TRIANGLE STRATEGY

TRIANGLE STRATEGY

we need to talk about the artificial difficulty
Look, I grew up on the old Fire Emblem games and Masou Kishin, so I can spot bull**** in SRPGs from a mile away and this game has it, lol. More often than not, you lose a battle because of **** that's out of your control (yeah, I'm talking to you, archers being the only one that seemingly whiffs and does so twice in a row for no damn reason).

Anyway, currently level 15 and at chapter 9 right now. It's just kind of infuriating to kill the leader and the battle goes on, then you die and lose anyway because of trash mobs. Also, I'm playing on normal difficulty, but these random no-named goons are killing me in like 3 hits. Why does that feel like it should be more like hard difficulty...?

I just felt like ranting a little bit, that's all. The game is fun when it wants to be, but oh boy... When it's bad, it's absolute dog****. I'm sick of going into battles where the leader loses, then the rest retreat, but sometimes that's not the case and the battle keeps going. It's just kinda dumb, tbh.

That and the fact that the enemies scale with your level is equally as stupid because it's not like you can grind your way out of it (in fact, grinding would make things WORSE).

Yeah, I very much think the difficulties should have been named easy/normal/hard/very hard.
I haven't been having much trouble (except one stage) on the highest difficulty. The game is designed around not having perma death. They made the damage done higher and sometimes it's best to sacrifice a unit or two. It's odd since it goes against most SRPGs.
How many times does it need to be said. If you're finding a game so hard that it isn't fun, play on an easier difficulty.
If it helps - you keep your exp even if you loose, so just never reload and you can out level any challenge. I managed to win on normal, usually having a good synergy with units working together helps a lot, especially with how free attacks work in this game.
I think I'm on chapter 14 or 15 now. One stage was basically impossible on hard until I just met up all my units in the corner and the enemies one by one came to me. The rest either stood around or moved back and forth. The core combat is good but it is poorly balanced. If you move forward to much the enemies surround and kill easily since they dish out so much damage.

Most Fire Emblem games barely have anything resembling strategy. They generally boil down to "stick your tanky units in a chokepoint and let enemies kill themselves" or "figure out which combination of abilities is broken and abuse it to kill every enemy before they can move."

Triangle Strategy is tough, but it's doable even on the highest difficulty. You have to be willing to sacrifice units sometimes, and the right strategy is not always the obvious one. The fact that enemies scale with your level means you have to actually figure out a working strategy, you can't just overlevel and steamroll through things. There are playthroughs of every stage on hard mode on YouTube if you can't figure them out.
Title of thread is an assumed premise.

If you don't agree that we need to talk about "artificial difficulty" there's nothing to see here.

Er, no they don't. It's the opposite really, you can't over level because EXP gains are tanked so much it'd take eons to level after a point. Enemy levels are completely fixed, though.

Lol, just no, your surely cannot spot bs with such trash games

Never lost a battle yet, how do you know if other people lose battles?

What chapter are you on, and what difficulty are you playing?
FE games are way more guilty of using cheap shots, out of nowhere reinforcements and screwing the player with poor RNG than this game.

Which actually makes me think you have no clue on what you're talking about,
First game I've played in a long time where NORMAL actually provides a decent challenge. Difficulty is tuned very, very well imo.
I also thought there were 1-2 battles that had some very cheap moments (one where you have to defend a certain village in particulare).
Stop torturing yourself and play the game on Very Easy... trust me... it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on Hard... enemies just become damage sponges, that's it... so you have to play the game so cautiously it's actually sickening... Easy or Normal is a good place to be if you want some what of a challenge... but yeah stay the hell away from Hard unless you're maxed out with all the best stuff in the game on NG+

Well, the OP said he's playing on normal.

As for hard, I'm playing on hard and currently in the chapter 10 or 11 story battle, the secret ledger one. It's nowhere near as bad as you make it out to be, so far. I've lost some battles, but a retry and a change of tactics always has done the trick. When I won, it was always with multiple characters left standing.

So yeah, sorry, if you cannot do hard then just don't do hard, but with a little bit of thought, like paying attention to the turn order and using statuses, and some mock battles hard is just normal mode. I doubt it'll be very challenging for anyone used to hard tactical games. Also, every time you fail you will have gained loads of experience until you're at equal level, so unless you're simply trying to brute your way through - which is probably what you're doing if you want to play on very easy - there's practically no way a battle will stay a serious challenge for more than a handful of tries.

As for artificial difficulty, yes there's some. Mostly it's the "protect this unit or lose" objective, which simply never works in any game. Also, enemies always seem to have loads of archers, so using mages seems unnecessarily difficult, because they almost die in one hit.
