This is the kind of capability that keeps networks running, gets kit where it needs to be, and ultimately underpins everything else we talk about in telecom transformation. Not just for insight, but for action… Agents, automation and decisioning systems all depend on timely, reliable data flowing across the organisation. For telecom operators, this is particularly relevant. Networks, OSS/BSS, customer platforms and partner ecosystems generate huge volumes of event driven data. The challenge has never been access to data, it’s been moving, integrating and acting on it fast enough to make a difference operationally. That’s where this becomes interesting, especially for webMethods Hybrid Integration users. Many operators already rely on WebMethods to connect complex estates. Bringing real time streaming more tightly into that integration layer creates the potential to move from batch and reactive processes to event-driven operations. Steve Green shared thisThe expanded collaboration between IBM and NVIDIA is another signal of where enterprise AI is heading… Less about experimentation, more about running AI workloads efficiently at scale. For telecom operators, that matters. AI is already being used across network operations, customer platforms and automation. The challenge now is not access to models or GPUs, it’s how those workloads are deployed, managed and optimised across hybrid environments without driving up cost. GPU heavy architectures introduce a new dimension to cost control. If utilisation is poor or workloads are not aligned properly, costs escalate quickly. If managed well, they can significantly improve decision speed, automation and operational efficiency. That’s where this kind of collaboration becomes relevant. Bringing together infrastructure, data and AI tooling in a way that helps organisations use compute more effectively, not just consume more of it. What’s particularly encouraging is seeing early career talent building real demos and thinking about these problems so early in their careers. In telecoms the “plants” are networks, applications and services supporting millions of customers. If you can’t see what’s happening across that estate in real time, you’re always reacting rather than preventing. That would be crazy, right? Well, that's exactly what Steven Atkinson and I are doing... Imagine: You are growing a selection of plants, and you think you're doing great! You water them when you can You put them in the sun (or lack of sun, here in the UK 😂) You might even add some nutrients to the compost if you're a pro 😎 But the plants still grow slowly, wither away, or die. ⁉️ Why - You didn't have observability... - You weren't clearly alerted when your plants were suffering, or proactively warned about future problems. - You didn't see all the factors influencing the growth of your plants, so you couldn't identify the root cause of issues. - Even if you see a problem emerge, you are already too late. Now, imagine if you had observability to help grow your plants: - You'd have colour-coded 'warning' lights flashing when issues crop up - You'd be told when one of your plant growth factors deviates outside of its optimal range - You'd automatically change the allocation of resources, directing them from plants that are growing optimally, to the plants that aren't Now, these plants aren't just plants... Whether integrating networks, platforms or digital services, bringing together multiple technology estates creates immediate challenges around visibility, performance and cost control. That is where observability and resource optimisation become critical. Being able to see clearly across hybrid infrastructure, applications and services and then dynamically align resources to actual demand helps operators stabilise operations faster, avoid unnecessary overprovisioning and control cost during periods of change. This was a theme that came through strongly in conversations at Mobile World Congress last week; as operators push further into cloud native platforms, AI driven automation and distributed architectures, the ability to understand system behaviour in real time and translate that insight into smarter resource decisions is becoming foundational. Steve Green shared thisAs Zygmunt says; Quantum computing is getting most of the attention here in Barcelona… but for telecom operators and Enterprises, the more immediate issue is post quantum cryptography… Networks, platforms and customer services rely heavily on existing cryptographic standards, and transitioning those environments to quantum safe security will take years. Great to see so many operators starting to think about cryptographic agility across infrastructure, OSS/BSS and enterprise services. The transition to quantum safe security will take time, so early planning really matters! Operators and vendors showcasing quantum computing for telecom. Plus quantum networking and of course Post-Quantum Cryptography. The IBM Quantum System 2 at the entrance to hall 2 is getting a lot of attention. Everyone wants a selfie, but a lot of people want to know how it works and what it does. And what are the telecom use cases? Telefónica have an IQM Quantum Computers system on their stand in hall 3, plus an IBM system used for a Post-Quantum Cryptography key management service for enterprise customers in Spain. Telefonica see themselves and other operators as well placed to offer Quantum computing services from the cloud. Remember Spain has a national strategy to deploy multiple quantum computers, including the IBM System Two already running in the Basque region. China Telecom Global have a hologram of a quantum chandelier (which make air transport easier). They are working with Jian-Wei Pan’s team to offer quantum computing as a service. They also have plans for a nationwide quantum information network and PQC. NTT are showing an optical quantum computer. (It’s a very nice demo which captures the essence of the technology). A real optical table weights 1000 kg and is .. challenging .. to ship Several dedicated quantum technology companies in Hall including Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech and Toshiba Networks. Plus Arqit, Quside, Data-Warehouse GmbH The GSMA PQTN task force is also running two seminars on Post-Quantum Cryptography in telecom this week too. The cuts appear to have affected employees globally, but the full extent of the layoffs could not be immediately learned.
