Another hit in the face for fans of League of Legends: the Arcade Fighter 2XKO will discontinue its development after Riot pulled the rug out from under it after months of troublesome metrics: “It just wasn’t happening enough.” Active development will cease starting on December 2026.
Riot Games Announces The End of The Line for 2XKO

A promise unfulfilled (another one for the count), and League of Legends Fans continue to suffer after years of waiting for 2XKO to rise above the expectations of its troubled developing team.
Metrics showcasing declining numbers, an active player count plummeting, not enough engagement, and diehard fans struggling to find reasons to stick around are some of the reasons quoted by this official statement by Riot Games.
The reality behind those words is even bleaker: a decade of development, more than 100 million dollars invested, a team composed of over 100 people, and a game that launched with no single-player content and failed to satisfy the audience (even those who supported the devs from the earlier stages).
Losing track of all meaningful lore behind the characters and using almost the same budget as many successful fighting games (Street Fighter 6, to say the lest), nor attracting the target audience with the right content (like Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero did).
On December, 2026, all active development on 2XKO will be officially shut down: That is an undeniable fact. No matter the fans’ opinion, or the industry’s context. The world will move on, just as it did with MultiVersus, despite its huge promise.

Surprisingly enough, and after apologizing to their “die-hard fans” and guaranteeing that the game will still be playable (allthough, no new content will be released after December 2026), Riot Games still had time to sell a Microtransaction Skin Bundle of “nearly all 2XKO cosmetic content” for 39.99 – What a bargain!
And to the folks out there expecting a refund: Maybe wait out sitting, because that’s not happening. At all.
