In 1968, Dr. P.K. Sethi and craftsman Ram Chandra Sharma designed a prosthetic foot in India for people who walk barefoot, squat while working, and move through muddy fields. They used rubber, wood, and aluminum, all locally available and inexpensive. TIME magazine later named it one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century. Decades on, the same design has been used to treat landmine victims in Afghanistan, because a prosthetic built for the hardest conditions turned out to be exactly what was needed in conditions no one had anticipated. When constraints are treated as design inputs rather than problems to work around, the engineering conversation shifts from what is technically possible to what the person at the other end actually needs. The solutions that come out of that conversation tend to be more adaptable and more durable than anyone initially expected. Yumi Clevenger-Lee, our Chief Strategy Officer, explores why engineering that starts from the problem rather than the technology produces results that travel. Across aerospace, automotive, medical devices, and energy, the post-pandemic period marked a clear shift: organizations that had studied Model-Based Systems Engineering for years began committing to it in earnest. Automotive led the way, driven by the rising complexity of electrified and autonomous vehicle architectures. But the signal is now much broader. Industries that rarely move in step are converging on the same methodology. At its full potential, MBSE creates the infrastructure for a shared innovation ecosystem, where OEMs, prime contractors, and suppliers collaborate through a common, machine-readable language. The impact can be significant: product configuration cycles compressed from years to weeks. A retrospective study by Rogers and Mitchell on the US Navy’s SWFTS program shows what this can look like at scale: ➡️ 37% fewer defects during platform testing ➡️ 18% more defect discovery shifted to lower-cost laboratory integration testing The takeaway is clear: delaying MBSE investment does not preserve your position. The practitioner knowledge, process discipline, and maturity built across programs cannot be quickly recovered by buying the same tools later. Nearly half of the experienced engineers who keep refineries running safely are over 45 and approaching retirement. When they go, they take decades of pattern recognition with them. This knowledge is built from years of seeing how damage mechanisms actually show up in real equipment. No amount of hiring fixes that. Anshuman Sehgal, our Chief Engineer for Oil and Gas, writes about what this knowledge gap means at the operational level. Picture a junior engineer evaluating a crude unit heat exchanger operating close to a critical threshold and trying to determine which of 60+ possible damage mechanisms actually apply. The experienced colleague who could identify it in seconds is already tied up with three other assessments and is planning the next turnaround inspection. That gap is exactly what GenAI‑powered Expert‑in‑the‑Loop screening was built to address. The Damage Mechanism Screener developed by Quest Global does not replace expert judgment. It makes expert reasoning available to every engineer who needs it, no matter how many senior engineers are in the building. Every correction a senior engineer makes trains the system for similar future scenarios and captures institutional knowledge before it walks out the door. In Quest Global deployments, assessment completion times drop by 40 to 50 percent. Senior engineers report reclaiming 8 to 10 hours a week for failure investigations and strategic planning. This is capability‑building infrastructure, and the window to build it is now. Read the full article to understand how AI‑powered screening is reshaping asset integrity programs across oil and gas operations. ➡️https://lnkd.in/gjb5BbZk #AssetIntegrity #RBI #OilAndGas #QuestGlobalHorizons #GenAI #IOWs #DamageMechanismScreener

XR devices don’t fail because of missing features, they fail because of poor experience. Traditional consumer-device testing validates components in isolation. But XR failures emerge at the system level through latency, discomfort, instability, and lack of trust in real-world use. To succeed, XR demands a different approach. One which combines system-level validation with real-world testing environments and human-centric experience metrics. In our latest whitepaper, Devasheesh Saxena (Head of Engineering, Hi Tech) explores why XR requires a shift from device testing to experience assurance, and how Quest Global is enabling this shift through a comprehensive V&V framework.
