The Office for Global Engagement (OGE) provides campus-wide leadership and coordination in support of University of Utah global initiatives, partnerships, and programs. Our mission is to facilitate transformative global learning, innovative scholarship, and cross-cultural engagement opportunities for all students and faculty, and to promote intercultural competence and understanding. OGE provides the infrastructure for the University to become a hub of collaboration across academic disciplines and with partnering organizations to transform teaching and learning, scholarship, and service in the context of addressing pressing issues in a complex and interconnected world.

Professor Cheyney Ryan is the Director of the Oxford Human Rights Consortium, and works with the Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict, where he is engaged in a multi-year project exploring the relation of pacifism and non-violence to contemporary just war theory. He focuses on the philosophical and historical contexts of these perspectives; he is interested in both their secular and religious forms. His aim is to develop the pacifist alternative in ways that are sensitive to the contemporary reality and challenges of war.

Students who participated in the prestigious Oxford Human Rights Consortium at the University of Oxford will present a panel recounting their experience and perspectives on peace building and violent conflict.
The University of Utah now partners with the Oxford Human Rights Consortium to offer a week-long student workshop in March at the University of Oxford. Areas of study include human rights in and after conflict, humanitarian actions, conflict trends, human rights law and peacemaking with a focus on recent armed conflict. U Students meet four times before Spring Break with the Faculty Mentor Deen Chatterjee of the S.J. Quinney College of Law to discuss assigned readings and research plans. The workshop is led by the Oxford faculty and features prominent guest speakers. Chatterjee travels with the students as a member of the workshop teaching team. Students stay at Hertford College and the workshop is held in Merton College, which is one of the three oldest of 38 Oxford colleges.
