About

Lila is an engineer, venture capitalist, tech executive, board member, and mom to twin daughters. Her 30+ year career in technology is defined by mission meeting the moment. Currently, she serves as Google DeepMind’s first-ever Chief AI Readiness Officer. Her remit includes helping prepare the world for more powerful & capable AI; leading the Frontier AI Global Affairs team, Strategic Initiatives & Public Engagement Lab, GDM’s Impact Accelerator, and the Responsibility team.

For eight years, as Google DeepMind’s founding COO, she built the operational foundation that helped scale the organization to where it is today. Her teams also pioneered efforts to embed responsible innovation early into the development of AI tools. This commitment led TIME Magazine to recognize Lila among its inaugural list of AI’s 100 Most Influential People.

Previously, Lila held senior positions at Coursera, Kleiner Perkins, and Intel. In those roles, she gained extensive professional experience in emerging markets, including the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, and Asia, where she lived and worked for seven years. Lila also co-founded and is Chair Emeritus at Team4Tech, an education non-profit that builds computing infrastructure and capacity to teach technology to under-resourced communities globally.

Lila grew up in the Midwest and brings common-sense values to her work advancing cutting-edge technology.
