Nexus One vs iPhone 3GS
Here is a head to head comparison between the iPhone 3GS and the upcoming Google phone named as Nexus One. For those of you who don’t know, Nexus One been designed by the folks at Google, and the hardware is manufactured by HTC. Nexus One will be powered by the latest version of Android OS and will be sold online by Google, fully unlocked so that you can use it with any carrier you like. It will look alot like HTC Passion/Bravo which is also slated for early 2010 release.
Below is a quick showdown between the two handsets, showing how the popular iPhone 3GS stands against all the information that we know about the Google Nexus One.

The Google Nexus One specs listed above may not match the actual product which is scheduled to launch early next year. But it will be around those lines from all the info that we have gathered from the test devices which Google has handed over to its employees.

Nexus One vs. iPhone 3GS
Some have speculated that the Google Nexus One is an iPhone beater handset, but is it really? Well the guys over at ibtimes have delved into this and have come up with a face off battle between the iconic iPhone 3GS and the Nexus One.
First off they compare sizes, with the iPhone 3GS being 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3mm with a weight of 135 grams, while the Nexus One measures 119 x 59.8 x 11.5mm weighing in at 130 grams. They conclude here that it is a tie due to not a significant difference in size and weight.
On to the display and the iPhone 3GS offers a 3.5 inch capacitive multi-touch screen at 480 x 320 pixel resolution. The Nexus One delivers a 3.7 inch WVGA AMOLED display, which they say the Nexus One wins here due to a larger screen, although there is no multi-touch it can offer higher resolution.
Next comes the camera and video recording with the iPhone 3GS having a 3.15 megapixel camera with auto-focus but lacks zoom and flash. The Nexus One packs a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, LED flash and 2x digital zoom, thus the Nexus One wins on this score.
On to wireless and connectivity with both handsets being quad-band GSM, 3G/GPRS/EDGE/WiFi and Bluetooth, but in this case the Nexus One wins due to Google including a microUSB port which the iPhone 3GS doesn’t have.
Then there’s the operating system, the iPhone 3GS runs Apple’s proprietary iPhone OS 3.0 while the Nexus One runs Google’s Android 2.1 OS which they conclude that as the iPhone OS is probably the biggest drawback to the iPhone, the Nexus One wins again.
Next we have the processor; the iPhone 3GS packs an ARM Cortex A8 600MHz, while the Nexus One packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor, thus the Google phone wins as it is “blazingly faster.”
As for the browser, will the iPhone 3GS sports Safari and the Nexus One sports a webkit browser, and as the Nexus One webkit browser supports Flash based web pages and JavaScript it wins again.
When it comes to music and video though, the iPhone 3GS comes out the winner as although both handsets come with a media player which supports multiple video and audio playback, the iPhone can also double as an iPod.
On to memory and yes you guessed it the Nexus One wins this one due to it incorporating microSD expansion unlike the iPhone 3GS.
As for features they call it a tie as both the iPhone 3GS and Nexus One are packed with rich features. Finally they come to their verdict which is that the Nexus One beats the iPhone 3GS by 8 to 1. But the true test will come when the Nexus One is out and about with the public.
HTC Sense for Windows Mobile 7?
Soon after the news which confirmed the official upgrade path of Windows Mobile 7 for HTC HD2, folks over at XDA have dug deep and found out some references made to Windows Mobile 7 in the latest HTC Sense 2.5 Build 1922. This version of HTC Sense is from the leaked version of T-Mobile US 2.01 ROM for HTC HD2.
if HomeMachineStatus.WM7Device.Value then IsWindowsMobile7Device = true PredefineItem = 1 HomeItemCollection = HomeManager:GetHomeCollection(1) else IsWindowsMobile7Device = false PredefineItem = 0 HomeItemCollection = HomeManager:GetHomeCollection() end
“WM7Device” and “IsWindowsMobile7Device” checks in the code above clearly shows that HTC is already working on a Windows Mobile 7 version of HTC Sense that will ship on handsets in Q4 2010. [via MobileTechWorld]

Windows Mobile 7 Confirmed for HTC HD2
Last month, we informed you about the possibility of HTC HD2 getting Windows Mobile 7 upgrade. But now according to a tweet posted by HTC’s Russian twitter account, it looks like HTC HD2 has been confirmed to get Windows Mobile 7 upgrade when it is released in Q3/Q4 of 2010. Translated version of the tweet is as follows.
@ StalkerZoner for Diamond 2 firmware is not planned.Of the existing communicators on the market, only HD2 firmware to get WM7.

This makes sense because HD2 is the first phone which meets all the hardware chassis requirements laid out by Microsoft for a phone which will be powered by Windows Mobile 7, including support for multi-touch through its massive 4.3’’ capacitive display.
For those of you who don’t know, HTC HD2 is powered by Windows Mobile 6.5 and is the first Windows phone to feature multi-touch support through HTC Sense (aka HTC TouchFLO 3D 2.5). Hardware wise, HD2 is by far the most powerful phone available in the market with Qualcomm’s new 1Ghz Snapdragon mobile processor which delivers enough power for a great responsive and smoother end-user experience.
So if you are holding off from buying this powerful handset just because it runs on Windows Mobile 6.5, Now you don’t have to since HTC has now confirmed that the said handset will be upgradable to Windows Mobile 7 for free when it comes out next year. [hat tip @manan; via Pocketnow]
