Global food prices remain significantly high. The Black Sea Grain Initiative is a crucial part of the global response to the #FoodCrisis. Since its signing, WFP has moved over 380,000 MT of wheat from Ukraine to our operations in #Ethiopia, #Yemen, #Afghanistan and #Somalia.
WFP loads its first vessel "Brave Commander" in Pivdennyi port, Odesa, in August 2022. The WFP-chartered vessel "Brave Commander" is the first humanitarian cargo vessel to arrive in Ukraine's Black Sea Ports since the start of the war, under the recent Black Sea Grain initiative.
WFP grain is offloaded as it arrives at Hodeidah port coming from Ukraine for humanitarian response in Yemen. The first ship, the “MV Brave Commander” berthed in Hodeidah port on 15 October carrying 14,000 MT of Ukrainian wheat flour milled in Turkey. The total amount of grain arriving will support nearly 4 million people in Yemen for one cycle and help WFP address immediate gaps in assistance.

1 in 3 people in #SriLanka is food insecure amid an economic crisis. Skyrocketing prices, shortages, and income losses pushed nutritious food out of reach for many, like Minabige and her daughter. WFP is working to reach 3.4 million people with food and nutrition support.
Minabige, 49, feed her daughter Darhika, 9, on the steps of their home in Sri Lanka. With her husband and two daughters, the family of four live in a cramped one room shack. Amid the economic crisis, women and children from poor rural and urban households who rely on national social safety net programmes have been left without help.

One-year-old Zamira is getting closer to green 💚 In the face of record climate extremes, WFP nutrition assistance has been critical to keep Zamira - and 50,000 other children like her - on the right track in #Pakistan.
The arm of one-year-old Zamira is measured using a mid-upper arm circumference tape. She is enrolled in a WFP-supported nutrition programme for young children and mothers in Pakistan.

🆕 Famine in #Somalia is being kept at bay according to new assessments. WFP has assisted more people in Somalia than ever before, but the situation remains critical. Immediate assistance must be sustained while investments in recovery and sustainable resilience are needed.
Nuuriya, 30, feeds her 2-year-old baby Mohammed a packet of nutrition supplement at a WFP-supported clinic in Somalia. Nuuriya travelled to Baidoa after all of her livestock died due to the drought. She has ten children, but was only able to bring the four youngest with her while the oldest stayed behind with their father. The drought in Somalia has forced 1 million people to leave their homes in search of support.

Rising food and fuel prices led to growing unrest this year that's plunged #Haiti into chaos. In October, for the first time ever, catastrophe-level hunger was reported in the country. Amid multiple security challenges, WFP continues to support vulnerable Haitians.
A WFP helicopter is seen transporting essential supplies and humanitarian passengers in Haiti. The highly volatile security situation puts critical humanitarian operations at risk. WFP uses vessels and maritime routes as an alternative to sending aid to the south and north by sea, while WFP-led UNHAS provides safe passage by air for humanitarian responders.

In November, WFP resumed delivery of food and other lifesaving supplies into Tigray for the first time since the signing of the peace agreement. Fighting had created a three-month break in assistance. 13.6 million people across northern #Ethiopia need urgent support.

#Somalia is being ravaged by the longest drought in four decades, which forced over 1 million people to flee their homes this year. WFP has reached more people in Somalia than ever before, but as the drought continues, famine remains an imminent threat.
18-month-old Mohammed Aden sits for his mid-upper arm measurement at a WFP-supported nutrition clinic in Somalia. He and his mom came from Baidoa, one of the most drought-affected regions in the country contributing to some of the highest rates of malnutrition. The drought wiped out the family’s crops and they were forced to leave their home to find assistance.

Devastating floods also wreaked havoc across West and Central Africa, affecting 5 million people, like Amina in #Nigeria, pictured. The disaster came during a record year of hunger in the region, where 35 million people are unable to meet their basic food and nutrition needs.
Amina, 45, points to damage as she looks out over flooded lands in Yobe State, Nigeria. The floods impacted a staggering five million people in 19 countries across West and Central Africa, and is one of the deadliest disasters the region has seen in years. WFP teams on the ground supported national governments to help flood-hit families with immediate food and cash assistance.

The floods in #Pakistan this year triggered a cascade of crises. The number of people facing severe food insecurity more than doubled. WFP has assisted over 2.4 million people with lifesaving assistance. But long-term investments are badly needed to help communities rebuild.

A ceasefire was brokered for the first time in #Yemen in June, where prolonged conflict has created a seismic hunger crisis. WFP touches the lives of more than half of Yemen’s population, but massive funding shortfalls have forced us to suspend or reduce assistance this year.

Skyrocketing prices and broken supply chains crippled #SriLanka's economy this year and led to cuts in national safety nets like school meals and nutrition for pregnant women like Keshala, pictured. WFP supports 3.4 million of the most vulnerable people impacted.
Keshala, 26, stands in the doorway of her home, that she shares with her husband, child, and in-laws. She was six-months pregnant with her second child when the crisis in Sri Lanka hit its peak in June. Keshala became extremely anemic, making her pregnancy especially dangerous, at a time when rising inflation made it hard to afford healthy food and the national nutrition programme was disrupted by the crisis.
