On Mar. 13, 2025, Konami hosted another SILENT HILL Transmission. Over the past few years, these live streams have become one of the main ways fans can get detailed updates about ongoing Silent Hill projects. The first SILENT HILL Transmission happened in Oct. 2022, when Konami announced multiple new Silent Hill projects, including the Silent Hill 2 remake, a new Silent Hill movie, a teaser for Silent Hill f, and much more.
Some of these announcements have already come to fruition, like the remake Silent Hill 2, which came out in Oct. 2024 and was met with critical and commercial success. The most recent SILENT HILL Transmission focused exclusively on the upcoming Silent Hill f, a brand-new entry into the Silent Hill franchise. This article will cover all the important details from the livestream that fans need to know.
Konami Revealed a New Silent Hill f Trailer
A Brand-New Silent Hill Game Set in Japan
The SILENT HILL Transmission starts with a new trailer for the upcoming Silent Hill f. This trailer gives fans a closer look at what to expect from the newest Silent Hill game. While it does share many elements with more traditional Silent Hill installments, it also noticeably stands out for a few different reasons.
The trailer emphasizes the classic Silent Hill fog and the main character shifting between planes of reality that mimic the Fog World and the Otherworld that exists throughout the Silent Hill franchise. At the same time, Silent Hill f is Silent Hill like never before. The game doesn't take place in the town of Silent Hill. This isn't the first game to change the setting.
"Friends don't last forever. They will betray you, eventually."
Silent Hill 4: The Room (2004), for example, takes place in a fictional town called Ashfield. The game's developers wanted to emphasize that Silent Hill wasn't just a location. The power of Silent Hill could be anywhere and everywhere. Silent Hill f seems to be following this trend, but unlike most of the other installments in the franchise, which take place in the United States, this game is actually set in Japan.
The trailer also reveals a departure from Silent Hill's normal motif. Silent Hill f still seems to cycle through the Fog World and the Otherworld, but the new game features a strangely beautiful aesthetic. The trailer is full of gorgeous red and pink foliage that seems to consume everything, even people.
The way the foliage overtakes everything is horrific, but still oddly stunning to look at, which acts as a stark contrast to Silent Hill's normal MO. Silent Hill f still manages to weave in the graphic and disturbing imagery that Silent Hill is known for, while presenting a new and unique look that helps it stand out even more from the other games.
After the Silent Hill f trailer played, MC Chihiro Yoshizaki, one of the SILENT HILL Transmission hosts, announced that Silent Hill f can now be wishlisted across all platforms. Unfortunately, an exact release date still hasn't been confirmed, but now that the game is showing up in various online stores, it can't be far off.

Everything the Silent Hill Transmission Revealed About Silent Hill f
Players Have a Lot to Look Forward To

Silent Hill f's Theme, Story, & Protagonist
Motoi Okamoto, the producer of the Silent Hill series and co-host of the SILENT HILL Transmission, describes the concept of Silent Hill f as finding the beauty in terror. Okamoto assured fans that Silent Hill f would retain core Silent Hill elements. The game is still going to be a psychological horror game, but it is the first Silent Hill game to be set in Japan. The setting isn't the only major change this new installment will bring to the franchise, either. With a Japanese setting, the game will heavily lean on Japanese themes and ideology as well.
"A noticeable feature of Japanese horror is the idea that terror can be found within beauty. When something becomes too immensely beautiful and perfect, it instead becomes deeply unsettling. And so, players will experience this world through the eyes of a young girl who is faced with a beautiful yet terrifying decision. We want them to experience how these contrasting elements co-exist."
- Motoi Okamoto on the concept of making Silent Hill f beautiful
To really emphasize the Japanese horror elements of Silent Hill f, Konami brought a new scriptwriter on board, Ryukishi07. This is Ryukishi07's first Silent Hill project, but he is a famous Japanese horror writer best known for creating the When They Cry series. Ryukishi07 describes Silent Hill as two different concepts: a physical location with a dark and mysterious past, and a concept that revolves around the ongoing battle that happens inside a person.
