Split Up Walkthrough

Split Up is the first level in the chapter The Hollow in Split Fiction. Zoe and Mio are no longer side-by-side and instead are in separate stories, after an intense attempt to destroy the machine holding them captive. At first, it will appear that both players are in separate levels, but after advancing through each players level, jumping, grappling, and dashing, the characters meet up again. Mio appears to be in a sci-fi level, while Zoe is in a fantasy jungle, they can still see eachother though each play has a different appearance.

When both characters see eachother, there are two platforms they must stand on in order to activate the next section.

  • Zoe - Stand on the tree stump
  • Mio - Stand on the cylindrical platform

Once they've been activated, both players can grapple across.

Continue jumping across the platforms until you reach an area with block/mushrooms in a rectangular reccessed area.

  1. Mio - grab the small yellow block and position it at the far right side.
  2. Zoe - Jump on this red mushroom and then dash to reach the platform on the far side.
  3. Zoe - push the tree branch over so that Mio can cross the satellite tower in her world.

Continue through the doorway, accessed by Mio, jump onto the helicopter, and down the slide to the next area. Here you'll have to disable the robot so that the red doorway opens and the waterfall clears.

  1. Mio - Access the console on the right side. This controls the robot in the center of the room. You'll need to bite when Zoe is standing over a wire in the designated location.
  2. Zoe - There are 2 vines on the ground that have orange flowers. You'll need to dash when Mio bites so that you don't get hit. The one with the thorny pit requires careful timing so that you can jump and dash over it while the robot bites the wire.

Continue up the path and spiral staircase, grappling til you reach the next area. There are two platforms that each character needs to step on to activate a staircase.

In this next corridor, Zoe can swim in the water and bring move the platform around for Mio to stand on. Zoe needs to carefully move the platform around so that Mio can safely travers the area withut getting zapped. There is a platform after the first taser that she can walk on to jump over the tasers and activate the switch at the end of the hall.

In the area with the giant gun,

  1. Zoe needs to travel up the ramps to the right and activate the lever in order to fill the pufferfish with water.
  2. Mio can then control the gun to aim above the large pink doorwar to the right, this will cause the fish bucket to spill the water, opening the door for both players.

Continue through the doorway and up the air/water jet, and jump to the upper platform. Both players need to walk to the end of the pathway to open the door and advance to the next level.

A Warm Greeting Walkthrough

A Warm Greeting continues the Split chapter in Split Fiction. This is a chase sequence, where Zoe and Mio can now cross into each other’s stories as events culminate on each side of the screen. Use this to your advantage and cross over the center of the screen to avoid obstacles or attacks that may happen on either side.

Setting the Stage

The level starts with Both Characters pushing open a door in their respective stories and beginning to run forward on a path.

In this level, the left side of the screen takes place in Mio’s story, and the right side of the screen will take place in Zoe’s story. This time though, Mio and Zoe can run across the center of the screen to cross into each other’s universes.

  • Zoe - A cliff will appear on the right side (Zoe’s story) of the screen. Run over to the left side (Mio’s story) to continue on the path.

  • Both Characters - Run to the right side of the screen (Zoe’s story) to avoid the holographic fence on the left side (Mio’s story).

Run for Your Life!

A large projection of Rader will appear in the distance and throw an airplane at Zoe and Mio to trigger a sliding sequence.

  • Mio - Slide to the right side to avoid the tank from running you over

Continue sliding down the track together until you reach the end and begin a skydiving sequence.

  • Mio - Slide to the right side to avoid the helicopter on the left side.

  • Both Characters - Land in a body of water on the right side of the screen. Stay on the right side to continue swimming forward.
    • Eventually, a hovercar will linger on the left side of the screen as a shark approaches Both Characters on the right side.
  • Both Characters - Grappling hook onto the hover car from the right side to cross over to the left side of the screen.

  • Both Characters - Swing back and forth between both worlds while hanging on to the hovercar/dragon as it moves across the screen.
  • Both Characters - Simultaneously let go of the hovercar/dragon. Use the grappling hook in the freezeframe to launch Zoe and Mio onto a pathway.

Both Characters will begin to move forward on hoverboards/broomsticks.

  • Both Characters - A dragon will quickly appear on the right side of the screen and breathe fire across the path. Move to the left side of the screen to dodge it.
    • Immediately after the fire dissipates, avoid the cliff by moving to the right side of the screen.

  • Both Characters - Jump off of the broken bridge on the right side of the screen and steer towards the path on the left side through the air to avoid the flying debris.

Continue forward for a little bit until a large column/tree falls over the path.

