Denim Deal Days London brought together brands, mills, innovators and partners for a day full of honest exchange, fresh connections and real momentum around circular denim. From Denim Deal approved fabrics containing 20% post-consumer cotton to the technologies helping move the industry forward, this was a strong reminder that progress happens when the right people come together. Three worlds. Three agendas. Zero alignment. That's why fashion keeps failing at transformation. Politicians pushing sustainability reforms on electoral cycles. Mills and manufacturers absorbing cost pressure with margins already at the bone. Brands chasing growth and quarterly numbers while consumers keep buying — more, faster, cheaper. These three worlds don't speak the same language. They don't share the same timeline. And they definitely don't share the same risk. So every time a regulation lands, it gets absorbed, delayed, or diluted. Every time a brand commits to circularity, procurement quietly renegotiates the price. Every time a mill invests in sustainable infrastructure, a cheaper alternative wins the order. The cracks aren't accidental. They're structural. Last week at Denim Deal Days in London, we engaged with WRAP and UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT) around this topic — the UK denim community is ready to move, but only if the three worlds finally agree on the same direction. At Denim Deal, we don't believe the answer is more pressure on any single actor. We believe it's about redesigning the rules of engagement between all three — creating shared accountability, pre-competitive standards, and economic models where circularity isn't the expensive option. Real change doesn't happen inside one world. It happens at the intersection. The question isn't who should move first. London delivered. Even the grey skies and wind above LaundRE's rooftop couldn't touch what was happening inside. Yesterday was Denim Deal Days London — our first edition in the UK. And honestly? It set a bar. What made it work wasn't the venue (though LaundRe is exceptional). It was the quality of conversation. Speakers and participants came prepared to be honest — about the denim industry's real challenges, about what's working in circularity and what isn't, about the distance between regulatory ambition and operational reality. That kind of directness is harder to find than you'd think at industry events. We often talk about collaboration as a value. At Denim Deal, it's an architecture. Our model is pre-competitive by design — brands, mills, innovators, and institutions sharing the infrastructure so that no single actor has to build it alone. Yesterday proved that architecture holds, even in a new geography. The UK is a significant market for denim — and a significant gap in the European circularity conversation. Bringing Denim Deal Days here wasn't symbolic. It's a signal that we're building something with real geographic reach. To the LaundRe team: thank you for the warmth, the space, and the rooftop optimism despite the clouds. To every speaker, partner, and participant who made the journey: this event was yours. As part of its global expansion, the Denim Deal hosted an event at London’s laundry and education hub LaundRE to encourage collaboration with UK brands, to boost signatories and to facilitate new partnerships. Launched in 2020 as the Dutch Denim Deal, the initiative expanded globally in 2024, aiming to grow from its original mission to produce 3 million garments over a three-year period with at least 20% post-consumer recycled (POCR) cotton to 1 billion in 2030. The Deal now includes 65 signatories and partners across the globe. At the event in Canning Town, mills Soorty Textiles BD Limited, BOSSA, DNM DENIM, Advance Denim, Bhaskar Denim, Kipas Textiles and Iskur Denim showed some of their latest fabrics with 20% or more POCR cotton. Other attendees included manufacturer Demco and Marmara Hemp, Mohsin Sajid and Sadia Rafique with ENDRIME LTD, and Coats. The Deal also presented an Innovation Launchpad, with the aim of including novel technologies or start-ups in pilot projects to help drive the industry towards lower impact techniques overall. The first innovators it is supporting are COLOURizd, a yarn-dyeing technology which substantially reduces water usage and eliminates wastewater, and Infinity Blue, a start-up creating a process to extract indigo from fabric and reuse it in production. Another of the initiative's aims is to “bust myths”, Laura Vicaria, programme director of the Denim Deal, tells Inside Denim. “Recycled cotton doesn’t mean more expensive, or lower quality," she said, adding they would love the UK to be the next hub. “We also want to demonstrate there is business value in working in this way. Once the EPR [Extended Producer Responsibility policy] comes into place, that will be a key part of it. Businesses can demonstrate they have used post-consumer cotton and get some money back. Also, with climate change very much here, those that are building raw material roadmaps internally will see the price of virgin cotton will fluctuate, but you don’t have that with post-consumer cotton – it can even be cheaper, depending on where you get it.” The Deal can include brands and retailers of any size, and it does not have to be every line that contains the POCR, added Nicolas Prophte, co-founder. The idea is to work together to create demand which will drive the recycling infrastructure and lower costs. “There is an opportunity in the UK,” he said. “Industry is ready, the fabrics are ready.
