Congratulations, John Oliver, on the koala chlamydia ward named after you
By Johnny LieuSo a few weeks ago, Last Week Tonight's John Oliver hit the headlines for buying a whole bunch of Russell Crowe memorabilia.
The auction of stuff included, of all things, the backs of seats sat on by famous people like Denzel Washington and Crowe, a vest from Les Misérables, and a jockstrap worn by Crowe in Cinderella Man.
Crowe amassed more than $3 million in sales at the auction, which you'd assume would go straight to his coffers.
But not so fast: The actor ended up donating that money to a koala chlamydia ward at Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo, after promising on Twitter that Oliver's "random act of kindness is going to be honoured in a cool way."
I think this is such a wonderful random act of kindness that I am planning now on how to best use the @iamjohnoliver money he spent on groin protectors and such .
Given his often shown genuine love for Australians and Australia , it’s got to be something special . https://t.co/NcziHy5A2H— Russell Crowe (@russellcrowe) April 17, 2018
I’ve had a eureka moment on how to use @iamjohnoliver from @LastWeekTonight auction money . His random act of kindness is going to be honoured in such a cool way .
Yes, no surprise, it will involve wildlife . @rickygervais @jimjefferies @jimmycarr @edsheeran @edwina_b— Russell Crowe (@russellcrowe) April 18, 2018
Australia Zoo, made famous by Irwin before his tragic death, and now looked after by his family including Terri, Bindi and Robert, posted a video thanking Crowe for the donation.
And if you skip to the end of the video, you'll find out that the ward has been named after John Oliver. Complete with a plaque.

"That may honestly be the greatest thing I've ever seen," Oliver said on Sunday's episode of Last Week Tonight. He then told viewers he was shutting down the show because there's nothing else to achieve.
It's true. How can you top this?