  • Both Characters - Jump over the fallen tree that blocks the path.

Continue straight ahead while Rader gloats above you, destroying the path ahead and launching Both Characters into the Face-to-Face level.




Face-to-Face

Face-to-Face Walkthrough

Face To Face is a level in the Split chapter of Split Fiction. This level is a brutal boss fight that appears as you near the end of the game. Evasion will be your friend for this fight and focus on staying alive until your weapons appear in the second half of battle.

The level begins with a short sliding sequence that introduces Zoe and Mio to the shockwaves that Rader will use throughout this fight.

  • Both Characters - Slide down the platform and jump over the shockwaves that Rader sends your way. Steer from left to right to avoid any large pillars.

At the end of the slide, Zoe and Mio will begin to free fall through a tunnel. Three barriers, each in a different shape, will emerge. Aim to fall through the holes in each barrier.

Part 1: The Elements Bend to Me!

Rader will launch columns into the platform from the sky, creating giant holes in the platform.

  • Both Characters - Each column’s landing point is designated by a red circle on the platform. Avoid the columns by running out of the way from the red circles as they fall.

After this sequence, the platform will heal itself, and Rader will bend the platform into a cylindrical shape, rolling it from side to side like a log.

  • Both Characters - Try to stay on top of the rotating cylinder, while avoiding the red cubes that grow out of it.

Part 2: Glitchy Missiles

Next, Rader will begin launching missiles into the platform, causing a shockwave to ripple across it. As Rader does this, shards of the Glitch will begin to appear across the platform.

  • Both Characters - To avoid the shockwaves, jump over them. Start collecting as many Glitch shards as possible. As Zoe and Mio collect the shards, a larger Glitch will begin to form in the center of the platform.

When enough shards are collected, a large singular Glitch forms in the center of the platform.

  • Both Characters - Run to the Glitch and grab onto each side by repeatedly smashing the input key/button shown on the screen to hold on.
    • The red shockwaves won’t hurt you while you do this.

This will anger Rader, and he will launch Zoe and Mio off the platform.

  • Both Characters - Grappling hook to launch yourselves back onto the platform.

Rader will begin launching missiles back into the platform again, just like before.

  • Both Characters - Jump to avoid the shockwaves and return to the Glitch in the center of the platform. Grab onto each side of the Glitch and smash the input key/button shown to hold on.

Part 3: Glitchy Guns

After joining at the Glitch in the center of the platform a second time, Zoe and Mio will now have guns to shoot Rader with.

Rader will begin by pushing out linear shockwaves that cross the stage. These shockwaves will be yellow at first, giving you a split second to jump before they fully turn red and create giant gaps in the platform.

  • Both Characters - Fire your guns at Rader, while avoiding the linear shockwaves he pushes on the platform.
    • Tip: These linear shockwaves follow a pattern, see if you can nail the rhythm of Rader’s strikes and find pockets of safety to fire your guns from.

After taking some damage, Rader will begin to slam down a different shockwave pattern. These shockwaves ripple across the entire platform in an arc.

  • Both Characters - Jump over the shockwaves while still firing your guns at Rader.

Once Rader is at low health, he will slam down pillars one more time. These pillars will hit into the platform and create a jagged and uneven surface with each strike. Additionally, these pillars will create massive holes wherever they land.

  • Both Characters - Avoid the pillars and the resulting holes by steering clear of the yellow areas that appear on the platform. Continue to fire your guns at Rader.

Eventually Rader will fall back, triggering a cutscene and lead you into Worlds Apart.

Worlds Apart Walkthrough

Worlds Apart is a level from the game Split Fiction, part of the Split Chapter. Because the characters are separated, each experiences their own setting, Zoe sees fantasy, Mio sees Sci-Fi.

After seemingly dealing with Rader, the characters are thrown into this level, each still seeing the level as if from their own writing perspective. They don’t see each other but can hear and talk to one another. It seems the only path is forward at this point.

Running Wild

The path starts with one direction, to the right, and the player is shown a top down view. As the characters start moving, Rader will return, attacking platforms and the characters if they should stand in the way.

The viewpoint is important in this level, as the divider between the characters changes position as they move, showing more or less of Mio or Zoe’s level, so they should try to work together to keep what they need in view. Characters should try to keep to the top and bottom of the screen, or move forward and backwards to reveal the other path as needed.

  • Both characters should progress to the right of the level, hopping gaps.
  • Very quickly Rader will appear and destroy platforms.
  • At the first fork/split, Mio should take the lower path to proceed.

  • Zoe should be careful to avoid Rader’s attacks as she moves forward.
  • Once they reach the end of this area, there will be an interactable lever they will both need to activate. They should follow the onscreen prompts to do so.

