I love building cool things on the cloud and the thing that always remains important to me is "how we build it" in terms of cost, efficiency, performance and sustainability. Just completed the Cloud GreenOps Philosopher course by Greenpixie, and it pushed my thinking beyond fundamentals into something more practical stuff: Sustainability isn’t something we “add” later—it’s something we influence through everyday decisions. A few things that really stayed with me: - GreenOps works when it’s aligned with cost, performance, and business goals—not treated separately. - The “Trojan Horse” idea—framing sustainability differently for each stakeholder—is honestly a game changer. - With AI and cloud, efficiency alone won’t save us—intentional design and engineering will. Selection of LLMs based on use case, calculating cost as well as carbon per token etc are key highlights with respect to AI. Still learning, still exploring—but definitely more conscious now of the impact behind every design and enginneering decision. At February’s GDSA Summit, Mary Creagh CBE MP, Minister for Nature & Circular Economy, highlighted the growing importance of sustainable digital infrastructure, and the business value it delivers. In her remarks, the minister also recognised Greenpixie as an example of UK businesses already helping organisations deliver resilience, efficiency, and innovation through digital sustainability. “Efficient digital systems use less energy, reduce costs, while improving performance and avoiding waste.” It's encouraging to see digital sustainability is central to the UK’s wider industrial strategy.
