Lucasfilm is officially recasting the Client (the iconic Star Wars character played by legendary actor Werner Herzog in The Mandalorian) in the next project that will be released within Star Wars' MandoVerse. Since The Mandalorian debuted in 2019, the Disney+ series and all of the titles that have stemmed from it have featured many A-list actors, such as Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Giancarlo Esposito, and Werner Herzog. For the most part, many of those actors have continued to portray their characters in future projects, but Herzog is about to be replaced.

Star Wars recently confirmed that Werner Herzog will no longer play the Client in the franchise's MandoVerse, and instead, the role will be taken over by Flula Borg in the next installment of the Mandalorian-related titles. Specifically, this change will occur in the upcoming LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian special that will be released on Disney+ on September 2 (Which luke Skywalker will also be featured in).

Not all heroes wear capes. Some start out as reluctant moisture farmers before becoming the only thing standing between the forces of good and total annihilation. But Jedi Knights, even the great Luke Skywalker, still have time to mingle, especially if they're brushing shoulders with Marvel's pantheon of characters. A Star Wars and Marvel crossover is on the way, one that offers the powers that be a chance to compare iconic figures from both franchises.

Disney announced the five-issue limited comic book series, titled Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles and written by Kevin Smith, as part of the festivities for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope. Smith explained that, as a kid, he always imagined what it would be like if a character like Spider-Man could visit a galaxy far, far away (via StarWars.com). Well, now, as an adult, he's getting to let his imagination run wild.

The pop culture icon isn't going full Patton Oswalt in Parks and Recreation, though. Alongside the announcement, Disney released art that teased some of the team-ups readers can look forward to seeing when the title arrives in 2027. They all work really well, even if it takes a bit of digging to unearth their significance.

Star Wars: Zero Company revealed the official look of Hawks amid uncertainty about the new Star Wars game's fully customizable protagonist. Bit Reactor and Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars: Zero Company allows players to command a small covert unit designed for off-the-books missions while the Clone Wars are happening in the background. The lead character in the covert unit is Hawks, the leader of Zero Company, and the only operator who cannot permanently die because the campaign is built around him. If Hawks dies in a story mission, the operation restarts. 

In the game, Hawks is a customizable protagonist, meaning that players can choose his species, sex, first name, face, voice, clothing, and combat specialization. Embracing this freedom to choose who Hawks is for the player opens up many storytelling opportunities for the game, but the Star Wars Databank, the official online Star Wars encyclopedia, confirms that Hawks is a human male. 

Hawks is depicted as a bearded human male wearing a dark leather coat over a high-collared green shirt. This design was heavily featured in Zero Company's opening cinematic before diving deep into character creation.

Star Wars has announced Temuera Morrison's return as Boba Fett five years after his Disney+ flop. Having previously played Boba's father, Jango Fett, Morrison debuted as the iconic original trilogy bounty hunter in The Mandalorian Season 2 and went on to helm his own spin-off series, The Book of Boba Fett. While the MandoVerse spin-off had many good elements, it didn’t resonate with Star Wars audiences, ranking among the lowest-rated live-action shows in franchise history and being abandoned after just one season on Disney+.

Five years after The Book of Boba Fett failed, Temuera Morrison is officially returning to voice Boba Fett in a new Disney+ special, LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian. The retelling of Din Djarin and Grogu's TV adventures is set for a Wednesday, September 2 release on Disney+, arriving on the same day The Mandalorian & Grogu starts streaming. Morrison's return comes amid a sea of uncertainty about Boba Fett's future after his five-year absence.

LEGO is calling it quits with 10 major LEGO Star Wars sets before this year ends, inspired by Andor, The Clone Wars, the original trilogy, and more. Most collectors will be aware that LEGO doesn't have an ever-expanding range, as the brick manufacturer regularly retires sets to clear warehouse space, manage production limits, and make way for new releases over the years.