The Camera shifts to a slightly different perspective as a door opens here for both characters, allowing them to proceed.

Leaps of Faith

With the camera shift, the characters are running upwards now, and the area becomes significantly more hazardous. They should take care to give each other the vision required to make jumps and avoid traps.

  • Moving forward, Mio should enter the arch after climbing the stairs.
  • Zoe should take the next set of stairs to the right.

  • Mio will need to avoid the fire traps by weaving left, then right around the pillars in the room.
  • Zoe needs to move to the midpoint of the bridge then jump upward twice, using the pillars in her world to progress.

  • Given that Zoe has to make some precarious jumps here, it might be best to let her go ahead of Mio, so that she can see where she’s landing.
  • After navigating this area, the characters will reach a right turn, with two switches.
  • Zoe should hold her switch, to open the statue mouths, and Mio should hit her switch once the mouths are open.
  • This will create platforms to allow Zoe to jump across and progress.

  • Mio should proceed on the bridge available to her.
  • Next up, the characters will have to ignore each other’s screens (aside from staying relatively aligned) as what is a hazard for Mio, is a platform for Zoe.

  • Zoe has shells floating past which she can hop onto and use to cross.
  • Mio has bridges, and in the place of the shells, are mines. She should avoid hopping onto these and instead use the bridges to cross.

Once through this area, they’ll each have a switch to press which will move the platform they both stand on forward into a side scrolling perspective.

Unwelcome Climb

The characters will need to ascend a platforming section, striving for the top, which Rader makes an unwelcome return and begins to burn the level under their feet. Mio and Zoe should move fast in order to avoid being disintegrated.

  • In this section, the terrain/platforms for each character are identical, just appear different to each, so they can quickly climb without worrying about changing viewpoints.

  • Mio should stick to the right, and Zoe to the left.
  • They should use their abilities to scale this quickly and interact with the glitch at the top of the area.

Rader appears, and chastises the characters for chasing glitches, before attacking them and sending Mio and Zoe flying into the next level.

Cross Section Walkthrough

Cross Section is a level from the game Split Fiction, part of the Split Chapter. The level fluctuates between Sci-Fi and Fantasy, reflecting the writing of both Zoe and Mio.

After being sent flying by Rader, the characters find themselves in a field area, which rapidly changes to a metal floor and back, showing the instability in their circumstance at this point. The level will start to split further, revealing dangers and destroying the characters if they’re standing in the wrong place.

  • From the beginning, they should stay around the middle of the stage, moving as needed.

  • They should avoid water, and piranhas as they appear, moving to stay on a platform, such as a lily pad.
  • The safe area will shrink to a small square, and they should be ready to follow it around as it moves, jumping to cross to safe spaces when needed.

  • Rader will then appear, and change the level to a purely Sci Fi level, with trucks.
  • The characters should focus here on avoiding the changing areas as they appear, and continue to find safe purchase on the truck platforms.

  • The level will change back to the initial field, before splitting in four and rotating rapidly.
  • Mio and Zoe should again focus on their footing, following the rotation and keeping themselves safe.

This will stop and the screen will be in two halves, the lilly pads and the trucks, before Rader reaches out from under the level and crushes it, sending the characters onto the next stage.

Fight a God Walkthrough

Fight a God is a level from the game Split Fiction, part of the Split Chapter. The level fluctuates between Sci-Fi and Fantasy, reflecting the writing of both Zoe and Mio.

Mio and Zoe go head to head with Rader in his all powerful form. They’ll have to be quick on their feet, and use their agility to outwit him. They start on a platform, surrounded by lava. Rader appears, grabs a conveniently placed giant sword, dunks it in the lava, then proceeds to attack the characters with it. Charming.

Stage 1

Rader attacks the characters with his lava sword. They should focus on avoiding damage here and will be prompted to reform the glitch when it appears. They should run to the fragments that appear and interact with them to do so.

  • Attack 1 - Horizontal Swipe - Rader swings the sword across the stage. Characters should jump to avoid this.

  • Attack 2 - Vertical Smash - Rader smashes the sword downward along the stage. The path will be highlighted on the ground and characters should avoid this. They should also jump when the sword hits the ground, as it will cause waves to roll along the stage, which will be damaging if touched.

Once Mio and Zoe have reconstituted the glitch, they’ll be prompted to activate it together. They should do so as soon as possible, and as a result they’ll be granted a means to fight back against Rader.

Stage 2

Rader welcomes the challenge, and drives the sword point into the stage, causing it to transform into a water themed area. He then produces a trident and starts a new wave of attacks. The characters should again focus on avoiding damage, but attack Rader as often as possible to wear him down.

