Druids are one of the primary spellcasting classes in Baldur’s Gate 3. There are two distinct paths a Druid can take: Wild Shape or spells. If a Druid chooses Wild Shape as their primary mode of damage, they’re likely to choose the Circle of the Moon Subclass.

For spellcasting Druids, Circle of the Land or Circle of the Spores are more attractive options. But like all casters in the game, Druids need to pick and choose which spells deserve a spot on their spell list and which ones need to take a backseat.

10 Guidance

Great Utility Spell

guidance assisted roll in baldur's gate 3

One of the most useful Cantrips in the entire game, Guidance is a must-have for any party. On cast, this spell adds 1d4 extra dice roll to any ability check. Ability checks include persuasion, intimidation, athletics, and many more.

What makes Guidance particularly useful is that it doesn’t need to be precast before a dialogue forces an ability to check on you. Instead, you can pick and choose to have it cast on your character mid-conversation, making it extremely easy to use. And since it’s a cantrip, casting it doesn’t consume any spell slots.

9 Goodberry

Great Low-Level Heal

goodberry in baldur's gate 3

Healing in Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t happen without consuming resources like spell slots or potions. And while you’ll get plenty of potions to use as you explore the game, there is a more efficient way to heal your party if you have a Druid in your party.

Casting Goodberry creates four berries in your inventory that can be transferred between party members. Consuming a berry allows whoever eats it to heal for 1d4. Since these berries last until the next long rest, you can create the berries as soon as you wake up after a long rest and have the berries in your inventory until the next rest.

8 Healing Word

Great For Healing At Range

healing word in baldur's gate 3

At early levels, the Healing Word is going to be your most useful healing spell for hard encounters and single-target healing. While it doesn’t heal much on its own, it has two big things going for it.

One, it can be cast as a bonus action, meaning you can cast it and then do an action. For Druids, this means they can heal someone and transform into their favorite Wild Shape in the same turn. Healing Word is also a ranged spell, unlike Cure Wounds, which requires you to get into melee range.

7 Misty Step

Great To Escape Or Reposition

misty step in baldur's gate 3

Misty Step is a teleportation spell that can reposition a character without the possibility of an Attack of Opportunity. It can also be cast as a bonus action, making it incredibly efficient to use to reposition yourself.

Misty Step has a range of 18 meters, which is a massive area you can reposition in. It can even be used to gain altitude if you want to use the high-ground advantage to deal some guaranteed ranged damage.

6 Mirror Image

Great Defensive Boost

mirror image in baldur's gate 3

Mirror Image is a defensive spell that creates illusions or mirror images of your character that follow you around, boosting your AC. Each illusion adds 3 AC for a total of 9 extra AC at full strength.

When an attack on you misses, a single illusion dissipates, and you lose 3 AC as a result. Since Mirror Image doesn’t require concentration, it can be cast at any point in the fight as long as you have the spell slots to spare.

5 Hold Person

Great For Single-Target Control

hold person in baldur's gate 3

At least one member of your party needs to have access to Hold Person. Casting this spell on a humanoid locks it in place, and as long as that humanoid keeps failing its WIS saving throws, it remains locked in place for 10 turns, and every attack against it is a guaranteed crit.

If your Druid is taking up a supporting spellcaster role and not Wild Shaping in every fight, they will be excellent carriers of this spell. But remember that this spell only works on Humanoids and monsters, and it can’t target aberrations.

4 Moonbeam

Great For Persistent Damage

moonbeam in baldur's gate 3

For Druids focused on spellcasting, Moonbeam is an incredible concentration spell that deals massive damage. When cast, Moonbeam creates a beam of moonlight that persists in an area, damaging enemies for 2d10 radiant damage.

Every turn, you will have the opportunity to move the Moonbeam to a different location freely, damaging enemies it lands on. Spell slots are a scarce resource in BG3, and having a spell you can cast and reapply turn after turn for the same amount of damage without having to sacrifice a spell slot every time is insanely powerful.

3 Mass Cure Wounds

Great Area Of Effect Heal

mass cure wounds in baldur's gate 3

A level 5 evocation spell, Druids get Mass Cure Wounds fairly late into the game, but when they do, it’s an incredible healing tool to have in your arsenal. Casting this spell heals up to 6 of your allies by 3d8 plus your spell ability modifier. The spell can be upcast to heal even more if you have a higher-level spell slot to spare.

Think of Mass Cure Wounds as Prayer of Healing, but they can be cast mid-combat, increasing their utility massively. At later levels, having this spell on your Druid allows them to take on the role of the healer completely. You don’t need a Cleric anymore if you have a Druid with this spell in your party, freeing up your party slots for something else.

2 Wall Of Fire

Great AoE Damage/Area Denial Spell

Wall Of Fire in baldur's gate 3

Wall of Fire is a concentration spell that, when cast, creates a literal wall of infernal flames. The caster decides how wide the wall of fire is going to be, and they get complete freedom of placement as long as they’re within the maximum limit.

While it might appear somewhat limiting, you’ll be surprised how many enemies you can catch with only one Wall of Fire on the field. This spell also doubles as an area denial spell because, when positioned correctly, enemies will need to wade through the flame to reach your party.

1 Sunbeam

Great Damage/Control Combo Spell

sunbeam in baldur's gate 3

The upgraded version of Moonbeam, Sunbeam, does exactly what Moonbeam does but for massively more damage. It also has the ability to blind enemies that are hit by it, rendering them vulnerable if they fail their saving throws.

Once cast, the effects of Sunbeam persist as long as you maintain concentration. Cast it with a level 6 spell slot, and you can recast it on another location without having to expend a spell slot.