Star Wars has officially confirmed a special Force ability shared by both Yoda and Grogu. The origins of the pair's species are shrouded in mystery, and they are among the rarest beings in the galaxy. So far, the only other known member of the species is Yaddle, who made her first appearance in the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Although much isn't known about them, one unusual inbuilt trait they possess has been confirmed.

The Mandalorian and Grogu visual effects supervisor John Knoll revealed this special ability in an interview with Polygon, and it's linked to the mud hut the child builds in the film, Star Wars' first theatrical release in seven years. Fans would recall that in the movie, Din Djarin and his ward have a run-in with the Hutts, who take them captive on Nal Hutta. 

After a series of action-packed events, they manage to escape, but in the course of doing so, Din is poisoned by a dragonsnake bite, which leaves his body paralyzed in the forest. 

Star Wars recently confirmed that Lars Mikkelsen's Thrawn will be receiving a character redesign in Ahsoka Season 2, which will be released on Disney+ on January 20, 2027. Ahsoka Season 1 premiered on Disney+ back in 2023, so fans are more than excited to get to return to the world of Star Wars and catch up with Ahsoka and the Rebels crew when the show finally returns in 2027. Most of the main characters who were in Season 1 are returning for Season 2, including Lars Mikkelsen's Grand Admiral Thrawn, who will be receiving an official redesign.

Lucasfilm officially released the first trailer for Ahsoka Season 2, teasing what fans can expect from the upcoming chapter of the MandoVerse Disney+ series. While many of the show's most notable characters were highlighted and given ample screen time in the footage, it was made clear, based on the shots he was featured in, that Grand Admiral Thrawn went through a full redesign for Season 2.

Star Wars just released a new look at a de-aged Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker during the New Republic era in a new Mandoverse series art. The Mandalorian Season 2 unexpectedly brought back Hamill's character in Episode 8, "The Rescue," where he effortlessly chopped down Moff Gideon's Dark Troopers with his green lightsaber. He later returned in The Book of Boba Fett, serving as Grogu's teacher. These Disney+ appearances marked the first time fans saw the Jedi Master in the New Republic era, a period set years after Return of the Jedi on the Star Wars timeline.

The new de-aged look comes from the covers of Marvel Comics' Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett #6, a seven-issue series adapting the Disney+ show, written by Rodney Barnes with art by Will Sliney. Luke appears on the main edition as well as one of its variant covers. The issue, which arrives on November 25, adapts the sixth episode of the series, "From the Desert Comes a Stranger," where Hamill made his first and only appearance in the show.

Created by sisters Hilly and Hannah Hindi, The Hillywood Show has been a staple of the parody and comedy world since 2006. Their first parody to hit big was a Twilight-focused one, released in 2009 on their YouTube Channel. That video has now reached over 17 million views.

Since then, The Hillywood Show has created countless more parodies, each pulling in massive audiences and fans. Some other projects spoofed by the sisters include The Vampire Diaries, Harry Potter (which might be due for another parody soon, thanks to the upcoming HBO Max series), The Hunger Games, The Suicide Squad, Supernatural, The Lord of the Rings, and more.

Most recently, The Hillywood Show tackled Star Wars, a franchise fresh in everyone's mind thanks to The Mandalorian and Grogu, and also one that has been a highly anticipated target for the parody team.

What Star Wars fans want from the franchise and what Lucasfilm is currently giving them are entirely different, so the powers that be at Lucasfilm and Disney need to understand that something needs to change, and fast. Star Wars is undisputedly one of the biggest and most popular brands of all time. The fanbase is still strong in numbers and is ready to love the galaxy far, far away, but Disney and Lucasfilm don't seem to be on the same page with those fans on what everyone wants to see.

Since the release of The Last Jedi in 2017, Star Wars has felt different, and fans have realized that. Because of how that movie polarized the fanbase, and everyone became rather hostile toward whoever didn't share the same opinion as them, there has seemingly been a disconnect between the fans and Lucasfilm. Essentially, since 2017, it seems as though Disney and Lucasfilm have largely been trying to bring everyone back by just throwing a bunch of nostalgia at everyone and saying, "Hey, remember how much you love this character? Well, here they are! It's great, right?"