  • Attack 3 - Summon - Rader drives the trident into the water walls and summons a barrage of Sharks to fly at the characters. They should avoid these by dodging.

  • Attack 4 - Vertical Beams - Beams will move around the stage, causing damage if touched. Mio and Zoe should avoid being near them.

  • Attack 5 - Waves - Rader drives the trident down, causing circular damaging waves with vertical beams to erupt from the point of impact. Characters need to jump to avoid taking hits here.

While avoiding the above, Mio and Zoe should be constantly attacking. Their attacks are ranged so they can deal a good amount of damage to Rader. This will cause the trident to be knocked from his hands eventually, and he will change the level once more.

Stage 3

Now the characters find themselves in space, on a platform of rock, while Rader uses the environment to attack them. With the change of environment comes a reduction in gravity, which Mio and Zoe can use to leap over the largest of Rader’s attacks.

  • Attack 6 - Meteor - Rader grabs a satellite and uses it as a bat, sending meteors at the characters. They can use the low gravity to bound over these.

  • Attack 7 - Gunship - Rader grabs a gunship and uses it to launch rockets at the characters. They should watch the stage for impact points and avoid them before they detonate. Separate gunships will also rain fire down on the stage, Mio and Zoe should avoid taking hits from these by moving out of the way.

Although the attacks are different, the strategy is the same. Avoid taking damage, return fire as much as possible. Once Rader’s health bar is depleted, he will fall out of the sky, then recover himself and punch through the platform the characters are standing on, leading to the next level.

A New Perspective Walkthrough

A New Perspective is a level set in the Split chapter of Split Fiction. This is a short but memorable level that plays around with the concept of perspective in a pretty unique way.

Fourth Dimension

After fighting a god in the previous chapter, Mio gets stuck in a virtual environment while Zoe seems to be back in the real world. The entire level plays as if Zoe is walking on a TV screen while Mio is progressing through a video game running on the screen. The twist is that Zoe can interact with the virtual environment from the outside.

  • Zoe – Stomp on the door to destroy it, giving Mio access to the first room.
  • Mio – Jump on the crate and stay there until Zoe kicks it all the way to the top. Proceed to the second room.
  • Zoe – In the third room, kick the platforms to position them for Mio.
  • Mio – Use the platforms to get across to the other side of the room.

As Zoe is crossing the bridge, Rader suddenly appears and destroys it, causing Zoe to drop to a level below where she’ll have to run against a conveyor belt packed with boxes arranged in various shapes. With the help of Mio, Zoe must try to escape before she gets crushed by a huge metal grinder.

  • Mio – Kick the wooden boxes to destroy them. This will cause the white boxes to fall into position. Be quick about it and try not to destroy any boxes when Zoe is right next to them
  • Zoe – Use the white boxes as platforms and start making your way to the other side of the room. Stay clear of the falling ones to avoid getting crushed.

Rader shows up again after Zoe manages to clear all the boxes and sends the pair into the next and last level of Split Fiction, Final Showdown.

Outside the Box Walkthrough

Outside the Box is a level from the game Split Fiction, part of the Split Chapter. The level fluctuates between Sci-Fi and Fantasy, reflecting the writing of both Zoe and Mio.

As the simulation worsens, Zoe and Mio are separated again, but not entirely. Mio arrives in a black void with only a small screen for company, and when she checks it, she finds Zoe waiting for her, from the perspective the player would usually have.

Zoe has to traverse the side scrolling level, while Mio manipulates the environment by tilting the screen. This can cause platforms to move, climbing ropes and chains to swing, and walls to be broken down. Meanwhile, Rader is still pursuing, focussed on Zoe, so she’ll have to avoid his attacks while making her way through this stage.

  • Starting the level, the characters can acclimate to their roles. Zoe starts in an area with a crate and a wooden platform that are affected by Mio turning the screen. Mio should take this as an opportunity to learn how quickly they can affect the stage.
  • With Mio’s help, Zoe should scale the platforms and move to the right, taking advantage of Mio manipulating the environment.
  • Rader makes his first appearance to destroy a bridge, but Mio can cause the remnants to swing across the gap. She should do so and allow Zoe to climb aboard before helping her move further forward.

  • The stage will transition to a Sci Fi theme, and Mio will be able to move a crane by tilting the screen. Zoe should climb aboard to be carried onward.
  • Zoe should descend first, but Mio should be careful here and time the tilt so that Zoe isn’t incinerated by flames, and doesn’t hit the buzzsaws at the end of the run.
  • Mio should tilt to get her through when the time is right and as soon as she is clear, slow her down.
  • Zoe should start climbing up as soon as she clears the flame, allowing a leap to the next platform.

