Hey friends here's a first draft of notes on what I've learned working at home with a small child and not much childcare for six years. It's not a list of links to curricula. Bring on the questions and complaints.

Been waiting for this story. Given what we know about Amazon warehouse conditions why would we not already treat it as a vector?

Also? Teachers are AMAZING, critically important humans. But they don't necessarily know a goddamn thing about working and learning at home with kids and jobs and a pandemic. Do not let anyone guilt you right now.

It's honestly super irresponsible to put that kind of anxiety on parents right now. Your kids aren't going to be learning if you're all stressed af, and if you push schedules and apps super hard at first, you risk making them feel hate all of it.

Hey Suddenly Homeschoolers, please resist messages suggesting that your kids will suffer irreparable damage if you give yourselves a week to just love each other and bulid sustainable routines and get used to the new normal.

The 4pm update is now locked in. We show: 41,552 total people tested 4,019 positive 35,840 negative 1,691 pending Reminder we can't track every negative test, so be very careful trying to calculate positive test rates. Make sure you read the notes:

None of this is intended to be a gotcha or, like, shade. I had my life unexpectedly cleared and rebooted last year and I love you and I want you to offer reassurance that grief and anger and disorientation a.) are perfectly reasonable responses and b.) won't last forever.

Anything you can do to be in your body is good when you're getting your priorities and worldview forcibly re-sorted. Exercise, meditation, hot bath, fire-escape sunshine, middle-of-the night anxiety running, whatever does it for you.