This happened a lot in The Mandalorian Season 2, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Rise of Skywalker, and Ahsoka. The Mandalorian Season 2 featured Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Luke Skywalker. That season of that show does deserve a bit of a pass, because those characters were brought in rather organically and actually made sense to be in the story.

Disney+ has unveiled what's coming next for the corner of the Star Wars galaxy built around The Mandalorian, and it's not the show most fans expected. For a while, the assumption was that Ahsoka Season 2 would be the next chapter in the MandoVerse, with some even wondering if it might be the last one. Whether that's still the case remains unclear, but a new MandoVerse project has leapfrogged Ahsoka Season 2 after it was pushed to early 2027. Until this new pick came along, Skeleton Crew held the title of the franchise's newest MandoVerse entry, having started filming back in late 2024.

Drum roll, please...the next MandoVerse project is...The Mandalorian (sort of)!

LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian is an animated special premiering on Disney+ on September 2. Despite the name, this isn't a live-action series, and it isn't some secret substitute for The Mandalorian Season 4 either.

Star Wars is finally poised to deliver the live-action continuation of Star Wars Rebels that fans have craved for years in 2027. Set five years before the original Star Wars film, A New Hope, the animated series follows the Ghost Crew as they fight the Galactic Empire while dealing with personal issues and emotional turmoil that test their tightly-knit family unit. It ran for four seasons from 2014 to 2018, and nine years after that run ended, the story is finally continuing in live action the way fans wanted.

Ahsoka Season 2 will deliver that payoff. Rebels ended with Ahsoka and Sabine Wren setting off to find Ezra Bridger, their comrade who disappeared with Grand Admiral Thrawn. Ahsoka Season 1 picked up the thread and brought back most of the Ghost Crew, turning the series into a live-action sequel of sorts. However, Season 1 was missing one essential component that would have made it a fuller Rebels reunion. 

Rosario Dawson will be back in the world of Star Wars this year after all, following the announcement of a new Disney+ project. Dawson joined the Star Wars universe in The Mandalorian Season 2 as the live-action version of Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's former apprentice and star of The Clone Wars animated series. Dawson then became the lead of her own show in 2023's Ahsoka, for which fans have eagerly been awaiting the second season.

Initially, Ahsoka Season 2 was expected to be released before the end of 2026, but it was pushed back, and the Star Wars series has since been confirmed for a January 2027 release date. However, that doesn't mean fans won't see Dawson portray her iconic Jedi character this year, as the actress has been attached to the new LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian special on Disney+, set to debut on September 2.

The upcoming special is a comedic recreation of The Mandalorian's iconic moments in LEGO form. When looking back at some of The Mandalorian's memorable scenes, one has to be the arrival of Ahsoka, marking the character's live-action debut. A press release for the upcoming special confirms that Dawson is attached to voice Ahsoka in LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian, meaning she will be back as her Jedi character sooner than Ahsoka Season 2's return in January 2027.

Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen expressed his willingness to return in a future live-action Star Wars series that would reunite him with Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi and Natalie Portman's Padmé Amidala. Christensen brought Anakin to life in the Skywalker Saga's prequel trilogy, chronicling the Chosen One's fall to the Dark Side and transformation into Darth Vader. After years away from the franchise, the actor returned to the galaxy far, far away in Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2022 and then in Ahsoka in 2023, where he portrayed both the Force ghost of Anakin and the character during the Clone Wars era in key flashbacks. 

Speaking as a guest in the latest episode of the Hey Jonas Podcast (via Instagram), Hayden Christensen confirmed that he is open to making a live-action The Clone Wars series, pointing out that it would be fun to reunite with his fellow prequel trilogy co-stars Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman:

"I know that Ewan McGregor would love to do more with it. I’ve heard Natalie [Portman] would love to come back. Sam Jackson. So you could get the band back together. Please get the band back together. That would be good fun."