"Silent Hill is also about portraying characters' struggles with the evil within themselves, sin, discontent, and conflict in a visually striking way. It's a gateway into the psychological battles of the human mind." - Ryukishi07
Ryukishi07 points out that while the game is not set in the titular town of Silent Hill, it is still very much a Silent Hill game because it keeps in line with this theme. At the end of the day, this concept sits at Silent Hill's core, so Silent Hill can exist even outside the infamous town.
Ryukishi07 also emphasizes that any time a female character shows up in a Silent Hill game, she experiences endless suffering, so he wanted his main character to have the chance to make her own decisions. Her decisions might make things better or worse, but Ryukishi07 was insistent that he didn't want his female protagonist to be pulled along by the narrative. He wanted her to "find her own answers."
To help Ryukishi07's story come to life visually, Konami recruited artist kera to design the creatures and characters of the game. It was important to kera to keep past Silent Hill games in mind. Silent Hill f needed to feature beautiful and terrifying monsters that were different to past installments, while still feeling like it belongs in the franchise. This was no simple task, but Ryukishi07 and Motoi Okamoto both felt that kera's designs nailed the overall theme they were going for.
Silent Hill f's Setting & Soundtrack
As mentioned, Silent Hill f is the first game in the series to take place in Japan. During the livestream, Motoi Okamoto confirmed that the game is set in a rural Japanese town in the 1960s. Silent Hill f takes place in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, which is based on a real Japanese town, Kanayama, Gero, in the Gifu Prefecture. To prepare for the game, the team visited the town to photograph and record the town's day-to-day activity. Ryukishi07 was inspired by Kanayama's labyrinth-like alleyways, citing it as an incredibly unique townscape that filled him with inspiration.
While Silent Hill f did bring in a lot of fresh talent, it does still feature work from some of the most iconic names in the Silent Hill franchise. Notably, composer Akira Yamaoka is returning to work on the Silent Hill f soundtrack. Akira Yamaoka has worked on many Silent Hill projects dating back to the original 1999 game.
He returned for the Silent Hill 2 remake too, so long-term fans couldn't be more excited. In Silent Hill f, Yamaoka's work will mostly be featured as music for the Fog World portions of the game. Yamaoka explained that he included Japanese elements in his music, but he wanted everyone to be able to enjoy the game and experience the terror. Even players without knowledge of Japanese culture will still understand the emotion his music is trying to present.
Kensuke Inage will be providing music for the Otherworld portions of the game. In Silent Hill f, the Otherworld will be known by a new name, "the Dark Shrine." Inage took inspiration from Japanese shrine imagery and classic Japanese music to create a beautiful and unsettling score.
"I have composed music for an unsettling yet beautiful world that uses imagery from shrines, blending ancient Japanese court music with ambient echoes. I wove in various techniques that will connect the player to the protagonist's agony, internal conflict, fear, and other emotions."
- Kenuke Inage explains how he came up with the Otherworld's soundtrack
Other Important Details About Silent Hill f
The main reason the creative team wanted to set Silent Hill f in Japan was that they felt the series lost its Japanese influence over the years. Silent Hill was always supposed to be a blend of Japanese horror and Western horror, which helped it stand out as a unique experience in comparison to other survival horror games. The games all take place in the U.S., but they maintained Japanese elements in earlier installments. The team felt the franchise had become too Westernized, so they decided to turn the game on its head and set it in Japan.
Silent Hill f is a completely independent story. Aside from the Silent Hill influences, there is nothing connecting this story to other Silent Hill stories. Okamoto assured gamers that even players who have never touched another Silent Hill game can pick this game up, play it, and enjoy it without feeling like they're out of the loop. That said, the game will feature plenty of Silent Hill Easter eggs, themes, and overall vibes that long-term fans will love.
