About us
Born from innovation, Burberry is a global luxury brand with a rich British heritage. Now celebrating our 170th year, we continue to build on the pioneering spirit that has defined us since 1856. Founded by Thomas Burberry, our brand is underpinned by a passion for the outdoors. Thomas Burberry invented the innovative rain-ready fabric gabardine to protect explorers from the elements. In doing so, he created the foundation for the iconic Burberry trench coat, which remains core to the business even today. Guided by our history of exploration and our shared belief that ‘creativity opens spaces’, our purpose is to unlock the power of imagination to push boundaries and open new possibilities for our people, our customers and our communities. As a values-driven brand, we are committed to creating the next generation of sustainable luxury and believe that diversity, equity and inclusion are essential to fulfilling our purpose. Fostering an inclusive culture where differences are valued and embraced enables us to be more creative, engaged and make a more meaningful contribution to the world around us. In celebration of 170 years of Burberry, our tropical gabardine collection reimagines our iconic outerwear for the summer season – offering lighter, modern interpretations of our signature silhouettes. The collection features timeless styles - including the Kensington, Waterloo and Fitzrovia - alongside the streamlined Camden car coat, presented in a seasonal palette of pale sugar pink and stone beige, or graphite grey for men. Bringing a modern, tailored edge to the collection, the women’s Mayfair trench jacket offers a sharp, cropped silhouette, while the Bloomsbury for men introduces a take on the classic Harrington jacket. Our collaboration with Royal Collection Trust, a department of the Royal Household, honours Burberry’s deep-rooted connection to the outdoors and marks the centenary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth. A preferred style of Queen Elizabeth II, a belted car coat is crafted in Castleford, Yorkshire from lightweight cotton gabardine, woven with contrasting yarns for an iridescent effect. The main material is 100% certified organic cotton, with a 100% certified organic silk lining in a holly green check – a new colourway of the iconic Burberry House Check, inspired by a tartan worn by the Queen. The collaboration launches ahead of the largest-ever exhibition of Queen Elizabeth II’s fashion, opening at The King’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace in April, which will feature Burberry designs worn by the late Queen. We are proud to present a new capsule collection created in collaboration with Royal Collection Trust, a department of the Royal Household, to mark the centenary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth. Comprising four new designs, the capsule features a new colourway of the iconic Burberry House Check, created especially to honour Queen Elizabeth II. In a holly green palette, the check is inspired by a tartan worn by the Queen, the Old Stewart Tartan, which features on the silk lining of a car coat, on a Scottish-woven cashmere scarf, and at the border of a silk twill scarf printed with a hand-painted depiction of Balmoral Castle – the Highland home of the Royal Family. Burberry was worn by Queen Elizabeth throughout her reign and was awarded a Royal Warrant in 1955. Synonymous with British style, the Queen often chose Burberry for outdoor pursuits – reflecting the brand’s commitment to protecting people from unpredictable weather. The new capsule draws inspiration from her iconic wardrobe, expressed through signature outerwear and Scottish-woven cashmere. Celebrating 170 years of Burberry, ‘The Trench, Portraits of an Icon’ campaign highlights our Heritage Collection alongside fresh interpretations of our iconic trench and car coats. The collection draws on Burberry’s legacy of British craftsmanship and rainwear innovation, featuring five distinct silhouettes. Signature Heritage styles – the Kensington, Waterloo, and Chelsea trench coats, plus the Camden car coat – are joined by the new Mayfair trench jacket, defined by a modern, cropped cut. Each Heritage Collection coat and jacket is made in England at our manufacturing site in Castleford, Yorkshire where specialist tailors have produced Burberry rainwear for more than 50 years. The cotton gabardine was developed for a crease-resistant structure, ensuring a neat finish, and is lined with beige House Check. All fabrics, from the shower-resistant outer to the cotton lining, are woven at the Burberry Mill in Keighley, Yorkshire, with the main material and body lining of each coat containing 100% organic cotton. Beyond the Heritage Collection, new designs offer contemporary twists on the archive. The Fitzrovia trench and Ellingham car coat add volume through wider sleeves and fuller skirts, creating bold, belted silhouettes. Discover more about the campaign here: https://lnkd.in/esWg4RVy