Star Wars has found its new Han Solo, and the actor stepping into Harrison Ford’s orbit finally broke his silence. Ford played the smuggler across multiple films, beginning with the 1977 original, and his depiction became so iconic that he remains one of the most beloved movie stars to emerge from the franchise. Naturally, filling shoes that big is daunting, let alone when the role is Han Solo.

Welsh actor Matthew Rhys will voice the character in Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd, the first-ever Welsh-language dub of Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope. Rhys shared his thoughts about the assignment in a conversation with The New York Times podcast(Via BBC) The Interview, calling the recording experience surreal and admitting how "weird" it was to translate familiar Star Wars terms into Welsh:

"What was weird is obviously, they’d had to translate all these things that we’d grown up with, knowing Star Wars. I was saying in Welsh things like 'pelydr cyrchu'... It's kind of like 'tractor beam.' There were words I’ve never used before, and I was tripping on them."

Lucasfilm confirmed that Carl Weathers' Greef Karga will be recast for its next release. Rocky's Apollo Creed actor Carl Weathers was one of the founding fathers of Disney+'s The Mandalorian, appearing as fan-favorite Greef Karga. The character went on a compelling arc across three seasons, from the shady member of the Bounty Hunters' Guild who was sent after Grogu by Moff Gideon, to an ally to Din Djarin and the High Magistrate of Nevarro. Sadly, before production began on The Mandalorian & Grogu, ending the character's journey with Season 3 of the Disney+ series, in which he gave Mando a residence on Nevarro.

Disney+ announced the cast for LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian special in advance of its streaming premiere on Wednesday, September 2. Tragically, the cast includes the recasting of The Mandalorian star Carl Weathers as Greef Karga, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier actor Carl Lumbly taking over as the High Magistrate of Nevarro for the non-canon release.

Ahsoka Season 2 will include a character wielding more than two lightsabers, essentially signifying that General Grievous, who was the leader of the droid army in Revenge of the Sith, has been replaced. Ahsoka Season 2 has been in the works for quite a while now. Season 1 debuted in August 2023, serving as a continuation of the MandoVerse while telling the next chapter in the story of Ahsoka Tano. Season 2’s development was affected by the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes, but it got back on track and is now set for a January 20, 2027 release.

The first official trailer for Ahsoka Season 2 recently debuted at Disney’s D23 2026 event, teasing what fans can expect from the upcoming installment. Notably, the footage included a shot of a major character wielding four lightsabers, indicating that the upcoming season of the Disney+ show could be officially replacing one of the prequel trilogy’s main villains, General Grievous.

Lucasfilm has confirmed at least four Star Wars projects scheduled for release in 2027. Star Wars has been an important brand under Disney's umbrella, though in recent years its output of live-action and animated series, as well as theatrical releases, has varied. However, in 2027, Star Wars will be back and stronger than ever with at least one new release across all of these formats.

2026 saw Star Wars return to theaters after seven years with The Mandalorian & Grogu, which had mixed results. Meanwhile, animation came back in a big way for Star Wars on Disney+ with the new series, Maul: Shadow Lord, and Star Wars Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi. 

Looking ahead, 2027 is primed to be an even bigger and better year for Lucasfilm film, TV, and animation, with several major Star Wars releases now confirmed following Disney's D23 Expo in 2026.

Star Wars is bringing back Captain Rex in a major 2026 project, underscoring the character's importance to the galaxy far, far away. Star Wars introduced Captain Rex first in animated form in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series as a prominent clone trooper of the 501st Legion who served as second-in-command to Anakin Skywalker and as a close ally of Ahsoka Tano. Following his debut, Rex remained a consistent part of major Star Wars stories, with his evolution continuing into the Clone Wars animated series, Star Wars Rebels, The Bad Batch, Tales of the Jedi, and, most recently, a live-action flashback cameo in Ahsoka Season 1 in 2023. 

Star Wars officially confirmed Captain Rex's return in 2026 in Star Wars: Zero Company via its new final trailer. 

Set to release on August 27, the upcoming turn-based tactics game from Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment takes place during the twilight of the Clone Wars, so it makes sense that Rex will play a part in the game's narrative.
