that you will need to make major decisions that will encourage his love for you. Here are some options you can do to encourage this.
- Side with the Druids
- Flirt with Halsin the night after destroying the Goblin Camp
- Take his advice on how to get to the Shadow-Cursed Lands
- Help him rid the Shadow-Cursed Lands of the Shadow Curse
- If he is taken by Orin in Act 3, save him
While Halsin plays a much more passive role than most romance options, he is still a solid choice for anyone wanting to see what being with a Druid is like.
