Disney Hires Away Nike Marketer For Consumer-Products Division

Walt Disney Co. shook up one of its weakest operating units, naming a veteran marketing executive from Nike Inc. president of its consumer-products division.

In naming Andrew P. Mooney president of Walt Disney Consumer Products Worldwide, Disney seemed to acknowledge the need for a more cutting-edge approach to marketing its branded merchandise. Mr. Mooney, 44 years old, is chief marketing officer and head of global apparel at Nike, whose brand has largely maintained its cachet over time. Disney merchandise has suffered under the growing perception that it has gone stale.
