The UK Government’s £1billion investment in zero-emission trucks, vans and depot charging is a significant step forward for fleet electrification. But funding alone won’t deliver the transition. The real challenge now is execution, designing and delivering infrastructure that works in live operational environments, scales with demand and performs over the long term. As the conversation shifts from ambition to delivery, our NG Bailey EV infrastructure team are supporting organisations in thinking beyond vehicles and taking a more integrated view of infrastructure, energy and operations. In our latest insight, Alex Chilvers, EV Strategy Director, and Darren Slade, Operations Director, explore what it takes to turn policy into real-world progress. We are pleased to announce that NG Bailey Group has acquired Engineering Solutions Group (ESG), a specialist engineering group operating across the water, environmental and wider infrastructure sectors. The acquisition, which supports our growth strategy, will strengthen our existing expertise in infrastructure delivery, as well as give us greater access to the water infrastructure market. ESG, which is headquartered in Sutton-In-Ashfield, has been operating since 1989. At its heart sits ECS Engineering Services Ltd (ECS), ESG’s largest and most established business, supported by three complementary group companies, with expertise covering mechanical and electrical engineering, specialist steel and composite fabrication, civil engineering, and the supply of advanced water control products via exclusive European partnerships. Jonathan Stockton, Chief Executive of NG Bailey, said: “Bringing ESG into the NG Bailey Group is a decision which makes both strategic and commercial sense as we continue to deliver our Journey to 2030 business plan. “The acquisition provides a natural extension to our existing range of services and strengthens both our market positions, whilst opening up new growth opportunities for us in key areas including water infrastructure.” Mark Watkins Managing Director of ESG, added: “This transaction marks an exciting milestone for us, which over the last four decades has become a well-established, successful business with a strong market presence. “Being part of NG Bailey allows us to combine our strengths and create something genuinely more powerful, for our people, partners and the markets we operate in.” Learn more here 👉https://ow.ly/2JI850YBb9o

🔌 We’re thrilled to share that the new bp pulse EV forecourt at Tingley Roundabout in Leeds is officially open, marking an exciting milestone in supporting EV drivers across the region. As principal contractor, we’ve delivered this major new hub in Leeds in partnership with bp pulse. This project required careful coordination around existing gas, HV & LV power, communications, and drainage infrastructure serving the wider Leeds area - a challenge overcome through strong collaboration and engineering expertise. Built on a previously overgrown site, the new forecourt now offers: - 10 Alpitronic HYC400 ultra-fast chargers serving 19 bays - Dedicated pull-through bay for larger, hitched vehicles - 3 Bluetop EV canopies - New DNO connection and on-site substation - Retail buildings ready for fit out. Standing as our second project together, following the successful delivery of bp pulse’s first UK all-electric charging and convenience hub in London, we’re excited to see the positive impact this new site will have in supporting the local community. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this project to life! 👏

This #IWD2026, the Give to Gain campaign challenges us all to help create a more equal future. It is well documented that the built environment sector still has underrepresentation of women and minority groups with only approximately 17% of women making up the UK’s engineering and technology workforce. That’s why we’re investing in the next generation of engineers through early career pathways and development programmes. Our engineering your future programme encourages young people to explore STEM, with a focus on attracting more girls and young women to engineering. In 2025 alone, we supported over 7,800 young people through STEM learning and employability experiences. Recently, we took part in a Girls Do STEM events in Inverness which showed the real impact of our work - pupils engineered their own mini wind turbines with colleagues from our Freedom team during hands-on discovery sessions. Help us to change the narrative! We have different career options available through our apprenticeship and year in industry placement programmes with roles ranging from BIM technician, electrician, high voltage fitter and quantity surveyor through to electrical design, digital content, network cable installer and much more. You can find out more about these opportunities on our website: Apprenticeship opportunities https://bit.ly/49MSUI3 Industry placement opportunities https://bit.ly/4kzwVt2 Together, we want to inspire, empower, and create a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive in engineering.
