Overview
The graduate program in Environment, Development and Sustainability (EDS), Chulalongkorn University is unique among post-graduate degrees in Thailand and Asia-Pacific. It provides an integrated approach to the field of Sustainable Development (environmental and socio-economic) and relevant aspects. This is in response to Thailand’s Twelfth National Economic and Social Development Plan (2017-2021) which is designed based on the 20-year National Strategy framework (2017- 2036) and the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to achieve “Security, Prosperity, and Sustainability” as part of the Thailand 4.0 national policy.
In this context, instead of focusing only on environment and development studies, EDS also covers research areas such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their Challenges, business and trade strategies for environmental management, self sufficiency economy, energy planning, poverty reduction, natural resource management, sustainable consumption and production, waste management, green building, and urban development in addition to core climate change mitigation, resilience and adaptation even as all ecosystem related topics like green Industry, soil degradation, biological diversity, pollution, and so on.
The EDS Program’s objective is to broaden the horizons of students to integrate their studies across various sub-disciplines in both the natural and social sciences so that their results lead to sound public policy and good governance in driving the SDGs in all national, regional and global levels.

Thailand’s Best University
Chulalongkorn University has been ranked as Thailand’s best university, according to the Best Global Universities 2020 ranking by U.S. News & World Report, while being the 522nd best university in the world, the 81st in Asia, and 6th in Southeast Asia. Chula also ranked first in the nation in three subjects: Chemistry, Material Science, and Physics and came in second for Biology and Biochemistry, Clinical Medicine, Engineering, and Immunology.

Internationally-Renowned Team of Professors
The courses are taught by leading researchers and experts in the fields, who are at the forefront of global, regional, and local scales of development. Students will get to share experiences with experts working with groups as large as the United Nations and as small as community-driven initiatives.

Students will have access to leading research facilities such as Chula’s Social Research Institute, Environmental Research Institute, as well as other state-of-the-art and well-equipped research facilities.

Qualification of applicants
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline;
- Other particular qualifications will be based on the approval of the program committee;
- An English proficiency test score of at least 60 on CU-TEP, 5.0 on IELTS, or 500 on TOEFL.
Required Documents:
- A one-page statement of intent in English (~200 words), describing present activities, publications, research interests, academic achievements, and future plans;
- A printed application form with a 1-inch photograph attached;
- An official transcript of academic records;
- A photocopy of identification card/passport;
- An English proficiency test score: CU-TEP, IELTS or TOEFL;
- Two letters of recommendation.