  • Mio then needs to swing the next crane towards Zoe, to allow her to hop to it. Mio can then swing it to the right.
  • Mio should do the same with the large platform ahead, and keep swinging it right to satisfyingly break through a glass wall into the next area.

  • Next up, Zoe will need to climb onto a Minecart. Mio can then move it by tilting.
  • As soon as the cart starts moving, Rader appears again, using a trick from before and disintegrating the level behind Zoe.
  • Between Zoe and Mio, they’ll need to move at pace, with Mio positioning the cart and Zoe performing some quick platforming to progress.
  • Communication is key and Mio should watch closely to ensure the cart is in the right place for Zoe.
  • Once Zoe leaves the cart for the final time, Mio should immediately tilt the screen left to allow the wheel ahead to move to Zoe’s platform.
  • Zoe should jump to it, and Mio should tilt right to move it forward. Zoe needs to be careful and stay on top of it while it moves.

  • The level will change again and Zoe will face a laser barrier, only for it to close behind her and Rader to appear again. He will start to disintegrate the level again from the floor upward, and Mio will have to tilt to move the lasers.
  • When Mio moves, Zoe should push forward, climbing as she goes and being careful not to accidentally jump into the lasers.

There will be a Glitch at the end of this section that Zoe can finish the level with. Once this is done, the pair move onto the final level.

Final Showdown Walkthrough

Final Showdown is the last level from the game Split Fiction, part of the Split Chapter. The level fluctuates between Sci-Fi and Fantasy, reflecting the writing of both Zoe and Mio.

Following on from the previous level, Zoe and Mio are reunited and come face to face with Rader for the final time. They’ll need to avoid waves of their own creations and finally put a stop to their imprisonment.

This is another boss fight against Rader, and this time he is armed with a whole new suite of attacks.

  • Attack 1 - Parking Attendant - Rader pulls the Parking attendant (from the Parking Garage level) out of a portal and starts to slam it into the platform, dealing damage to anyone in the impact area, and causing massive waves to ripple outward. The characters will take damage if these touch them, so they should jump over them to avoid taking hits. They should also avoid standing in the impact areas, they will show just before Rader hits the platform.

  • Attack 2 - Hydra - Rader manifests a pair of gauntlets (from Royal Palace) and uses them to tear a hole in the platform, then pulls a Hydra head (from The Hydra) out of it. He then uses it to spew fireballs, coating the stage in multiple hazards.

While the Hydra attack is ongoing, Zoe and Mio will have the opportunity to repair a Glitch. They should do so, then activate it to receive some weaponry of their own, and begin returning fire on Rader. They should be shooting at him at all times when not dodging or shooting at another obstacle.

  • Attack 3 - Trolls - Rader produces a portal and shakes it, dropping a multitude of trolls that dash at the Characters. They should use their new weapons to dispose of these, dodging if they are unable to get shots off in time.

  • Attack 4 - Robot Head - Next, Rader pulls a giant robot from another portal and rips its head off. He then places it in the center of the arena and spins it, causing it to shoot a laser and forcing the characters to hop over it. Mio and Zoe should jump the laser and focus fire on the robot head, destroying it.

  • Attack 5 - Steel Rain - While the robot head is causing a distraction, Rader will produce a pair of gunships, and rain missiles down on the characters. Mio and Zoe should avoid these missiles and focus on the head.

  • Attack 6 - Shark Skimmers - Rader pulls a stack of sharks from a portal and starts to skim them across the platform. Characters should dodge or jump these, and continue firing on him. They can destroy the Sharks, but it’s more efficient to dodge.

  • Attack 7 - Return of the Tortoise - Rader pulls open a portal on the platform and the characters see the return of the Tortoise boss (from Treasure Traitor). He’ll roar and beams of light will attack the players, as well as shooting out shells that will bounce around and hurt if touched. Mio and Zoe should focus fire on the tortoise to get rid of it.

Once they have drained Raders health bar he’ll fall, and refusing to stop there, the characters will dive after him. They’ll go into a falling section where they will need to avoid oncoming obstacles, passing through multiple of the worlds they have visited in their adventure.

Rader, Mio and Zoe will land on a single platform, split between two worlds, with Rader in the middle. He will try one last attack to stop Mio and Zoe once and for all, literally tearing the screen in two. The characters should follow the button prompts on screen to fight back, and finish the fight for good. With that, the game ends and the player can watch the final cutscene and credits.
