About Monica Phillips
Monica is a writer, artist, musician, and indie game developer, loving all things related to video games. She’s a woman with a bit of adoration for every game genre. From her first experience with Kirby, to loving Sonic, then adoring Celeste, and going through the life-changing Outer Wilds, all types of games have become something more than just a game to her. She's all about finding new games to fall in love with, new genres to dive into thoroughly, and new experiences to attach to forever. She’s usually drawing characters from games, making videos about playing them, or writing about every little detail within them. She’s also interested in cooking and music outside of gaming and enjoys making the most out of every art form she can get her hands on. She’s always making different things that will pay tribute to the games that made her who she is, and trying new and exciting things is never a challenge and always an opportunity.
Industry Focus
I'm a writer for DualShockers, focusing on lists and guides, which fits in with my extensive experience making content covering games like Silksong, Sonic, and Celeste, though I'm not unfamiliar with the AAA+ space either.
First Game Console and Preferred Platforms
If it counts, I'd go with the Steam Deck, but that feels a bit cheaty, so in terms of consoles that aren't a PC in a cool form factor, I'm pretty partial to the Nintendo Switch. The library of games they've built over the years has been incredible, and the console itself feels great to use. Though I primarily prefer PC, I'll still happily play games on Switch or PS4.
Favorite Games and Genres
Choosing my favorite games is always tricky because I know many games that have irrevocably changed my life, I usually go with the ones that had the biggest impact on me. That said, those would be Outer Wilds, Celeste, Undertale, Terraria, and Super Mario Galaxy.
